[## 11292 ##] Blaze ALT-7 fails certification
Wow. Thank you so much for the info. That looks like it will do the trick. Happy day. The avionics shop is closed for a couple of weeks, but I will pass this on and I think that will do it. Many thanks. Pat Spencer ------------------------------- On 2025-03-17 1:34 p.m., Adam OConnor wrote: -- Pat Spencer AerobatPat@... 403-561-3268

Financials to Jan 19, 2025.
Hello Everyone. My apologizes for being so quiet lately. I have been dealing with some health issues lately which has tied up my available time. Nothing serious, just getting old I think. Over the last 2 weeks I have been suffering with a flare-up of arthritis in my hips. As a result I have been sleeping a lot and not getting much else done either. Anyway, I have not been out to the hanger for a while so if anyone has been flying, I have not processed any numbers. The only events since last report are of course the Fire. I have put the 2 parachutes (deployed to air them out) in big black bins under the shelving at the hanger. I also threw out 12 gallons of used motor oil that went unnoticed under that shelf. More legacy from previous tenants I am sure. I also want to say thanks to Ann and Ted for their deposits. Also, it is my intention to order the tires, tubes, and maybe other parts tomorrow from Aircraft spruce. The Main tires are Part # 06-07100 ( Goodyear Flight Special II Tire 5.00-5 6 Ply ) . This is the part number that we installed in 2020. The Tailwheel is Part # 06-03600 ( Homebuilders Replacement Tailwheel 6 x 2.125 x 5/8 Balloon/Solid ) The Tubes are Part # 06-00755 I also have printed a new 2025 Annual Checklist and will be dropping that off tomorrow as well. The current Bank balance is $17,397.05. The On-account fund amount is $17,367.15. (This is calculated as the Bank Balance +- all of the individual amounts on account. ) The latest financials are: On Account Joint (reserve) $ 17,367.15 Pat $ 328.84 Howard $ -765.40 Ann $ 538.80 Ted $ - 72.35 The current spreadsheet is attached. As always, if anyone has any questions, I am free and more than willing to go over all of the numbers in detail any time. Have a good day my friends. -- Pat Spencer AerobatPat@... 403-561-3268

Link to video of the hanger fire (2.5 hours!)
Here is link to a YouTube video that I created that shows the whole fire incident from the one camera perspective. The video is not public, so don't worry about liability etc. I just posted it so that it is on record and you guys can see it. The link is: https://youtu.be/tj_Nmw-moE0 Pat Spencer

Reporting an incident: Policy# GWXL007270
I just wanted to touch base regarding an incident that occurred last week at the hanger that we keep our plan in. Our plane is insured through Marsh and this is the email address that I have on the insurance card for opening a claim. Our policy Number is GWXL007270 I am not sure that this is an actual claim, but I wanted to let you know in case it develops into one. The incident is that one of the tenants of the hanger where we keep out plane accidentally started a small fire on Nov 21. The incident and the fire were recorded on a video recorder that I have at the hanger, so we know exactly who did it and can see most of the incident. In any case, our plane is fundamentally OK, as well as our parts and tools, but there is water damage on some of our stuff, plus it appears that there may be some corrosive residue on our plane's propeller and spinner. We are not aware of any other damage at this time. We are not sure yet if there are actual damages beyond our ability to handle ourselves, but I am told that it is best that we let you know and you can perhaps open a file. Our thoughts are that the parachutes (x2) may have sustained water and chemical damage, and also we are worried about potential harm done to the propeller and spinner. These are both polished aluminum and show a bit of surface effect from the fire. Perhaps from the water sprayed or any chemicals that were dispersed. Also, for what it may be worth, I have submitted the video clips to a fire inspector with the county fire department. He was very happy to have that information for his report. -- Pat Spencer Patrick@... 403-561-3268

