Fw: Astronomy Picture of the Day (5/02/2025): Young Star Cluster NGC 346
Astronomy Picture of the Day Discover the cosmos! Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer. 2025 May 2 Young Star Cluster NGC 346 Science - NASA, ESA, CSA, Olivia C. Jones (UK ATC), Guido De Marchi (ESTEC), Margaret Meixner (USRA) Processing - Alyssa Pagan (STScI), Nolan Habel (USRA), Laura Lenki? (USRA), Laurie E. U. Chu (NASA Ames) Explanation: The most massive young star cluster in the Small Magellanic Cloud is NGC 346, embedded in our small satellite galaxy's largest star forming region some 210,000 light-years distant. Of course the massive stars of NGC 346 are short lived, but very energetic. Their winds and radiation sculpt the edges of the region's dusty molecular cloud triggering star-formation within. The star forming region also appears to contain a large population of infant stars. A mere 3 to 5 million years old and not yet burning hydrogen in their cores, the infant stars are strewn about the embedded star cluster. This spectacular infrared view of NGC 346 is from the James Webb Space Telescope's NIRcam. Emission from atomic hydrogen ionized by the massive stars' energetic radiation as well as molecular hydrogen and dust in the star-forming molecular cloud is detailed in pink and orange hues. Webb's sharp image of the young star-forming region spans 240 light-years at the distance of the Small Magellanic Cloud. Inspiring Quotes for Friday, May 02, 2025
The only tired I was, was tired of giving in. Rosa Parks On the evening of December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks boarded a bus in downtown Montgomery, Alabama. She paid her fare and sat in the first row of back seats reserved for Black citizens on the segregated bus. When a white man boarded and found himself with no seat in the ¡°white¡± section, the bus driver ordered Parks and three other Black passengers in her row to stand. Three of the passengers obeyed. Parks did not. Her defiance led to her arrest, and set in motion the Montgomery bus boycott ¡ª turning Parks into a symbol of the civil rights movement. She later wrote that it wasn¡¯t physical tiredness that made her refuse to give up her seat, writing, ¡°No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in.¡± Mary Live long and prosper

Fw: Wordsmith (5/02/2025): A.Word.A.Day -- Piepowder

ETYMOLOGY: From Old French pie (foot) + poudre (powder, dust). Earliest documented use: 1436. NOTES: Back in the pre-sneaker, pre-sidewalk, pre-horseless-carriage era, travelers earned their name the hard way: one dusty footstep at a time. The term piepowder literally means dusty-foot, a poetic nod to the grime that clung to merchants as they wandered from fair to fair, hawking wares and dodging pickpockets. Itinerant merchants were the original pop-up shops. Because disputes over goods, weights, and prices were inevitable, special Courts of Piepowders were held on the spot to mete out justice, fairground-style. Think Judge Judy, but with more livestock and fewer microphones. USAGE: ¡°I had the rogues up at the court of piepowder, and they will harm no more peaceful traders.¡± Arthur Conan Doyle; The White Company; Smith, Elder & Co.; 1891. Fw: Next Level Chef¡¯ recap: May 1
From: Sharon Pohlman Was fantastic what Gordon did for RYAN ¡®Next Level Chef¡¯ recap: One chef goes up in smoke in ¡®Bad to the Bone¡¯ meat challenge Denton Davidson Reality TV May 1, 2025 Tonight on Next Level Chef: With only six chefs remaining, there's a heightened sense of intensity in the kitchen. This week's challenge entails cooking protein with the bone in, which is no small feat in the essence of time. Later, two chefs fight to the finish in the elimination round, where they are presented with a formation of fish to choose from. The chefs will push themselves to the limit in order to progress to the semi-finals in the all-new "Bad to the Bone" episode of Next Level Chef airing Thursday, May 1 (8 p.m. ET/PT) on Fox.The Teams Each week professional chefs, home chefs, and social media chefs have seconds to grab, minutes to cook, and moments to deliver their dishes to mentors Gordon Ramsay, Richard Blais, and Nyesha Arrington. Who will rise to the challenge? And who's dream will go up in smoke? See the teams (with previously eliminated contestants crossed out) below. Team Ramsay Name Age Background Arnav 19 Home Chef Beatrice 18 Pro Chef Meg 33 Social Media Chef Mistie 41 Social Media Chef Ryan 22 Pro ChefTeam Arrington Name Age Background Becca 27 Social Media Chef Bobby 38 Social Media Chef Cathy 30 Home Chef Iman 35 Pro Chef Natalia 28 Home ChefTeam Blais Name Age Background Austin 30 Pro Chef Brandon 36 Pro Chef Jeff 35 Social Media Chef Maryam 31 Home Chef Megan 37 Home Chef Bobby has found himself in a tough spot. He's never cooked ribs in his life and he's never used a pressure cooker. Tonight he's doing both! "This is a challenge that is completely stacked against me," he says. Up on the Top Level, Richard calls Megan's venison rack "a challenging protein," but the Washington native looks confident as she assures her mentor, "I'm from a family of hunters." For the mid-round platform drop, the chef-testants are challenged to fire it up with a flamb¨¦. Nobody set the kitchen on fire, so all is well in this meat challenge. As time winds down, each dish makes it onto the platform on time.Top Dishes The best dishes of the night came straight out of the Basement: Brandon's tomahawk steak and Bobby's pork ribs. They'll both soar up to the Top Level next week, with Brandon earning the final time token of the season.Elimination Cook-Off Two bone-in dishes weren't up to par: Ryan's filet and Megan's venison rack. Beatrice and Austin earned spots in the Middle Level next week. For the elimination cook-off, Ryan and Megan will keep it on the bone by preparing a whole fish in 25 minutes. After the high-stakes cook-off, Gordon and Richard judge each dish. Ryan's sea bream lost a bit of its tail during the cook and it's got the wrong fragrant stuffed inside. There's too much rosemary, but at least the fish is cooked properly. Megan's mackerel is "cooked beautifully" and her dish is a "smart combination" of flavors. In the end, the 10th chef eliminated this season was Ryan, a 22-year-old professional chef from Boston. Gordon says Ryan "has a heart of gold that is destined for success." Then, he offers him a job at one of his Boston restaurants. A tearful Ryan was grateful to hear Gordon believes in him. He leaves the kitchen calling it "an experience of a lifetime." The Challenge Gordon tells the final six that they'll cooking an old-fashioned bone-in meal tonight. They'll have just 30 minutes to cook a perfect protein worthy of advancing to the next round of the competition. Thanks to Megan's delicious tapas last week, she'll be cooking on the Top Level with the benefit of a time token advantage. Megan decides to keep the extra 10 seconds for herself rather than penalize one of her competitors. Joining Megan on the Top Level is Austin. Meanwhile, Beatrice and Ryan are on the Middle Level; Brandon and Bobby in the Basement. With 10 full seconds to herself at the platform, Megan grabs a venison rack. Austin follows and grabs a veal chop, assuming he won't have enough time to cook what he really wanted ¡ª the tomahawk steak. Down a

