Our Eagle Island Visit 3
Dear Eagle ISLAND FOLKS. Given the rather fragile state of our health, Pater & Barbara (and John) may have to return home earlier than planned. Thus, we would like to see as many of you as possible before we go. Peter

Offenhartz Viisit 2023 3
Dear Folks, Peter & Barbara, together with son John and friends Martha and Howard Scott, will arrive on Eagle Sunday afternoon, 7/23, staying for a week at the Hill House. [The Scotts, alas, will only be on Island for a few days. Tom Manwell, who has never before missed a summer with us on Eagle, will not be coming, nor will any of the Foos Clan.] I am guessing this will be our last summer on Eagle. Since we will be unloading somewhat past high tide, we will need all the help we can getting ashore. Once that is done, we look forward to your visits!

State of My Health 9
Barbara and I visited my oncologist (Dr. Meghan Shea) on Thursday, who pronounced me “stable.” It is a bit unclear what this means, but at the very least it means I am not getting worse. Furthermore, in some ways I am getting better: I need less oxygen to get around; I can climb stairs without much difficulty; I am gaining weight; the MRI scan of my head shows no brain cancer; I am not coughing up anything noteworthy. With luck I have a few more years left. Peter O. ReplyForward

Your parents
Hi Neighbors, We we recently contacted Kathleen Offenholley to get some updates on Peter and Barbara. See her response below. Abby & Ellen Begin forwarded message: From: Kathleen Offenholley <offenkat@...> Date: September 24, 2021 at 9:31:27 PM EDT To: Abby Ruder <ruderab@...> Subject: Re: Your parents ?Hi Abby, I have good news! We sprung my dad from the care facility last week, and he is home and doing well, with lots of support (home health aids and a visiting nurse and a pt person). He is really doing much better than I could have hoped, and is walking with a walker and generally doing well. I read your emails to him and he really liked hearing them. He has also really appreciated all the cards from Eagle Island people. If you would like to send more notes/cards, I think he would love that. (9 smith street Wellesley MA 02482) Could you forward this to everyone on the Eagle List? I’m sure they would be glad to hear. Thanks so much for checking in!! News about Peter and Barbara Offenhartz 2
Dear friends. Kathleen wrote today to let me know that Peter is ‘doing much better and just got transferred to a long term care facility.” She said “I bet he would love a card if you haven’t sent one already, and if you can get people on Island to send multiple cards, that would be great too.” They are at: 9 Smith Street Wellesley, Mass. 02482 I don’t have an update on Barbara, however Kathleen expressed Peter’s going to a long term care facility is positive. I think Barbara is home with the support and comfort of Kathleen and John for now. Please do send cards to Peter and Barbara if you can. Hearing from long time caring island friends would be a great support to them now. Warmly, Abby

Follow-up on Safety and Emergency Planning Committee 7
My apologies for late response...my internet connection was so slow the past few days..I finally gave up. I'd be happy to work/chair or co-chair this committee. Justine, Bill, thanks for offers to update Emergency Information sheet for Eagle Island. I'm on the island until 8/15; Chip will be here next week. Would there be a group of individuals present on the island this week or next who'd want to meet to establish some specific goals, task assignments and timeframes for completion? I'd be happy to set something up to this end. And as an FYI, Kathy Hoke has mentioned that Greg has purchased a booster for his hotspot and that his connection is solid. Has anyone else done the same with similar results? Cathy

Tree trimming 6
Hi! I’d like to have our oak tree trimmed and plan on contacting Farrell Rupert in Deer Isle. Is anyone else interested in tree trimming, might be more enticing if there is more than 1 place to work on. Best, -Greg

Special Trip, Cove to Eagle
Barbara and I, plus Tom Manwell, have booked a special trip on Tuesday, June 29, at 3:00(high tide). Anyone want to join us and share the cost? Peter O. P.S. That fridge that Bill and June are giving away is a gem! (We have the same). Works well with only three 100 watt solar panels, a deep cycle battery, and a control box I can recommend. It will save you a fortune in propane!

used appliances 2
Hi everyone. We are replacing some appliances on eagle and I am wondering if anyone needs the older models—they are all in good condition and I’d happily deliver to you on island. They are: -GE gas stove- 32 ‘ four burner and oven -Sun Frost 12 cubic refrigerator and freezer—this is a 12 v model that works great with solar. Ice cream compatible! It is a huge step up from gas if you have even a modest solar system. ”most efficient regenerator on earth”. Hopefully we will make the change over in July (larger refrigerator and matching stove). Eagle Island Moorings 2021 4
OK, the 2021 Mooring work is done. See the attached file for details about your mooring. I was present for almost all of this—it was a long day and we got started a day later than expected because of problems with the Barred island float which had lost its mooring and it took a while to fish it out and repair. The Scott brothers were a delight to work with, have great equipment, and they will be coming to the island every year to inspect and repair our moorings along with the other nearby islands. I’ll have to work with them to sort out the bills but they now know where all the moorings are and what they need for next year too. I saw all of the moorings as they were hauled except Jefferies so if you want an eyewitness report let me know.

