FT-857D no TX for 10 minutes

Hi there,

I have question for you, when I turn on my FT-857D (2014) it won¡¯t transmit for 10 minutes then it will work normally. Did you ever experience something like that? Any idea of what can be causing the issue?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hi Stefano,

That kind of behavior would lead me to think it is a bad solder joint somewhere because of the rig having to "warm up". The question would be where. You might could isolate it to a area using a plastic or non-metallic tool by pressing slightly in various ares of the boards. Visual inspection may help as well, but there are mounted parts on both sides and removing a board would be necessary to examine both sides. SMD connections will develop the same type of cold joints that through hole parts will.

Hi Mitch,

thanks for your reply. The mystery tightens. I called Yaesu tech support today and they suggested to reconnect the original microphone to the radio, instead of my Heil Pro 7 headset, no dice same issue.

If I leave the power supply on my FT-857D works normally from the moment I turn it on.

Thought to share this with you, the group and Hank Lambert that is trying to figure out the problem with us. I'll keep you posted.