Fw: Farmer Wants a Wife Season 3 Episode 7 Recap
From: Sharon Pohlman Farmer Wants a Wife Season 3 Episode 7 Recap - Jay invites Rissa as the farmers go camping Story by Preksha Farmer Wants a Wife season 3 episode 7 dropped on Fox on May 1, 2025. The episode featured a camping trip that aimed at bringing the ladies and their farmer closer together. All four of them are trying to get a basic idea of the connection they share with each of the women in their group and whether or not it will be a solid foundation to build a relationship on later. The episode titled 'Let's Go Camping' also saw Rissa enter Jay's farm upon his mother's decision, which made the other ladies, especially Karina, uncomfortable. Turns out that she and Grace need more reassurance than ever. Jay felt like this was the hardest part of the night. His decision to bring Rissa was weighing down on his relationship with the others because they felt as if their connection was not strong enough, and he felt the need to get her back. Clearing the air, Jay told Grace that what they are thinking is not the case, and their connection is strong even from his side of things. He confessed to having genuine feelings On the other hand, John had decided to bring Juliana back, but the other ladies did not seem to mind it that much. However, this does not mean they did not express their doubts about feeling less special now, more than ever. Farmer Wants a Wife Season 3 Episode 7 Recap - The Camping Trip This camping trip on Farmer Wants a Wife was arranged so that the men could select their one final solo date to get to know them better and make an informed decision before marrying. On the trip, as newly introduced Juliana and Rissa meet, they discuss how they are at a disadvantage because they have not spent as much time with their farmers as the other ladies have. However, Juliana is of the mindset that "whatever's meant to be, will be" and isn't focusing on the outcomes yet.As for Karina, she is hesitant. Jay pulls her aside to talk. She feels as if their bond might not be that strong because he decided to invite a new person right after their solo date. However, Jay denies the claims and says he feels the opposite of what she's saying, and they have chemistry together. Farmer Wants a Wife Season 3 Episode 7 Recap - The elimination Later in this Farmer Wants a Wife episode, Nathan and Taylor from the previous season join as mentors for the farmers while they make their tough decisions. Matt, while thinking hard and fast about his connection with the ladies, decides to send Alexandra home as he does not feel a very strong connection to her. As for Colton, he chose to send Hope home because he can not envision a future together with her. Then the solo dates roll out, and Matt and Chelsi hit it off while talking about their parents. Jay and Rissa set off for their date, where they talk about their plans. John takes Lily for a date, having felt a spark previously with her. The two kissed by the end of the night, but Kaylee soon got upset when this news broke out. By the end of this Farmer Wants a Wife episode, viewers see that an upset Kaylee, who always thought that her connection was not as strong with John as it should be, tipped off by the news of him and Lily kissing, decided to leave the farm. In her confession, she stated always felt this way towards him. Farmer Wants a Wife Season 3 Episode 7 Recap - Jay invites Rissa as the farmers go camping ? Mary Live long and prosper
