Fw: The Amazing Race Recap 04/30/25:
From: Sharon Pohlman The Amazing Race Recap 04/30/25: Season 37 Episode 9 ¡°The Pizza de R¨¦sistance¡± BY Kristine Francis on April 30, 2025 Tonight the CBS series The Amazing Race airs with an all-new Wednesday, April 30, 2025, season 37 episode 9 and we have your The Amazing Race recap below. In tonight¡¯s season, 37 episode 9 called, ¡°The Pizza de R¨¦sistance,¡± as per the CBS synopsis, ¡°Teams travel to Naples, Italy, where they must perfect their pizza-making skills. In tonight¡¯s The Amazing Race episode, the teams raced to Naples, Italy. They got to use Expedia. They didn¡¯t have to worry about travel agencies or a language barrier. They just had to worry about the other teams. Bulgaria humbled quite a few. Carson and Jack promised to be better at working together. Hans and Holden began arguing more. The gamers may be like siblings, but actual siblings fought all the time. It¡¯s when the fighting stops that everyone knows that they no longer love the other. They may try to push that argumentativeness away. And it never lasts. It also doesn¡¯t hurt them. Han and Holden don¡¯t fight until they get lost. Or in last place. Italy on the other hand brought up some ugly memories for the gamers. Carson and Jack have been there before. It¡¯s where they had one of the few fights they¡¯ve ever had. They were arguing so much that Italian grandmothers told them off for being loud Americans. The guys have since worked on their communication. They tried to lower their fighting. They were even willing to go back to Italy because they¡¯ve come far in their relationship. The teams all headed to Naples where they were told to catch a funicular. It¡¯s a train going up the hill. The view up there was amazing if not a little distracting. People lost precious seconds because of that view. They go up the mountain. They get their next clue. The clue part was fine. It was getting back down that proved to be an issue because the funicular was always running. They also weren¡¯t the only ones catching the train in the city. There were some that caught the earlier train. There were others that caught the second train. The great equalizer was in the fact that everyone struggled with directions. They tried asking people for directions on the train. They all got told something different. By time they got the next clue at the Pulcinella Statue, they were given two options. They could put together a mandolin. The traditional Italian guitar. Or they could make mozzarella braids. There were four teams that chose cheese. The only ones to choose the mandolin was Ana and Jonathan. The two activities were both hard. The cheese sounded easy in theory while being hard. They had to twist six different pieces of mozzarella. It had to be big. It couldn¡¯t be too big. It also had to be twisted a certain way. The expert showed the teams how to do it and it was up to them to figure out how to repeat it. Jack and Carson were the first to get it right. It took them multiple attempts. One of them also happened to be ? Italian. The same for Brett and Mark. They had Italian heritage and it still took them about same amount of attempts as the best friends. And if Alyssa and Josiah had been quicker to the station, they could have easily been first. They got in on their first attempt. They were off in third place. Ana and Jonathan also finished their mandolins. Hans and Holden were in last place. They were overthinking the challenge. They finally went up for their first attempt after everyone else left the cheese station. They got four out of six. Knowing they weren¡¯t as bad as they thought helped return their confidence. They were able to get the rest on their second attempt. They were off to the next stop. The next stop for everyone was to an alley where they got a grocery list from Italian women. The teams had to buy everything on the list using the money they got from the women. Then go back to the women with the groceries. The women checked and, if they got all of them, they got their next clue. Brett and Mark were the first to complete that task. Jonathan and Ana were second. Carso

Fw: Survivor 48¡¯ recap: APRIL 30
From: Sharon Pohlman ¡®Survivor 48¡¯ recap: Mary¡¯s ¡®weird-ass motley crew¡¯ plots a path against Joe¡¯s ¡®core four¡¯ John Benutty Reality TV April 30, 2025Previously on Survivor 48 , Kyle Fraser and Shauhin Davari were successful in an ongoing coverup of their offshoot alliance with Kamilla Karthigesu. Clocked as untrustworthy by their allies David Kinne and Mary Zheng, Kyle and Shauhin put in the work to convince Joe Hunter and Eva Erickson to betray David, using his paranoid energy against him in an epic blindside. This week, Mary attempts to band together a "weird-ass motley crew" after being alienated from her alliance. Does Mary have the social capital to pull off a blindside or is she giving away the all-powerful swing vote position to someone else? Read on for our recap of Survivor Season 48, Episode 10, titled "My Enemies Are Plottin'," which aired Wednesday, April 30 on CBS. The players still competing to become "sole Survivor" at the start of the episode were: Eva Erickson, Joe Hunter, Kamilla Karthigesu, Kyle Fraser, Mary Zheng, Mitch Guerra, Shauhin Davari, and Star Toomey. The members of the jury that will decide the winner are: Cedrek McFadden, Chrissy Sarnowsky, and David Kinne. "Bro, I can't take that snorin' no mo'" ¡ª Star Toomey In an attempt to make good with Mary after blindsiding her in the David vote, Eva told Mary that she did what she could to keep the vote off of Mary and promised to let her know in advance if a vote is coming her way. In saying that, Eva also made it clear that she might actually