The newly relocated Memphis franchise won its home opener, 19-7, over Chicago. The Pharaohs built a 19-0 lead with a balanced attack. Memphis rushed for 135 yards and passed for 136 en route to the win. Attached is the League File and the PRE files for week 1 of the 1963 season. First, Restore League with the League File and then put the PRE file for your specific team (the one with your team in parenthesis) in the "receive" folder within the program and you'll be ready to play your game. And please, make sure you do Restore League with the attached, DON'T go with what you already have, otherwise changes that were made following the sending of COACH files won't be in place! Decided to start the season, rather than wait longer to hear if Chicago wanted any additional changes to their 3WR 1HB formation or if Iowa wanted someone other than Jeter in the 3rd WR slot of their 3WR 2RB formation. Players can be brought in off the bench if they want someone else in those formations as they're playing, and they can make any changes in a new COACH file following week 2. So, the season's starting. Good luck to everyone in 1963! Tom of Boston, let me know when you're available our Rome NY at Boston game. FAFPFA 1963 - Memphis COACH Issue

In two of the 3 WR formations, you had Morrison, with the most receptions on your team, in the 3rd WR slot and in the 4 WR formations you had Morrison in the 4th WR slot. By rule, he has to be in either the Split End or Flanker slot in 3 WR and 4 WR formations. Receivers were rearranged to conform to the rules. Both Adderly and James qualify to be sole/single Kick Returners. If you use them both to Kick Return, James has to be #1 since he has 30 Kick Returns to Adderly's 20 Kick Returns. Do you want to use 2 Kick Returners or do you want either James or Adderly to be a single Kick Returner? Tony

Sorry to say, got an error that personnel didn't match for the Boston COACH file, not sure why. Restore League with the attached file, then make another COACH file - sorry, I know it can take some time - and then we'll know there can be no actual personnel difference between what you have on your end and what I have on mine. If you read what I wrote about making a COACH file, the Strat Program can not only put players you don't really want in starting slots, at times it can even put players in slots for positions they're not eligible to play - I suspect based on them being able to play the position and being in the slot for the team the season before - and that will cause the error message of personnel not matching too. So, don't just go with where the Strat Program puts players - make sure you check every player in every slot and make sure they're eligible to play at that position, including players in 2nd and 3rd string slots - one player in a 3rd string slot for a position he's not eligible to play this season will result in an error message. You won't be able to put a player in a position they're not eligible to play yourself, because they won't appear as an option to choose. But they can be put there by the program when you open Computer Manager the first time after Restoring League with the current League File, and so must be spotted and removed from the incorrect slot. Indianapolis COACH Issue

In the 4 WR formations, you had Howton, with the 3rd most receptions, in the 4th WR slot and Anderson, with the fewest receptions, in the 3rd WR slot. By rule they have to be reversed, so I switched them. Bill R. Butler qualifies to be a sole/single Kick Returner and Punt Returner. Right now, you have him and Bob Reed as 1st and 2nd Kick and Punt Returners - Reed has to be # 2 in both cases, since he has fewer returns than Butler in both cases and doesn't qualify to be a sole/single returner himself in either case. Is this the way you want it, or do you want Butler as a single returner, either for Kick or Punt or both? Tony

Gambrell had 11 Punt Returns and Pitts 7 Punt Returns, so Gambrell has to be #1, not the reverse, as you had them, so I switched them. Also, Killett had more Kick Returns than Pesonen, so they needed to be switched as your #1 and #2 Kick Returners as well, though not sure if it was you or the program responsible for the way they were listed. Two of the 3 WR and both 4 WR formations were incorrectly filled in, with Retzlaff, with the most receptions on the team, being put in the 3rd or 4th WR slots, and Green, with 0 receptions, and Jencks, with 1 reception, also in the wrong slots. I corrected them. Don't really understand why everyone has such a hard time with this concept, but it happens with most teams season after season. I suppose it must be because most don't bother to read the rule, since I can't image it's that hard to understand. Tony

Currently, it shows Stiger as your #1 Kick Returner and Thomas as your #2 Kick Returner, but I don't know if those were your choices or only what the Strat program put in the slots. That would be legal, but to let you know, if you don't already, both Stiger and Green, with 18 returns each, qualify as single/sole Kick Returners. FAFPFA 1962 - Dallas COACH Issue
In all the 3 WR and 4 WR formations, you had Dowler, 53 catches on the season, in either Split End or Flanker slots and Phillips, 54 catches on the season, in the 3rd WR slot. By rule, Phillips, having the 2nd most, even if only by 1, receptions of all the involved WR, has to be in either Split End of Flanker slot, and Dowler, with 3rd most receptions of the involved WR, has to be in the 3rd WR slot. I switched Phillips and Dowler in all the 3 and 4 WR formations. Tony

FAFPFA 1963 - Do you want Bosseler?

