开云体育I have inherited a FT-857D.I have not messed with any radios for several years now, and I am wondering are there any special considerations with getting this radio powered up and running? Other the plugging in to power, grounding and connecting and tuning the antenna, are there any other connections, filters etc. that I need to be concerned with getting this radio operable? Your advice will be greatly appreciated it! Adoni Sent from mobile device On Jun 23, 2024, at 8:45?PM, Don DeGregori <ddegreg1@...> wrote:

开云体育I had same issue. Bought new one from eBay, fits fine and works but people say the audio is pretty rubbish. Not sure how to get an original Yaesu one which would probably be better.Mike Christie de VK6CB On 24 Jun 2024, at 05:32, Don DeGregori via groups.io <ddegreg1@...> wrote:

开云体育There are over 100 different settings on the 857/897. In my website, I have a table showing the default setting and my settings. It might give you a starting point. ? The first thing I would recommend is to do the ALC adjustment. It sets up your radio for your voice and your mic.? If you ever change your mic out, you will need to run it again. It’s simple and quick. ? Let us know if you have any questions. ? ? 73, ? --Hank KB4MTO / TA5ZC

Read about MH-67A8J rlectret on eham and other groups - you must cut the yellow wire inside the mike. ?Audio is good snd crisp, cuts through unlike the muffled yaesu stock dynamic mike.
They ste Chinese copies, I use on both FT817 and FT857, heaps on ebay for around ?US$20 or less. See what others think but CUT the yellow wire. 73, Rob VK2MZ |

Consider DH8BQA BX-184, microphone that is enhanced replacement for MH-31. It is available as kit PCB replacement (45 EUR) but also is sold as kit that includes microphone housing (55 EUR).

It has better audio (including light compression) and built in audio memory keyer, ideal for long CQ calls especially in portable. I have it for years and it really makes working portable much easier. On 24.6.2024. 02:08, Don DeGregori wrote:

Hi Thierry,
The mike does not have up/down buttons or fast tune button. ?It worked fine on my FT817, but without cutting the yellow wire, my FT857 turned itself off and would not turn on again until I disconnected the mike. To overcome this I had to cut the.yellow wire. The following copied from the net - “尘颈肠谤辞辫丑辞苍别 without the up and down scan buttons, it managed to turn off my radio upon connecting it to my radio, and not until the microphone was disconnected, my radio would not turn back on. |

Hi Thierry, |
开云体育My pleasure. I went from a Kenwood TS-520SE to a Drake TR-4C to the FT-897D. A hybrid to tubed to a computer. I love the 857D/897D but was surprised at the learning curve. I learned all of this from many people, and decided to put the site up to help others hoping they could get in the air quicker. The website is a little long in the tooth. This month I'm going to start a new website to replace it. The information will stay on it and I will add more information on other radios I have. 73, --Hank KB4MTO / TA5ZC hamradio.hanklambert.com On June 24, 2024 11:28:37 AM EDT, "Adoni Poledicha via groups.io" <kg5whc@...> wrote: Hank, |

I use the MH-59A8J for the added buttons and controls. But I do have the following note in my log:
?
On 10M FM above 35 or 40W (and possibly other bands and modes), the transmitter will not stop transmitting for several seconds or longer after the mic button is released. Resolved. This is caused by faulty MH-59 mic design. Problem could not be reproduced with original MH-31 mic. Modified mic by jumpering over ground pin inductor per instructions found googling. This resolved issue. Also made some transmit audio improvements to mic as found on Internet.
|
There were problems with the early versions of the MH-59. I read all of the forums and there were enough reports on how suseptible the mic was to interference that I almost didn't buy it. But I noticed that the reports stopped and the more recent reviews were ffavorable.
?
So I bought the mic for my FT-857D and it was one of the best purchase I have made in ham accessories. The only thing I did was install and configure the mic and rerun the ALC adjustment and immediately I started getting unsolicited audio reports about how good my audio sounded for a mobile station. But the biggest benefits of the mic is being able to pick it up and change bands, frequencies, and tune my ATAS-120A and never take my eyes off the road.?
