Some record collation shows:
John Daniel, the s/o Samuel (1729-1798) s/o Robert (1691-1742) s/o Robert (d. 1720) s/o Capt Wm of VA Middlesex has been conflated with or has been replaced in error on most trees by the John Daniel who married Susanna Couch.

Some records for John Daniel (d. Aug 1807, md. Mary S. Walton, brother of Robert T., Lunsford, George, and William Daniel ), showing him to be the son of Samuel (VA Middlesex to NC Orange) show:
NC Orange DB 2-382 Robert Campbell and wf Mary, of Orange, to Samuel Daniel (no origin), wr 11 Jul 1782, ?5000 current money of NC, 620a, one New Hope Ck, [metes/bounds], bounded by the Ck, James Trice, John Davis old deeded land, Christopher Barbee, John Barbee, John Davis old deeded land, on E side of New Hope. [Note: John Daniel's estate records of 1807-1810 include slaves Prudence and Mary.]
The early tax lists of Orange are scarce, but most often show a separation of the two John Daniels, one John Daniel closer to the Samuel/George/Lunsford/Robert group, the other John (with 427 acres) with the Christopher/Roger/Patterson Daniel group.
John married Mary Walton, daughter of Edward Walton on 16 Sep 1805.

And then, the important POA that ties the brothers of John in with the estate of John Daniel who married Mary S. Walton:
NC Orange DB 13-237 15 Jun 1808 George Daniel of Granville Co NC, William Daniel of Wake Co NC, and William D. Shackleford of Middlesex Co VA, to Robert T. Daniel of Wake co NC, re debts due them in Orange and Chatham cos NC, [and to handle much more]. POA is to “extend alone to the possessions of the late John Daniel Deceased and to none other”. Wits Jno Craig, C. P. Patterson, Edward Walton Senr.
[Note: William D. Shackleford is part of this POA in right of his wife, Elizabeth Hurt Daniel, daughter of Lunsford and Lydia Daniel, Lunsford being the deceased son of Samuel Daniel, the brother to the other Daniel parties. Elizabeth had md. William D. Shackleford on 10 Jul 1777 in VA Middlesex. Her father Lunsford had gone to Orange with his father, but returned to Middlesex. His estate is probated there and shows he died by 28 Apr 1794.]
I've put this up on the familysearch tree with a note that I'll be detaching the other John Daniel from Samuel on 1 April.
Regards, Happy Spring to you all,
Pam in CA
