Young Eagles status as of Friday evening....

Fellow aviators,

As of this afternoon it was decided to delay our activities by one hour, so here is the revised schedule:

0800 show-up vs previously 0700
0845 Pilot/groundcrew briefing vs 0745
0930 Flights vs 0830

Seeing the aviation forecasts are disappointing, however we know how things can change within hours.? I'm not the one to make the final yes/no decision but this is how things stand at this very late hour,

Thanks!

Friday setup for Young Eagles event at 1600

Fellow aviators,

A reminder for today's (Friday) setup activity at Gladewater Muni (07F):

Those who are planning and able to participate in our setup activities at 1600 today, please join us at the FBO.

Ronnie Godfrey, our Chapter 1656 President and Young Eagles coordinator is asking for participants to bring 10' tarps, a ladder, and safety vests.

The event schedule for Saturday morning is:

0700 Volunteer meetup at the FBO
0745 Pilots/participants (everyone) safety briefing
0830 Flight activities begin
1130-? End of flying activities

We can never have too many volunteers, both pilots and ground participants, so please join us if you're able.? If you have safety vests, 10' tarps or ladders, we'd appreciate your help with those items.

Thanks to all!

Is it too late for me to call? Both of the pilots were supposed to fly last week at Minneola.

Pilots:?

Please don't forget that you have to be EAA Members in good standing and have completed EAA's background check within the last three year prior to flying kids.? Check your credentials to make sure you're still covered and that you're not expired.

Hi!?
I¡¯m from the Mineola group, and I¡¯m available to help with Saturday¡¯s event. I also have pilots that are willing to help. Is it too late for them to join in? Both are flying 172¡¯s and are CFI¡¯s at SkyPark at KGGG. They were both signed up for Mineola but that event got canceled.
Thanks!

I received your email via Jimmy Chadwick.? I have volunteered for ground support for this event through Norm Rathje but have so far been unable to actually sign up via the EAA YE website.? The event is not listed when I log in.?

?

I am still interested in volunteering for ground support so please let me know what I need to do to get on the list.

I am a member of the Terrell Hangar Club and I would like to send your request to the members of our club.? Is this the correct way for them to reach you if any of them are interested in volunteering?

Fellow aviators,

We're requesting assistance from our Chapter 1656 members and all other interested persons who would be available to Friday afternoon, 5/19, at 4:00 p.m. to help with various setup tasks in preparation for our Young Eagles event on Saturday 5/20.? This event has caught the eye of a huge number of young people in the area, and during our regular chapter meeting this morning Ronnie Godfrey (our chapter president and YE coordinator) advised us that within the first 3-4 hour registration about 160 kids registered to fly!? He had to close the registration due to the immediate and overwhelming response, so we're going to be extremely busy Saturday!

In addition to the setup Friday, we will have a show-up time for 0700 with a pilot/ground team joint briefing at 0745, and a target flight start time of 0830.

We ask that if you can help out Friday afternoon and/or Saturday, please give us a hand!? You'll be fed, provided safety vests (to be returned), and will have a fabulous time!? Yes, it can be quite busy and perhaps a bit tiring, but if you've never participated it is something you'll enjoy!

Thanks for any assistance you and friends can offer.? Please reply to this email blast if you are able to help so we organizers can each get a head count for Friday and/or Saturday.

Kind regards,

Hey guys! Please copy and paste the text below to your socials. If you have a copule pics of you and some kiddos flying (and permission use them!) please include those in your post!

Are your kids interested in flying? We are offering?FREE airplane rides?to kids ages 8-17. This event is being held in conjunction with the City of Gladewater's Airport Appreciation Day, so there will be lots of other fun activities even for those not participating in Young Eagle Flights!
Where??Gladewater Municipal Airport
When??Saturday, May 20, 2023 08:30-11:30 AM
What is it??This event is sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and it is designed to allow kids to experience the miracle of flight from the cockpit of a real airplane! All of the participating aircraft and pilots are FAA certified and maintained according to the regulations set forth by the Federal Aviation Regulations. The pilots are all volunteers who donate their time and aircraft to this cause.
Your child will experience a 15-20 minute flight on Young Eagle Day. They will also receive a certificate and their very own log book to keep a record of their young eagle flights. The logbook can even be used for REAL flight training! There will be opportunities for photos before and after the flight and the pilot will sign the kiddo's log book at the end of the flight!

Friends,

Those of you who know me probably remember that I have a drone business, but I'm not your average drone guy and I don't usually refer to myself as a "drone pilot", but rather a "drone operator."

With my business, I'm often approached onsite at different locations by people who are interested in what I'm doing, and I'm appalled by those who approach me and start talking about their own drones and how/where they fly, etc. and ask about my experiences, taskings, and that sort of thing.? I'm stunned by the number of clueless individuals who are stunned that, for the flying they describe, they need to be licensed by the FAA to operate their drone equipment.? I take the time to express my opinions in plain English when I realize what they're doing is dangerous and/or illegal.? Since I've had my PPL since 5/14/81 and have the FAA Part 107 drone operators license I like to stay current with the rules and operations of drone activity and I also have the added responsibility and respect the fact that if I get a violation, it not only will show up on the drone side of things but could very, very easily affect my PPL privileges as well.? Airspace violations are airspace violations, and there is no way I want to have any violations on my records, especially for being stupid with the drone.? I am definitely heavily insured for my drone activities and for liability only, my premiums are more than $500/year so I don't want any increases...

Having said all that, I did see a video that I want to pass on to everyone that concerns an aerial collision between a Canadian police drone and a C-172.? Both were flown legally? in the same airspace, however the police drone weighing 16 pounds (my own is less than two pounds), did some incredible damage to the Cessna.? I say the drone was being flown legally, but technically some officers were not properly briefed in their assignments to provide extra eyes for the drone operator since they were in the proximity of a small GA airport.? Some of you in our chapter have described drone encounters that were dumbfounding and downright scary, so I thought this safety video would be of interest, and this sort of incident is why I almost always have my radios in the car and my hand-held scanning the local freqs for any aviation activity nearby, especially helo ops.

I hope you will take five minutes or so and see just how hard it is to see drones when you know they may be nearby, and realize how much damage they can do to aircraft.
