Rowan NC Daniel's

Was wondering if anyone is or has researched the Josiah Daniel b 1756 d. 1830 in Rowan NC. ?? He appears to be fairly closely associated with the John and Alleck (Alexander) Daniel who are possibly connected to the William Daniel (Anne) of Brunswick who died in 1786.

? In a court case in dated 1883 the children of his daughter Pallaton who married George Lagle sued Josiah Daniel jr over a parcel of land , Josiah jr's response to the complaint included all of Josiah sr's children, those being Betsy , Slivie (Silvia) , Polly , Sally, Pally (Pallaton), William , Annie , Zadoc and of course Josiah jr.

? ?It is not clear what the relationship between Josiah and John and Alleck is, anyone have any insight ??

Joe, is your Josiah Daniel family represented in the Daniel DNA project? My ancestor Hiram Daniel was born about 1770 in North Carolina, and more specifically lived in Rutherford & Buncombe counties? NC in 1800 & 1810. Some of his children settled in Tennessee, and a bill of sale 1821 in Rhea? Co Tenn from Hiram's "estate" was signed by his son Plummer Daniel and a George Gillespie. I believe the Gillespie family spent some time in Rowan Co before moving west to Rhea Co Tenn where he is buried. Grasping at straws here. My ancestors were farmers & privates in the army, not Generals, who are easier to track.

Hello Clay , I am not aware of anyone from this family on Daniel DNA project, I have been trying to locate and contact people to test, but so far no response from the one's I have located . My interest in this group stems from there being several autosomal matches to my dad's kit, 8 or 9 are above 20 cm's so they aren't insignificant, and I haven't found any other connection to my dad to account for it, my dad also has several matches that trace back to the Joseph Daniel from Brunswick (Waqua creek) so I think I am on paper with the origins of my line but just not in the bulls eye yet. . My 4th GGrandfather William was born about 1760 and I am trying to figure out how he would be connected. Getting a y-dna test for the Josiah group would go a long way. I have not run across the Gillespie name in the research I've done for these Daniel's . There seemed to be a lot of marriages with Foster's? in this group . This Josiah lived in the part of Rowan that later became Davie county.?
? Likewise this Josiah's family were farmers as were my line through William of Shelby county KY.?

I have a few bits of info for the Hiram Daniel family since during my search for our bunch these two families were in Wayne County TN at the same time and their descendants remain there,? In fact I have met and conversed with descendants from both Joseph Abraham and Hiram Daniel families in Wayne Cnty TN and surrounding area. As a mater of fact there are some inter family kin which ,makes it more difficult to be accurate also which suggest these families knew each other prior to arriving in TN.? Just a few tidbits

James, thanks to your work sometime back, I have a three volume pdf set you compiled of the Hiram Daniel Tree that my cousin Faron Daniel sent me back in 2014. It is a great resource. My dad is shown on page 4, Clay Clarence Daniel(s). And I have talked with you before about the incorrect assignment of my ancestor Robert C. Daniel as a son of Joab & Elizabeth Daniel, and not Hiram. The fact that Faron, descendant of Plummer Daniel, is a DNA match me and other known descendants of Robert C Daniel, and not the Jobe & Elizabeth line clears up a lot, but we still don't know much about old Hiram. I have noticed how well you have collected more DNA matches over the years from the Joseph Daniel line. It's all a work in progress. What I do know is that my ancestor Robert C Daniel's middle name is NOT likely to be Callaway, as was once thought. And even sweet old Evelyn Daniel of Moore County Tennessee, who believed in the Robert Callaway Daniel myth wondered why? Elizabeth Callaway Daniel wrote to her son in Lawrence Co when Robert C seemed to be a family? patriarch who lived just a few miles north of Lynchburg. My wife & I visited Evelyn Daniel Vanmeter in 2003, and saw Robert C's grave and where their old house was located, out on Daniel Hollow Road. And we saw Elizabeth Callaway Daniel's grave east of Lynchburg, and even went on the road south of Lynchburg on the road to Winchester to see the grave said to be Joseph's. It is in a small cemetery up a hill, but visible from the main road. It is unmarked, but it is a quite substantial rectangular rock pile. You can't miss it. Evelyn passed away several years ago, but her sister Rayma Reese was the one who led the group of us there, and we are still in touch with her. If anyone seriously wants directions I think I can help.

Thanks,
Clay Daniels Jr.

Thanks Clay but at the young age of 87 I ?doubt I will be climbing any TN hills again, however I did visit one in Wayne County not far from Collinwood where some of my kin are buried.? I just wasted my efforts because I did not take notes and there were no names on any pile of rocks? I assure you in any case I believe there are Daniel remains there and I wish I knew who they were.? Only the TN people know.

I know this is an old thread, but since asking the original question I have found? a Y-dna match with a descendant of Josiah b 1756 d 1830, there seems to be a strong Brunswick VA connection, still looking for a descendant of John Daniel d 1824 in Rowan (Elleck's line daughtered out), but my dad's autosomal kit does have a couple matches with Elleck's descendants.?

Thanks, yes finding the proof is the kicker on all of this. The dna is giving some hints as to family groups but not the specifics. I did find a court order record for Dinwiddie yesterday? in it is the full name of Peyton R Daniel , Tilman R Daniel's father . Its Peuton Randall Daniel, this could mean he is connected to the Randall Daniel in Dinwiddie and later Halifax. From the records it looks like Randall left Dinwiddie/Brunswick about 1785 give or take, Tillman gets married in Warren county NC . So it's all starting to make sense. I am wondering if Tilman's middle name is Randall too. Also in Rowan in 1820 census A Randall 26-45 is next to a Peter same age and a few lines up is Buckner who's the next bracket older , could it be possible that the Randall here is Tilman with his uncles Buckner and Peter ?

The Peyton Daniel is my husband's line. He descends through Tillman R. We don't know what the R stands for. He named his son Theopolis P. Could the P stand for Peyton? Tillman had a brother named Theopolis. They were from Brunswick.

I’ve seen something to the affect that there was a couple, Mr. Elisha Tilghman and Miss Charity (Payton) Tilghman. They had a son born in Dodds County, NC.?
They had a grandson named Robert born 1770.?

Tilghman is just another for Tillman.