Moorings
Brad Scott says he will be at Eagle tomorrow, weather permitting. I plan to meet him at 8 am to assist in locating and fixing the moorings you have indicated you want inspected and/or upgraded. Fairley, Howe, Hoke , Haeni, Chesley, Ginn. I have instructions from all of you. I’ll report back when we finish and try to reach you if in doubt. My standard will be: would I put my boat on this mooring? Let me know if you have other ideas, suggestions. Mooring work
All, on my way out of Camden yesterday I stopped and talked to Brad Scott who was working moorings in the harbor. He says he will be over our way on the 7 th of June. He has a couple of days of work between little spruce, bear, scrag and Eagle. What I have on the list: Ginn moorings-3 in front of rocky point- check Hoke Haeni-2x Wood landing-Chesley, Ginn Lighthouse- move and check Howe mooring if Bob has not done There maybe a few other moorings to move and check based on further discussions with Bob. If anyone needs a mooring stone, now is the time to ask. William Ginn wginn207@... +1-207-653-9203 wjginn (Skype) wjginn (Instagram) My new book: Valuing Nature: A Handbook for Impact Investors, Island Press “If the mountain was smooth, you would not be able to climb it.” Begin forwarded message: From: Alison Corning Clarke <corningclarke@...> Date: May 7, 2021 at 6:34:20 AM EDT To: Alison Corning Clarke <corningclarke@...> Subject: DIYC Commodore's Letter Spring 2021 ? Dear Deer Isle Yacht Club Members, May 6, 2021 It is finally looking a bit like Spring here on the Island. That means the mud is receding, the forsythia is out, and it hasn’t snowed in a couple of weeks! OK, so that’s not Spring in many places, but especially this year it feels great. It appears this summer may be closer to a normal season; hopefully, most everyone will have been vaccinated, and we can have wonderful outside gatherings. Which brings me to my first subject: Open your calendar and write in “DIYC Porch Party on Saturday, May 29 from 5-7 PM.” We are going to use this event to welcome our new members, the fishermen from the Fisherman’s Wharf Association and their families. Come say hello to old friends and meet new ones. With regard to a second important issue: The docks will be going back in during the first week in June. Over the winter our remarkable Harbor Committee has continued to work on making our very crowded harbor work as well as it can. They are also preparing to do another round of mooring checks. As you are all aware, we have had a number of mooring tackle failures over the past few years that create unacceptable safety issues. We have worked on a plan to minimize this problem and I will review the new procedures with you after our upcoming Board of Governors meeting on May 18. Another remarkable group of members has tackled the issue of our pier replacement. This group has been in contact with engineers who would do the work and are getting closer to identifying the proper solutions. I will also report back to you about where we stand on this important issue after our Board meeting. There is one other issue which I think you will enjoy. The Deer Isle Yacht Club is now wired for broadband internet access! Yes, we are now in the 21st Century. Again, thanks to the efforts of several of our members, Spectrum (cable provider on the island) is wiring Dunham’s Point Road with broadband. They just recently “turned the corner” past DIYC and are continuing down the road. Bo and I were there when the installer brought in the cable to the club. More on that also with my next communication. I do hope I will see you all this summer. In the meantime, I urge you to follow us on Instagram and watch the website for the upcoming calendar of Club events, which will be posted after the May meeting. Cordially, Eliza Harrison, Commodore Deer Isle Yacht Club

Offenhouse Overboard Discharge 4
In preparation for welling the Brick House, Barbara and I are preparing to apply for an overboard discharge permit. If I read the Maine regulations correctly, it should not be hard to get a permit. As part of the permitting process, we are required all of our abutters by certified mail of our application. Please let me know the legal (snail) mail address of the legal owner of your property. If the property is held by a trust, please supply the name and address of the trustee(s). Many thanks, Peter

moorings and spring trip 3
Team Eagle—June and I are going out to the island tomorrow for a few days. We will wander a bit and report if we see any major problems ahead on any of your properties. I also want to report that Brad Scott our new mooring guy is now thinking it will be late May before he can get his barge over to the island. Let me know if this is a problem for any of you on our mooring list. Otherwise I’ll be in touch closer to the date. Also, I’ve made three new heavy duty 1-1/2 inch rope moorings for those that asked and will install them with the Scott’s when we can. Bill William J. Selling the Brick House 3
Dear Eagle Folks, The realtor recommended to us by Justine & Steven & Tony -- LandVest realty in Camden -- has bowed out. They say they are just too busy to handle another property this summer. The market is just too hot! Can anyone recommend a real estate agent? We'd appreciate any help we can get. And LandVest is promising to provide some referrals, but it's hard to get them to even return our phone calls, Thanks in advance, Peter
