Dick Cooper Time Book - 1980s

7/4/80 Canceled. Independence Day holiday pay $81.53 for 100 miles.
?
7/5/80 ENO-1, power 7615-7407, through freight rate, marked on Hudson 1:30 PM, outlawed @ Windsor, marked off Oneonta 3:20 AM, on duty 13:50, paid $173.56 for 194 miles, Cooper engineer, no fireman, J. McAndrews conductor.

Ed --

? ? ?It certainly took him a long time to get through Wilkes-Barre, Scranton and Carbondale!? Did the D&H control any of the interlocking towers down there?? Or were the towers controlled by the EL and LV thus giving those roads a priority?? Did another crew meet him in Windsor?? How did he get up to Oneonta to sign out?

Dave,?

By 1980 it was Conrail he had to contend with not EL & LV. Anything could have been holding them up. At around that time, they were working on the tunnel, I think, and trains had to be jockeyed around at Nineveh.

Another crew would have been brought to the train by van. Because it was at Windsor, they could have come out of Oneonta or Binghamton. The van would have taken them to Oneonta to register off.

Hope this helps.

Ed

Ed --? Thanks for the explanation.? I forgot about the tunnel work.? Even with CR, the W-B/Scranton area must have been difficult to get through with a long train!

I think I can explain a few things here. The ENO-1 ran from Enola to Sunbury on Conrail, then on the Sunbury Main of the First Subdivision to SX Hudson, original First Subdivision (former Pennsylvania Division) to Nineveh, and Second Sub to Oneonta.?
?
The D&H had not yet acquired the former Conrai (EL) line from Scranton to Binghamton. This entire trip was on the original D&H route that did not include Belden Tunnel. Train operations on the First Sub were directly controlled by the D&H train dispatcher at Albany under CTC/TCS Rules. No other railroads were involved.
?
I had originally thought that his train or another had gotten into trouble on Ararat Hill, but more likely he was held by congestion on the Second Sub at Nineveh. He would have been directed to tie up at Windsor for re-crew because it was accessible to the crew van, and did not block any highway crossings.

Thanks again Gordon. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
