Homebrew kranker knob for FT 857 / 817?

 

73s and Happy New Year!

I love the idea of putting a Finger Dimple Kranker Knob for my 857 (and also my 817).?These are discontinued and rare as hen's teeth, and AFAIK there are no modern replacements available.?Having something like that sure would make frequency surfing a lot easier for me.

I'm thinking I could homebrew one and attach it to the stock knob with a small bolt and nut and a custom spinner, or maybe fab a replacement for the knob.?

How easy is it to remove the knob from the head unit on the 857 (or 817)? How do I do that without risking damage to the unit??

Pull the rubber cover off the knob and there is a set screw underneath you loosen to remove the knob.

FYI, I did find this 817 version from a Canadian seller on ebay. I'm going to order it for my 817.
When it arrives, I'll see if I can figure out if it will work with 857 or with 857 plus some modification, before I install on the 817.