Financials to Nov 6, 2024
Hello everyone. I am sorry for having been quiet for so long, but everything is operating as per normal. One question for everyone: I was out at the hanger a week or so ago to get the latest hours from the log book, and I noticed 2 things. 1 - there is a bunch of stuff now stored all around the hanger perimeter. Does anyone know who that is? I am curious because, 2 - a bunch of our tools were spread all over the place in a number of locations. Obviously our tools are being used, in addition to the compressor, but they are not very careful about putting them back. I see things like a few tools spread around the shop, and some just left loose around the tool box. I am not impressed and if this is going to happen I am thinking that we either need to have a talk with them or else lock up our stuff. I have not contacted Alex about it but i though I would ask you guys first. Anyway, I have brought the financials up to date as of today. This includes hours calculated from the last report. The hours were last reported to the end of 2023 (Nov 23), and I have not reported hours for 2024 yet, so these hours are year to date for all of 2024. Total Pat Howard Ann Ted 26.8 2.2 1.5 9.8 13.3 $154 $105 $686 $931 $1,876 $154 $105 $686 $931 The only other transaction since the last report was a Customs fee of $32.14 from Fedex for the seat belt clips. Also a deposit from Ted on Oct 3 for $800. That brought him into the positive up until I did the hours for the yer. Thanks Ted. I also withdrew an accumulated reimbursement of 4 months hanger rent ( $1800), which brings the bank balance down, but only affects my amount on account. So, the current Bank balance is $16,853.34. The On-account fund amount is $17,334.34. (This is calculated as the Bank Balance +- all of the individual amounts on account. ) The latest financials are: On Account Joint (reserve) $ 17,334.34 Pat $ 717.94 Howard $ -465.40 Ann $ -161.20 Ted $ -572.35 The current spreadsheet is attached. Seat belt springs and fuel fill. Status update
I received my order for seat belt retainers and have installed springs on 6 of the belt retainers. 4 for pilot and 2 on the passenger lap belt. They work great and were fairly easy to install. I have placed another order for the remaining that are needed (total of 10 required). My initial order was a minimum order as a proof of concept. Also, I printed an updated fuel filler thingy and trial fitted it at the club. I think this one should work. It has a tapered neck for the fuel nozzle. I left it in the turtle deck. Pat Spencer

Financials to July 15
Just an FYI. There are no issues. Just an update. I have brought the financials up to date as of today. This does not include any hours calculated, but there are quite a few large deposits and a couple of expenses that needed to be entered. Thanks to each of you for the deposits in June. Ann - $1500 Ted - $1000 Howard - $2000 Also, that you Ann for paying for both the chutes to be packed ($160), and also a case of oil ($104.20). Note that the chute packing comes as shared expense, but the Oil comes out of the reserve fund. I also withdrew an accumulated 3 months hanger rent, which brings the bank balance down, but only my amount on account. So, the current Bank balance is $17,764.54 The latest financials are: On Account Joint (reserve) $ 15,401.68 Pat $ 839.80 Howard $ 239.61 Ann $ 1,124.80 Ted $ 158.65 The current spreadsheet is attached. Status Update: Seat belt springs.
Ann mentioned in a text that there are springs missing from the seat belts. I thought I would give an update on my research so far. The number stamped on the part is ASE 443030. I can find this part on the web, but not the springs. Al MacDonald says he has not seen these before but will send out some feelers to so if he can find a supplier. Also, we have discussed how this all works and we feel that the springs are not essential for the function of the tension etc. -- Pat Spencer AerobatPat@... 403-561-3268

Financial Update to June 8
Here are the financials up to today (June 8). This does not include any hours flown since the last report. This is a trivial amount but we are airworthy and the flying season has started. Highlights: Ted and I visited the Eagle in Edmonton C-GRWI, and decided it is not for us. We have absorbed the costs of going up, which included a hotel night, food, and gas. I actually made 2 trips and finished assembling the plane on the last trip. Financials: I had the starter repaired (rebuilt?) and was able to get it going for $419.23 in parts. This was deduced from the reserve fund. We also had our annual insurance renewal for $3313.00. This is due from the partners ($828.25/ea) So, the new financials are: On Account Joint (reserve) $ 15,481.40 Pat $ 879.80 Howard $-1,570.40 Ann $ -449.40 Ted $ -651.35 The current spreadsheet is attached. C-GRWI pictures
Just an FYI: Here is an email that I sent to Steve Watson, Ron's mechanic for C-GRWI. I also was asked to leave the panel rack that I built for it. Ron initially asked me to take it back, but then had a change of heart I guess. Pat Spencer -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: C-GRWI pictures Date: Sun, 2 Jun 2024 15:30:04 -0600 From: Pat Spencer <AeroBatPat@...> To: efis@... Hello Steve. Ron wanted me to fill you in on the issue that I told you about on the Gear Leg fairing. I thought that I would provide a few pictures and tell you what I found when I was putting the plane together. Also, thanks again for coming out and getting us going, and for the loan of your Bore Scope and other tools. If you have any questions or need anything from me, just let me know. ------------------------ First, the gear leg fairing. I struggled a bit putting the gear leg fairing on. The little tab that goes on top of the fairing, that covers the Flying Wires, is clearly labeled L and R, so I am confident that I got them on the correct sides. In addition, I did try switching them just to see if that solved the problem, but it did not. On our plane (C-GMBP) these have always been a challenge and we eventually stopped using the grommets and also widened the holes to the point that we do not have the middle screw. On our plane we struggle with the side panels cracking and eventually made a new set of gear leg panels that do not press so tightly on the panel. We also have used thick rubber washers on the mounting brackets to allow them o move a bit when the gear leg flexes. The only thing that I may have gotten wrong was the rear mounting bracket. One of them was a secondary build, and was unpainted aluminum rather than the original spring steel. In any case, the tab on the left gear leg just does not line up right. I did not take pictures of it before we took it apart, but I wish that I had. The issue is that if I line up the holes for the screws, then the tab is skewed slightly and has a sharp point pressing out at the side panel. On the other hand, and the way that I left it, is if I line up the tab and only insert the middle screw, then the holes don't line up for the other 2 screws. ----------------------- The right Gear Leg Fairing is much better, but I also think that it is too tight against the side panel. I found it very hard to put the cover in place and get it nested in the grommet groves etc. ----------------------- The other things that I did, and which should go into the log, is that I replaced the 2 linear bearings on the rear canopy hinge, and I also adjusted the rod that ties it to the front assembly. It was out of wack and this is probably what caused the bearings to fail. I left the old bearings in the table for you to look at. ----------------------- And lastly, I though you would be interested in how I managed to put the Oil Cooler on by myself. I think that the system worked well. Basically, I used a couple of ratchet straps to hold the lower cowling a bit low so that I could align the bolts. Once I got the bolts in, then I raised it up. I also used a scrap to put the cooler forward while I was pushing the bolts in. I could slide out this strap before I tightened the bolts. -- Pat Spencer AerobatPat@... 403-561-3268