vote Mary in the future as a decoy and confirmed that she will "not be playing the idol" on her behalf. Eva returned to her actual allies (Joe, Shauhin and Kyle) to confess her conversation with Mary and how she told her she should just lay low and be a number for them, underscoring that it would be a smooth sail for them to the final four. At the same time, Mary returned to the others and gathered with Star and Kamilla to build an opposing plan that they all stick together with Mitch against the other four no matter what -- their first target? Joe. Despite her opposition to his snoring at night, Star approached Mitch with the pitch to stick together as four, even if it means going to rocks in a tied vote situation. Mitch referred to it as "the biggest joke in the game" for Star to be the one to come to him with the plan because she voted for him at the last Tribal Council. Joe and Shauhin both had their sights set on bringing Kamilla and Mitch in to their core four to get to the final six. When Kyle and Kamilla put their heads together, Kamilla confessed that the bottom four are talking about going for Joe in a 4-4 tie situation, but Kyle countered that Joe is honest about wanting to keep Kamilla around and told her that while he's not willing to go against another alliance member, he could at least give her a chance at going for Joe as long as no one learns he knew about it. "I need Mitch, Star and Mary as pissed off as they can possibly be" ¡ª Kyle Fraser For the Day 18 reward challenge, the final eight had to drag a buoy along a rope through the sand while having their hands and legs tied before landing three rings on a throwing target. The winner would get to escape to a neighboring island for a fried chicken and waffles picnic. Shauhin, Eva and Kyle got the best starts in the sand slithering. The leaders all flopped when trying to loosen their rings from the obstacle, leaving room for those behind them to catch up, but then Kyle held off a late surge from Joe to earn the win for himself. As the winner, Kyle chose to bring Eva, Kamilla and Shauhin as his guests, leaving Mitch feeling disappointed by his omission from the group. In his confessional on the topic, Kyle pointed out that he purposefully left Mitch, Star and Mary out of the reward so that they'd be "as pissed off as they can possibly be" to work with Kamilla against Joe. Also bothered by Kyle's decision was Joe, but he talked himself down from being upset about it and considered that Kyle chose him to "babysit" Mary. Joe also used it as an opp

Well, I am no stranger to fighting for survival," said Pearl. "Here, I've shown I can do any and all genres ¡ª and I've kept the panel spinning in circles. You know, one thing about me is I'm not afraid to blaze a trail. When I first broke onto the scene there weren't many women doing what I was doing. I thought, 'Why not?' So I started my own movement and ended up opening doors for so many others. But tonight, it's about showing Boogie Woogie the door. And believe me, it won't be easy, but I can stand up for myself so ... bye bye Boogie Woogie!"Boogie Woogie responded, "I'm not going anywhere, honey! Okay, you've got me fired up now. I'm usually a happy-go-lucky guy, but the farther I get here, the more serious I'm becoming. I'm tapping into emotions that have been asleep for way too long. So tonight I'm coming at you with an upbeat, uptempo song to bring the power of Boogie Woogie. That's what it's gonna take to beat a wildcard like Pearl!" Boogie Woogie went first, singing "Maps" by Maroon 5 before revealing he has a connection to Ken. He told the panelist, "You're clearly a fan of mine, as you're one of my millions of followers. I promise when this is over I will finally follow you back." The panelists guessed Boogie Woogie was Ed Sheeran (Ken), Kevin Jonas (Rita), or Justin Guarini (Jenny). Pearl fought back by singing "You Don't Own Me" by Lesley Gore before telling Jenny, "Not only did we walk the same carpet, but you watched me win one of my biggest awards at the AMAs." The panelists guessed Pearl was Kacey Musgraves (Jenny), Martina McBride (Ken), Ann Wilson (Robin), or Natalie Maines (Rita). The Winner The winner of this battle was Pearl! She will advance straight into the finale while Boogie Woogie heads into the final smackdown later tonight.Mad Scientist Monster vs. Coral In the night's second battle, Mad Scientist Monster took on Coral. Before the big competition, they shared a few more clues while engaging in some smack talk: "I am so pumped for a battle," Coral said. "I mean, I'm the youngest left in the competition ¡ª and ¡ª I'm actually one of the youngest ever to get this far. There's only one thing left to do ¡ª and that's wipe the floor with this crazy old scientist." Mad Scientist Monster fired back, "Hey! I'm not that old. Plus, with age comes experience ¡ª and believe me ¡ª I've been training for this my whole life. As an athlete-turned-singer, I apply a sports mentality to all my performances. I'm not just cruisin' here, I'm working hard. I'm doing cardio, keeping my strength up, carbo-loading ¡ª so I'm more than ready to take down this little tadpole." Coral took the stage first singing "What Was I Made For?" by Billie Eilish before telling Rita, "Your franchise and my franchise are going to make beautiful sweet music later this year." The panelists guessed Coral was Meg Donnelly (Rita), Kylee Russell (Rita), Sofia Carson (Rita), Peyton List (Ken), or Hailee Steinfeld (Jenny). Mad Scientist Monster stepped up to the challenge by singing "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" by Shaboozey before asking Robin, "Remember that Lucky Duck clue about someone stealing something from you?

