He may have taken the train out there once, but generally he did drive. He did a lot of railfanning when he was out there and would have needed a car to get around as well as report for work. As a matter of fact, he would sleep in the back of his Ford wagon on the way out and back instead of in a motel. Of course, that ended when he married my mom.
