Hello, friends! This is my first message as the owner/moderator of our group and it has been sent as a special message, meaning that it will be sent to all members whether or not they have their email service on here to send only daily or after a dozen emails pile up, or even after members decide to go online here and simply check their messages rather than have them sent automatically. If you have not done so, please go online to our group and update your membership information with your name and any other information you wish to enter. The majority of members do not have their names, but only their email addresses and sometimes it's tough to figure out who is who here. Thanks to all! Member database (Private, not published) data updates 7
Hello, 1656'ers! Now that the deluge of junk emails has trickled to a manageable stream I am sending something important. David Sorrells has done an outstanding job of designing a member data sheet that we can use to modernize and update our membership roster. Please take two or three minutes to update your sheet (even if we already have information from you!) and either hand it in at our regular Chapter 1656 meeting or copy/scan and email it to us, or even take a photo with your phone and send it so that we can ensure that we have every member's information. Our current roster has some members that are no longer with the chapter, some members who have not renewed, others that have moved, and other members who have since joined and not entered on the roster. David has prepared two formats; a Word file and a PDF file for those who do not have Word software available. Again, please take two or three minutes to fill out either form and bring it to our meeting at the 07F FBO at 0900 January 14th, or return it your preferred/convenient way: Email: [email protected] Fax: 903.212.3795 Thanks! Locked Lancaster Fly-Out for upcoming meeting Saturday 1/14? 3
Hello, fellow aviators! In looking at the meeting minutes from December 10th, we had set our January 14th meeting to be a Fly-Out activity to Lancaster Airport (LNC). Is this still the plan? One of the wonderful features of this 开云体育 system is that we can have discussions such as this one. Simply respond and leave comments; we will all see and participate in the discussion if we wish. Questions about the 开云体育 system itself? Just put them right on your response so we can all see them and add comments as needed. If you need to contact me directly, see below. Thanks for participating using our new system. Jim Quinn (Longview) Chapter Secretary 903.746.0342

Wood County YE day invitation
Hi, chapter members! Jimmy Chadwick from the Wood County chapter has sent this message asking for volunteers for their YE Day on May 13th. Of course we are expecting our own YE Day on the following Saturday however I wanted to help our friends out there by publicizing their need for volunteers as they will do for us. I have accepted his request to be the event's Air Safety Officer. Here is his message text: Hi Jim, we have scheduled another Young Eagles event for May 13th 2023 at Wood County Airport. It’s still a ways out but I’m hoping to get an early commitment from my Safety Team Volunteers. You served as Air Safety Officer last year. Would you be willing and able to perform the same duties this year? We have our own vests this year! J Allot has changed at KJDD, the ramp is twice as big, should give us plenty of room for aircraft movement. We are planning to fly 150 kids this Rally to help commemorate the City of Mineola’s 150th year! So hoping to have 15 to 20 pilots (hoping). Let me know if you are interested! Airplanes and Coffee Facebook Group hosting event in Gainesville 2/4/23 3
Fellow aviators, During our meeting Saturday the 14th Stephen Shore mentioned the Facebook group Airplanes and Coffee and encouraged everyone to take a look at the group's page and noted that the group was going to have one of their gatherings at the Gainesville airport (KGLE) on February 4th. I've taken the leap and asked to join the group and it looks like a great page to visit. Their event will be from 0830-1230 and it is free and open to the public. Aircraft incident at Gladewater Municipal Airport 2
Fellow aviators, I've received a report that an aircraft incident happened about 1:30 today at the Gladewater Municipal Airport. A chapter member was involved along with another adult and two children but apparently there were only minor injuries. Here is what's been published so far: GLADEWATER, Texas (KLTV) - A private, single-engine plane has crashed near Gladewater Municipal Airport, leaving four passengers with minor injuries, according to Gregg County Sheriff Maxey Cerliano. The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. Sunday when an aircraft made a water landing in a swampy area off of Carter Road, east of the airport. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/private-plane-crashes-near-gladewater-airport/ar-AA178ziy#:~:text=GLADEWATER%2C%20Texas%20%28KLTV%29%20-%20A%20private%2C%20single-engine%20plane,off%20of%20Carter%20Road%2C%20east%20of%20the%20airport. Perhaps we'll hear more about this situation soon... Jim Quinn Chapter Secretary

