Fw: Astronomy Picture of the Day (5/23/2025): NGC 6366 vs 47 Ophiuchi
Astronomy Picture of the Day Discover the cosmos! Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer. 2025 May 23 NGC 6366 vs 47 Ophiuchi Image Credit & Copyright: Massimo Di Fusco Explanation: Most globular star clusters roam the halo of our Milky Way galaxy, but globular cluster NGC 6366 lies close to the galactic plane. About 12,000 light-years away toward the constellation Ophiuchus, the cluster's starlight is dimmed and reddened by the Milky Way's interstellar dust when viewed from planet Earth. As a result, the stars of NGC 6366 look almost golden in this telescopic scene, especially when seen next to relatively bright, bluish, and nearby star 47 Ophiuchi. Compared to the hundred thousand stars or so gravitationally bound in distant NGC 6366, 47 Oph itself is a binary star system a mere 100 light-years away. Still, the co-orbiting stars of 47 Oph are too close together to be individually distinguished in the image. Inspiring Quotes for Friday, May 23, 2025
Wisdom In this world there are only two tragedies. One is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it.~ Oscar Wilde Oscar Wilde Irish poet and playwright (1854-1900) Oscar Wilde was a popular playwright in London in the 1890s, and his unapologetically flamboyant personality and razor-sharp wit have ensured his enduring legacy. His first hit play, ¡°Lady Windermere¡¯s Fan,¡± is an upper-class comedy that tells the story of a wife who suspects her husband of having an affair. The play made Wilde rich and also gave us some of his most famous lines, including the quote above, spoken by the minor character Mr. Dumby. When Lord Darlington reveals his unrequited love for Lady Windermere, Dumby congratulates him, arguing there are only two tragedies in the world: ¡°One is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it. The last is much the worst, the last is a real tragedy!¡± In other words, striving for a goal and failing can be difficult, but it can ultimately prove to be a more valuable experience, as the journey of pursuing a much-desired objective can sometimes be more fulfilling and transformative than the end result. Fw: ¡°Farmer Wants a Wife¡± Season 3 Finale:
From: Sharon Pohlman Anyone that watched this do you think any of them will be together in 6 months? I don't¡°Farmer Wants a Wife¡± Season 3 Finale: Who Did the Farmers Pick? Story by Story by Dory Jackson ? 12h After the final family meet and greet, the four farmers were tasked with choosing one of their two ladies to continue pursuing Farmer Matt Warren, Farmer Jay Woods, Farmer John Sansone and Farmer Colton Hendricks had to make their final pick during the show's two-hour season finale Before they could do that, the gents went on their second (and final) family meet and greet Final choices made by some of the farmers ultimately left their contenders stunned Some very big (and surprising) decisions were made during the Farmer Wants of Wife season finale. Farmer Matt Warren, Farmer Jay Woods, Farmer John Sansone and Farmer Colton Hendricks were tasked with choosing which of their final two ladies they wanted to continue exploring a relationship with. Before they could do that, the gents went on their second and final family meet and greet. John ended up surprising Claire¡¯s mom as he revealed he wanted a ¡°traditional family,¡± where the wife would be ¡°home with the children¡± as he worked, which he knew ¡°can be controversial¡± to say. But Claire¡¯s mom told the cameras she ¡°can¡¯t imagine her [daughter] not working¡± and has ¡°never¡± expressed interest in being a stay-at-home mom. Still, despite their ¡°different¡± ways, her mother wasn¡¯t opposed to the pairing. Zoe then declared to Colton¡¯s parents that she would ¡°definitely be willing¡± to move to the farm, especially as her career aspirations can be done anywhere, and he affirmed with her loved ones that he didn¡¯t want to ¡°pull her away from things she¡¯s doing in life.¡± Luckily, her mom noted that it likely wouldn¡¯t ¡°be a problem¡± for Zoe and that she¡¯s ¡°flexible.¡± She later expressed hope for the pair being able to ¡°connect his goals with her goals.¡± ? Meanwhile, Matt¡¯s parents got right to it, asking Chelsi if she was ready to start a family, which she noted she is. His parents felt Chelsi was a ¡°sweet girl¡± whose ¡°temperament would be great for Matt.¡± And given the pair¡¯s aspirations to settle down and get married, they think Matt and Chelsi would make a great fit. Her family also had similar things to say about Matt, noting that they ¡°really¡± liked him. Jay, on the other hand, was grilled by Karina¡¯s dad, who asked whether he had ¡°determination¡± to ¡°make money¡± and pursue a prosperous path over one of comfort. Jay¡¯s ¡°sincere¡± answer to that question ultimately ¡°impressed¡± Karina¡¯s dad. Additionally, Karina also managed to leave a good impression on Jay¡¯s family, with his parents even noting that they ¡°wouldn¡¯t have a problem calling her ¡®daughter.¡¯¡± Later, as the pair spoke one-on-one, Karina told Jay she was ready to be his ¡°wife.