Not transmitting

I've been having a odd problem with my radio on and off for the last few years. It seems to happen when it gets cooler, even thought the radio is indoors. It will receive but not transmit. Once I reset my radio and download the channels it will work again. Sometimes for a few minutes sometimes for months. Some people have suggested a bad solder but I don't know.

Has anyone else had this happen?

Mine doesn¡¯t transmit for the first 5 minutes then it works fine?

I have used the 857 in my company truck for years in all kinds? of weather. Works every time. I use heavy wire from the battery to the radio with good connections. What happens when you try to transmit?? Does the radio turn off??

Nothing happens. I can be talking to someone and they will start asking if I'm still on frequency. The radio acts normal but no one hears me. When hooked up to a dummy load it acts like it should work but won't make it to the repeater.

When hooked to your antenna, how high is your swr?
And, if you are on the dummy load, no, it probably wont hit the repeater.

Check the power cord for corrosion anywhere, especially inside the fuse holders.? Remove the fuses and clean each contact surface thoroughly.? Do same with coax connections.? Long term mobile installations need attention in these areas now and then.? ?Regards, Phil / K4PO
