Hey Jim, I’m driving down to Waco tomorrow for the Boot Camp. I just had my President cancel on me. If you or anyone in your Chapter is attending, or would like to attend, I have a couple of seats open in my truck if they’d like to ride.

Registration is still open, so no problem with someone just deciding to go.

I live right off Interstate 20 near Van so easy access to my house. I’m planning on leaving at 5:00 AM sharp. Just let me know.

EAA Young Eagles webinar link attached

Fellow aviators,

I attended an initial planning meeting of EAA 1475's Young Eagles event volunteers who will be sponsoring a YE Rally the Saturday prior to our own May 20th event.? Jimmy Chadwick, the fellow in charge, has sent those of us who are involved as team members a webinar from the EAA that I found to be quite educational to watch so I thought I'd forward the link.

EAA has made incredible advances to the program that are shown in the webinar.? Such highlights are the latest requirements/practices to sponsor an event as well as screen shots that show the latest digital processes for the program that can make our event a little more streamlined where we might use the system, including pre-registration procedures, advance waiver provisions (enabling parents/legal guardians to sign waivers electronically that can be accepted by us even without them being physically present at the registration desk).? Also, there is information confirming the staffing requirements in the areas of child protection, volunteer requirements and the new Risk Management course.

Here is the link:

The entire webinar is about 1.5 hours long, but the last half hour is discussion of questions submitted from the viewers.? This webinar was presented live in November and can answer questions about all facets of the YE program, with? the new digital procedures being featured.

You may have some interest...

Thanks to all!

To anyone interested who attended (and to anyone just curious), I've attached the audio of the 'roundtable discussion' accompanying the presentation about class D comms. ?Our own 'roundtable' was great, thanks for those who participated! ?I look forward to bringing more of these to future meetings. ?I'm a little slow getting this posted - apologize because I got sick with 'the crud' after the meeting. ?Hope no one got it from me!

Lancaster Fly-Out cancelled due to weather; Meeting agenda includes Safety Briefing

Fellow members,

Our Chapter President Ronnie Godfrey requested that I send this special message to inform all members that the LNC fly-out is officially cancelled due to forecast low ceilings and mist.? Of course it wasn't unexpected; the weather was iffy at best...? I'm sure it will be a destination at some point in the near future.

We certainly will see Nils "Doc" Erickson's safety presentation that he has volunteered to conduct during the meeting, so everyone is encouraged to attend in spite of the fly-out being cancelled.? Knowing Doc, I'm sure it will be well-worth attending!

David Sorrells, our Chapter Treasurer, has asked me to take any dues payments;? he will get receipts to those who pay our $25 chapter dues for 2023 at Saturday's meeting ASAP.? He is not able to attend personally.

At Ronnie's suggestion I am attaching the minutes from last month's meeting.

Sorry for the cancellation, but I'm sure we all understand the necessity.

I look forward to our gathering in the morning at 0900, so I encourage everyone to attend.?

Re: This Saturday: Monthly Chapter meeting at 0900, LNC fly-out afterward

Friends,

My apologies!

Nils "Doc" Erickson kindly offered to present a safety briefing this month after the suggestion was made by Chapter President Ronnie Godfrey at our January meeting to emphasize safety in some manner on a regular basis.

?Good evening, everyone!?

I apologize for the delay in getting this newsletter out. I told you guys that I would be doing this, and I meant it!

As many of you know, we are currently in the throes of adjusting to life as parents of two kids. Mom (Sarah) and baby Addison are doing fantastic, and she is actually sleeping for 5-6 hours at a time already. So again, I apologize for the tardiness of this letter, but I am claiming a pass.?

This is my first time really putting the groups.io platform to use, and I really like it. Thank you again to Jim for suggesting this and taking charge of the implementation--what a great tool!

As many of you have already heard via Jim's note earlier this week or by other means, our chapter member and master chef, Danny Downing, was involved in an accident on Sunday afternoon in their Bonanza just south of 07F. Everyone walked away with only minor injuries, and for that, we thank God. Danny obviously did a great job of handling an emergency situation, and I know without a doubt that significant training and practice went into that response. I won't get into the details of what happened in this newsletter because there are many rumors flying around, and I don't have any idea what is true and what is false. I hope that Danny will eventually give us all an account of what happened and how he dealt with it, as well as lessons learned.?

The chamber sent an email earlier today asking for a meeting with some of the chapter leadership to discuss airport appreciation day, which will be on May 20. We don't know yet when the meeting will be, but I'm sure it will be soon. As such, let's plan to discuss during Saturday's meeting how we would like that day to look and firm up some plans.?

Finally, we will be flying out to Lancaster after the meeting. I think I might accidentally get to make the trek, but it will be a game time decision. If you're planning to go, please 'reply all' to this thread so we can plan to have enough seats for everyone.

I am so excited about what we are building in our chapter, and I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday!

All the best,
Ronnie?
