Mast Raising stuff

Hi,

I've been storing my F-25C after painting for years, and am about to retire.? So It's on.?

My first priority is getting the mast raising system to be less fearsome.? I'm looking for idea's regarding foolproof gin pole/mast base & baby stay configurations.? My previous Farrier F-24 was easy enough for one guy alone.? The 25 Isn't.? Idea's? pics?

Thanks

The key to mast raising is to make sue your baby stays are in-line with the mast base?

When I was rebuilding the lifting system on an F24, I actually stuck a 1/4” rod through all the holes on the various brackets that the mast lifting pivot and the baby stays shared and used that lineup to mark hills and make spacers to get everything at the same height and fore and aft orientation.

I did a video on singlehanded mast raising on our F-82R which is similar to the F-25C:

Gents,

Thanks for all the tips. All helpful. I have lots to do.?

Garry: awesome video. Answers most all imaginable questions (except, do you have close ups of the pinning mast base and its rotating arm with gin pole mating details?). ?Looked like engineering perfection. Oh, and how far back does your rear mast rest pad actually sit to balance that mast so nicely? ?Great stuff start to finish! ?Thanks?

Here are some close-ups (sorry boat’s dirty and covered in pollen)!

Stern roller attachment at transom. It rests on a fitting that inserts into the tube to keep it from moving around which is hard to see with the roller installed.

End of gin pole that slides onto mast rotator on front of mast.

Mast roller sits approximately 6 feet aft of bunk at aft crossbeams.?

Side view of mast roller.

Deck fitting with gap for 1/2” pin.

Mast rotator on front of mast, bracket, and pins. Pins on mast are 3/8”.

Bracket consists of 3 aluminum pieces sandwiched together.

Sandwich held together with screws tapped into aluminum.?

One potential improvement would be to attach the gin pole to the bracket, instead of the mast, which would allow you to fold the gin pole forward and keep it attached to the boat, along with its stays, and pin the mast to the bracket instead of pinning the bracket to the boat when walking the mast aft.?

The current setup requires you to remove the gin pole stays to take the gin pole off and reinstall at launch, so leaving it attached to the boat would be slightly quicker.?

Hope this helps! Don’t hesitate to ask if you have any other questions.