C-GRWI Inspection Points
4
I have posted my pictures of the plane on my website. https://patspencer.ca/CGRWI/ Of special note are pictures 5, 7, and 10. Also 29. These show the condition of the fabric. 4 and 5 are of a small rock chip that was covered up by a 2" x 2" tape. The dope has completely come off with the tape. (The tape had been removed prior to us being there). In addition, Photo 7 and 8 are of a similar situation with the Aileron. It is a much larger area, and also you can see that the dope is basically just falling away from the fabric. Photo 10 and a few other show that you can see that there is no AU Oxide or sunblock. You can see light through the fabric. Normally this is bad and the fabric just rots in sunlight. Ron said that he thought that Endura provided sun block. I do not think this is the case. Photo 29 shows that the paint job in the fuselage its the same. You can see the light through the fabric in the tail. Insurance Renewal Forms
3
Sorry guys. I actually forgot about sending the Marsh insurance renewal forms. The original email was received on April 21, and the insurance coverage expires on June 6. We still have "lots" of time, but I would appreciate if you could get your numbers back to me soon. Thanks. I have been in conversation with them about the new plane C-GRWI, and basically they said that we could add the new plane to the existing policy, and then drop the ole plane once that is appropriate. They would need to see the applications in order to give us any numbers. He wanted to me to contact him for a chat once we have made a decision to purchase it. He can give us more detail at that time. My approach for now is to just renew with C-GMBP and not worry about the new plane until we actually purchase it. We can deal with that when the time comes. Anyway, here are printouts of the renewal forms. I have not read them yet but will be doing mine today. If there are any questions or confusion, please feel free to call me. Thanks guys. -- Pat Spencer AerobatPat@... 403-561-3268

Starter Update:
I just wanted to share an update on the starter. I am quite happy. I am taking the advice of my good friend Doug Howard who knows a LOT about electric motors. After having the starter evaluated at James Electrical Motors, and being told that the armature was toast, as well as the brushes, we had a look at it and determined that the Armature is actually fine. It is just covered in the gunky mess from the brushes leave (plus lots of oil). The sludge is conductive due to the debris from the brushes, so that is probably why it has been giving us poor starts for a while. Anyway, to make a long story short, we were able to clean up the armature, clean out a bunch of gunk from the housing and brush area, and actually do a live test of it as is. It works but need new brushes. I was able to find a source for the 2 part numbers that we need and they are on their way. Should be here later this week. Once they arrive, it will be a simple task to get Doug to do his thing and get it back in action. I believe that the starter has been gradually getting poorer at it's job for a while (years) and the symptoms are the same as a low battery capacity. Sound familiar? We have been replacing the battery every couple of years thinking that "boy, they don't last very long do they". I have kept the last couple and so they may actually be serviceable after this. That would be a nice bonus. -- Pat Spencer AerobatPat@... 403-561-3268