Weekly Newsletter 2
Good evening, everyone! I apologize for the delay in getting this newsletter out. I told you guys that I would be doing this, and I meant it! As many of you know, we are currently in the throes of adjusting to life as parents of two kids. Mom (Sarah) and baby Addison are doing fantastic, and she is actually sleeping for 5-6 hours at a time already. So again, I apologize for the tardiness of this letter, but I am claiming a pass. This is my first time really putting the groups.io platform to use, and I really like it. Thank you again to Jim for suggesting this and taking charge of the implementation--what a great tool! As many of you have already heard via Jim's note earlier this week or by other means, our chapter member and master chef, Danny Downing, was involved in an accident on Sunday afternoon in their Bonanza just south of 07F. Everyone walked away with only minor injuries, and for that, we thank God. Danny obviously did a great job of handling an emergency situation, and I know without a doubt that significant training and practice went into that response. I won't get into the details of what happened in this newsletter because there are many rumors flying around, and I don't have any idea what is true and what is false. I hope that Danny will eventually give us all an account of what happened and how he dealt with it, as well as lessons learned. The chamber sent an email earlier today asking for a meeting with some of the chapter leadership to discuss airport appreciation day, which will be on May 20. We don't know yet when the meeting will be, but I'm sure it will be soon. As such, let's plan to discuss during Saturday's meeting how we would like that day to look and firm up some plans. Finally, we will be flying out to Lancaster after the meeting. I think I might accidentally get to make the trek, but it will be a game time decision. If you're planning to go, please 'reply all' to this thread so we can plan to have enough seats for everyone. I am so excited about what we are building in our chapter, and I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday! All the best, Ronnie

This Saturday: Monthly Chapter meeting at 0900, LNC fly-out afterward 4
Fellow aviators, This is not to simply fill your email inboxes, but rather a memory bump to promote tomorrow's chapter activities. We're doing these to boost attendance and it seems to be working; many of us get busy with family, etc. and miss the second Saturday events. See you tomorrow! Lancaster Fly-Out cancelled due to weather; Meeting agenda includes Safety Briefing
Fellow members, Our Chapter President Ronnie Godfrey requested that I send this special message to inform all members that the LNC fly-out is officially cancelled due to forecast low ceilings and mist. Of course it wasn't unexpected; the weather was iffy at best... I'm sure it will be a destination at some point in the near future. We certainly will see Nils "Doc" Erickson's safety presentation that he has volunteered to conduct during the meeting, so everyone is encouraged to attend in spite of the fly-out being cancelled. Knowing Doc, I'm sure it will be well-worth attending! David Sorrells, our Chapter Treasurer, has asked me to take any dues payments; he will get receipts to those who pay our $25 chapter dues for 2023 at Saturday's meeting ASAP. He is not able to attend personally. At Ronnie's suggestion I am attaching the minutes from last month's meeting. Sorry for the cancellation, but I'm sure we all understand the necessity. I look forward to our gathering in the morning at 0900, so I encourage everyone to attend. Jim Quinn Chapter Secretary 903.746.0342

Roundtable audio following presentation 2
To anyone interested who attended (and to anyone just curious), I've attached the audio of the 'roundtable discussion' accompanying the presentation about class D comms. Our own 'roundtable' was great, thanks for those who participated! I look forward to bringing more of these to future meetings. I'm a little slow getting this posted - apologize because I got sick with 'the crud' after the meeting. Hope no one got it from me! Doc E

EAA Young Eagles webinar link attached
Fellow aviators, I attended an initial planning meeting of EAA 1475's Young Eagles event volunteers who will be sponsoring a YE Rally the Saturday prior to our own May 20th event. Jimmy Chadwick, the fellow in charge, has sent those of us who are involved as team members a webinar from the EAA that I found to be quite educational to watch so I thought I'd forward the link. EAA has made incredible advances to the program that are shown in the webinar. Such highlights are the latest requirements/practices to sponsor an event as well as screen shots that show the latest digital processes for the program that can make our event a little more streamlined where we might use the system, including pre-registration procedures, advance waiver provisions (enabling parents/legal guardians to sign waivers electronically that can be accepted by us even without them being physically present at the registration desk). Also, there is information confirming the staffing requirements in the areas of child protection, volunteer requirements and the new Risk Management course. Here is the link: https://www.eaa.org/videos/webinars/eaa-programs/6316358984112 The entire webinar is about 1.5 hours long, but the last half hour is discussion of questions submitted from the viewers. This webinar was presented live in November and can answer questions about all facets of the YE program, with the new digital procedures being featured. You may have some interest... Thanks to all! Chapter Officer's Boot Camp
Fellow aviators: Pardon the late message; I've been tied up all afternoon. Please see the forwarded message below from Jimmy Chadwick about he EAA Chapter Officers' Boot Camp in Waco. He has an open seat and would love to have someone come along... Jim Quinn Chapter Secretary 903.746.0342 ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Jimmy Chadwick <james@...> Date: Fri, Feb 24, 2023 at 11:07 AM Subject: Chapter Officer's Boot Camp To: Jim Quinn <jimquinndallas@...> Hey Jim, I’m driving down to Waco tomorrow for the Boot Camp. I just had my President cancel on me. If you or anyone in your Chapter is attending, or would like to attend, I have a couple of seats open in my truck if they’d like to ride. Registration is still open, so no problem with someone just deciding to go. I live right off Interstate 20 near Van so easy access to my house. I’m planning on leaving at 5:00 AM sharp.