It's not going to be that simple, and the reason I didn't pick him up myself. The process will be that we'll go in draft order and every team in that order - meaning Hillside will be last - will get to declare if they want to drop their last pick in the draft (only) - and then only if that player isn't needed to meet a minimum player requirement. Not bothering to look right now, but if McFarland wasn't Hillside's last pick, he's not who you'll need to drop if none of the 9 teams ahead of Hillside decides to take Bosseler. This, among other reasons, is why I really want everyone to keep track of whether or not they're on track to meet all their requirements DURING the draft. So, Indianapolis, do you want to drop the last player you drafted, assuming that wouldn't leave you short of a minimum player requirements at any position, and pick up Bosseler? Everyone will deal with it as they choose, but personally, I set most of the slots to None and then proceed to put all the players in as I see fit. Quarterbacks The 1st string QB you choose with your first COACH file MUST REMAIN your 1st string QB the entire season - it can't be changed! This is the QB that your team's Fumble Rating will be based on. The QB Fumble Rating rule requires that whoever your 1st string QB is must end the season with at least 1 more Pass Attempts than any of the other QB's on the team - that's compared to each individually, not a total number. So, if you have QB A with a total of 201 Pass Attempts, and QB's B and C, each with 150 Pass Attempts, that conforms to the rule and there would be no penalty. But for any and every QB on your team that isn't the 1st string QB, if they end the season with as many or more Pass Attempts as the 1st string QB, they are lost to Free Agency. Of course, you're allowed to use other QB's as you see fit while playing, as long as they don't end up with more Pass Attempts on the season. But they must always be brought into the game "off the bench". This is true even if your 1st string QB ends up running out of usage and to avoid going over and suffering overusage penalties, you might need to bring a QB into the game from the bench on EVERY play of 1 or more games at the end of the season. Also, I admit this rule, in what should only be rarely occurring circumstance, could be "played" or "gamed". Attached is a new League File with one change that was needed - New York realized before I had a chance to look that he was short one DB, so he dropped Bosseler and I added the first listed generic DB to his roster. But otherwise, all teams had 40 players on the roster and met all position minimum requirements. I believe only New York needs to Restore League with the attached file. Otherwise, everyone is good to go creating their first COACH file of the 1963 season. COACH files are due by midnight, PST, 4/9. Often, it will put better rated players in 2nd or 3rd string slots and worse players in 1st string slots. It also won't necessarily make best use of multi-position players, starting them at a position which they can play, but aren't as good at as another position they play. And once a player is in a another slot, they won't appear in the right-click list of choices for a different 1st string slot and so you might overlook them. Everyone will deal with it as they choose, but personally, I set most of the slots to None and then proceed to put all the players in as I see fit. Quarterbacks The 1st string QB you choose with your first COACH file MUST REMAIN your 1st string QB the entire season - it can't be changed! This is the QB that your team's Fumble Rating will be based on. The QB Fumble Rating rule requires that whoever your 1st string QB is must end the season with at least 1 more Pass Attempts than any of the other QB's on the team - that's compared to each individually, not a total number. So, if you have QB A with a total of 201 Pass Attempts, and QB's B and C, each with 150 Pass Attempts, that conforms to the rule and there would be no penalty. But for any and every QB on your team that isn't the 1st string QB, if they end the season with as many or more Pass Attempts as the 1st string QB, they are lost to Free Agency. Of course, you're allowed to use other QB's as you see fit while playing, as long as they don't end up with more Pass Attempts on the season. But they must always be brought into the game "off the bench". This is true even if your 1st string QB ends up running out of usage and to avoid going over and suffering overusage penalties, you might need to bring a QB into the game from the bench on EVERY play of 1 or more games at the end of the season. Also, I admit this rule, in what should only be rarely occurring circumstance, could be "played" or "gamed". If you happen to have a QB who isn't our best QB but has very few fumbles, and another QB who is actually your best QB card-wise in the present season, but doesn't have any value in the seasons going forward, and also has more fumbles than the other, inferior, QB, you could make the worse QB the 1st string QB, so the QB Fumble Rating will be based on him, and then use the other, better QB, to your heart's content, because even though you'll likely lose him at the end of the season because he'll end up with more Pass Attempts than your 1st string QB, it won't matter to you, because he doesn't have remaining value after the present season. Of course, doing this would mean that you'd have to bring in the better QB "off the bench" for every play the entire season, but if you find yourself in a position to "game" the QB fumble rule in this way and believe doing so is what's best for your team and don't believe you'll mind needing to switch QB's in game on practically every play, you're welcome to do so. The other thing to keep in mind, though, is that the QB fumble rating is based on the team the particular 1st string QB played for that season, not the individual QB. So, even if a particular QB didn
