6-Pin DIN Interface has Stopped Working
Chuck Smith (K6CES)
I used to use my KPC3+ with my FT-857D quite a bit.? I also use to use a Signal Link for digital modes.? I have not touched the radio in about a month.
I recently tried to check in via packet for local net.? Connected the KPC3+, tuned to the frequency, changed the mode to 'PKT'.? I could see other nodes on the frequency via the S meter, but the TNC was not responding.? I tried to connect manually and the TNC would not connect to the radio.? I reset both the TNC and the FT-857D to factory defaults and tried again.? Nada. I broke out the Signal Link.? Connected the HF vertical, tuned to 7.074 USB and checked to ensure menu 38 was set to 'USER-U'.? Again, no joy.? I cannot decode or encode FT8, JS8, or PSK-31 no matter the menu 38 selection. Somehow the 6-pin DIN interface has gone dead.?? ?
Just to ensure that the KPC3+ or signal link are good, I connected them to my IC-7100 and everything works flawlessly.Has anyone seen the 6-Pin DIN malfunction or die?? I am at a loss.? Usually the FT-857D just works.? It has never failed me before and thus I have never had to troubleshoot an issue. Thanks, Chuck, K6CES |

I had the 13.8 volt output go dead on the cat port due to the 3amp surface mount fuse blow and my ldg yt-100 tuner stopped working. done a work around by soldering 2 small wires each side of the blown fuse and put a 3amp fuse in line, if it blows again its just a matter of popping the top of, replacing the fuse and away you go. pulling the cat plug out or putting it in with the radio on is what can blow the fuse as well as some say that a?motorized mobile antenna can pull too much and blow it. don't know if that was any help to point you in some sort of fault finding direction.