¡± It was finally time for the four male leads to pick the woman they think is their best match. However, the final choices made by Farmer Colton and Farmer Matt, in particular, ultimately left their contenders stunned.Farmer Jay Woods Before Jay made his final pick, he acknowledged that Karina and Grace, both 23, ¡°line up to what I¡¯m looking for in a wife.¡± However, despite being giddy with her as they met on decision day, the Alabama native decided to send Karina home. ¡°The person you are on the inside and out is just super beautiful. Every time you walk up, I¡¯m just looking like, wow, she¡¯s amazing. And then, when you smile, it makes me smile automatically. You work on the farm, everything about that lines up to what I want,¡± Jay, 25, explained. ¡°But this process has been tough on me just because I never had to date eight women at one time and really have feelings for two ladies, like I do right now.¡± Jay said he took time to ¡°think about this¡± and prayed on it before concluding that he has ¡°a stronger connection with Grace¡± and needed to ¡°end¡± his bond with Karina, who was understanding of his decision. As he later spoke to Grace, Jay appeared to be more nervous, initially telling her that there was ¡°a spark¡± from their first meeting. He also no

Fw: Top Chef Recap: The Meat Sweats MAY 22
From: Sharon Pohlman ¡®Top Chef¡¯ Recap, Season 22 Episode 11: ¡®Calgary, Yahoo!¡¯ overnights Top Chef Recap: The Meat Sweats By Roxana Hadadi, a Vulture TV critic who also covers film and pop culture. She is a juror for the Peabody Awards. Hello! Howdy! As the people of Calgary apparently say, yahoo! Vulture TV critic Roxana Hadadi here, and I¡¯m filling in for your normal brilliant recapper Caroline Framke this week. As a longtime Top Chef watcher (and former recapper myself), let me quickly get some things out of the way before we dive into this week¡¯s rodeo-themed episode. My thoughts on the Voltaggios are Bryan > Michael; I¡¯m definitely going to watch Padma¡¯s new cooking competition, America¡¯s Culinary Cup, when it airs on CBS later this year; and I¡¯m so happy Tom is wearing goofy hats again. Everything about the world in 2025 might be crap, but at least this man is still keeping his local milliner in business. Do we think he hit up a hat store in Calgary? With my whole heart, I hope so. Alberta¡¯s ¡°Cowtown¡± is the location for this week¡¯s semifinals and for a Quickfire challenge that throws the contestants for a loop. (I am trying to make a lassoing reference here; did it work?) When the six show up at the Calgary Olympic Plaza ¡ª where Kristen, Gail, and Tom are wearing so much sherpa that I was reminded of that Colorado elimination challenge at high-altitude Alpino Vino ¡ª they learn about the city¡¯s cowboy history. In honor of the Calgary Stampede, an outdoor rodeo held there since 1912, and its pancake-breakfast tradition, the contestants have to cook a handheld pancake that the judges (and 50 diners!) can eat without utensils. It¡¯s a wild challenge and reminds me of the All-Stars L.A. Quickfire in Italy when the chefs had to cook an aperitivo for 30 diners. More Quickfires outside of the kitchen, please, let¡¯s switch it up! The biggest challenge for the chefs during the 45-minute Quickfire is maintaining the temperature of the griddle; nearly everyone burns their tester pancakes. But also, nearly everyone figures out how to use the flattop except for my beloved loudmouth Massimo, whose pivot into cooking little blini-style pancakes in frying pans leaves the diners (and judges) wanting more. Successful dishes are Shuai¡¯s cornmeal pancake with scrambled eggs, Chinese sausage, and a crispy cheese exterior; Bailey¡¯s buckwheat crespelle with brown-butter pecans, plum maple syrup, and roasted mushrooms and spinach; and Tristen¡¯s Portuguese-style pancake with cheese, berbere chorizo, and charred pepper and bacon syrup. (We get a little insight into Tristen¡¯s multicultural cooking style by learning his mother was in the military and stationed all around the world, and they moved every two years.) On the bottom are Massimo¡¯s (too small) buttermilk pancake with plum sauce, smoked bacon marmalade, and peach pur¨¦e; Lana¡¯s creamed-corn hoecake with (too much) sausage, poached peaches, and peach and white hibiscus syrup; and C¨¦sar¡¯s (too soggy) XO pancake with basil, Chinese sausage, br?l¨¦ed tomato, and candied mushrooms. Walking away with the win is Shuai, who nets $10,000 and is now at $20,000 in cash earnings. The elimination challenge is beef, so much beef, all the beef. Because ranchers and First Nations communities historically commingled at the Calgary Stampede, the chefs will need to do the same with their dishes by pairing beef with an Indigenous ingredient: a particular type of berry. Each chef gets to pick the cut they want, but they draw knives randomly for their fruit. Massimo gets beef tenderloin and elderberries; Shuai, short ribs and black currants; Bailey, beef cheek and Saskatoon berry; Lana, New York striploin and haskap berry; C¨¦sar, rib eye and chokeberry; and Tristen, flat iron and gooseberry. Guest judge and First Nations member chef Denia Baltzer is there to explain the berries if the chefs are unfamiliar, but most everyone seems aware of what they get except for Bailey and Lana.