Fw: JoeBlogs (4/30/2025): From 2013: Topps' Secret Code
April 30, 2025 | Listen Online | Read Online From 2013: Topps' Secret Code I wrote this admittedly bizarre but also kind of wonderful post a dozen years ago, shortly after I got a complete set of 1976 baseball cards. I was even more nuts then than I am now. I¡¯m reposting it here as I wrote it then ¡ª errors and all ¡ª because it leads into an item in Thursday¡¯s Batting Order. I hope you enjoy. January 15, 2013 I spent joyous hours sorting a bunch of old Topps cards, putting them in plastic pages, flipping the pages, reminiscing about the Father-Son cards and the Sporting News All-Time Player cards (as a kid I ALWAYS seemed to get the Pie Traynor). It really is a blast. I get lost in them. Here are the Sporting News All-Time All-Stars as of 1976 (and who would probably be on the team now): 1B: Lou Gehrig (Same. Pujols could pass him, maybe) 2B: Rogers Hornsby (Same. I prefer Joe Morgan) 3B: Pie Traynor (No. It would be Mike Schmidt. George Brett has his fans) SS: Honus Wagner (Same) RF: Babe Ruth (Same) CF: Ty Cobb (No. Willie Mays) LF: Ted Williams (Same. Barry Bonds could not win an all-time election) C: Mickey Cochrane (No. Johnny Bench or Yogi Berra, I think) RHP: Walter Johnson (Maybe same. Greg Maddux or Tom Seaver ¡ª Pedro Martinez or Roger Clemens) LHP: Lefty Grove (Maybe same. I happen to think Randy Johnson is the best lefty starter ever) But the point today is not the cards themselves. Today, for your benefit, I have done what I have to believe is one of the most pointless research projects in the history of Planet Earth. I have gone deep on the Topps Numbering System. When I was a kid, I noticed ¡ª as countless kids before and since have noticed ¡ª that while the Topps numbers on the back SEEM random (not by team, not by position, etc.), there was an odd coincidence: The best players seemed to get the round numbers. I don¡¯t remember this hitting me all at once ¡ª it was just something I noticed. Hey, Tom Seaver is No. 200! Hey, Johnny Bench is number 500! That¡¯s weird! And the more it went on, the more I thought: Did they do this on purpose? And then I started to realize: Oh yeah, they DEFINITELY did do this on purpose. The biggest stars very often have card numbers that end in 00 or 50 (I call these "Topps Prime" cards to make them sound important ¡ª I even capitalize "Prime"). But it¡¯s not just the prime players. Even minor stars almost always have numbers that end in 0 as well. Let¡¯s look at a few of my 1976 cards from 360 to 410: 360: Jeff Burroughs. Former MVP. 367: Bruce Miller 370: Ron Cey. The Penguin. All-Star. 374: Dan Warthen 380: Bobby Bonds. Another All-Star. Mr. 30-30. 386: Ed Goodson ¡ª who along with Bill Todman produced The Price Is Right and ¡ oh, no, that was Mark Goodson. 390: Don Gullett. Ace pitcher of world champion Reds. 393: Paul Mitchell 400: Rod Carew. Annual batting champion. Superstar. Hall of Famer. 406: Ed Hermann 410: Ralph Garr. Batting champion. All-Star. And so it goes. Tito Fuentes? He gets No. 8. Lou Brock? He gets No. 10. And so on. So here was my idea: I figured I could go through all the Topps checklists ¡ª yes, I said all the Topps checklists (hey, this is my blog, not yours) ¡ª and pull out the players whose cards ended with 50 and 00. And I would see which players have been most honored by Topps. And, more to the point (as if there is a point), I would see which players were viewed as truly great and popular and awesome WHILE they were playing. One of the things people say about Jack Morris is that he was viewed as a dominant pitcher during his playing days. Well, I honestly don't remember it that way. I remember him being a good pitcher, but I don't remember him being Tom Seaver or Jim Palmer or even Ron Guidry. So, I thought, hey, why not see how often Morris' card ended with a 00 or 50. Let¡¯s create a scoreboard! Before we get to that scoreboard, though, here are a few quick words about the scoring process, which should interest you even less than the rest of this: 00 is better than 50. The best of the best get 00 on the end. The players who have 50 at the end of their numbe
