B 4 head stock

Dennis Turk

Hi Ron and Mike

OK I have a number of lathes here that are only good for parts. Let
me know just what all you need. If you wont a complete head stock or
just a casting with the bearing caps. If only the castings are
needed then I will dismantle two head stocks and strip the castings
glass bead blast them clean and put a coat of primer on them. That
way you only have to paint them to match our machine after you get
them. I will look and see if I have the shifters for these two head
stocks as they should go with them. the holes on the back of the
head stock were the shot pin engages was drilled on assembly and I
have found them to be quite different from head stock to head stock.
One other problem I have found is that as your bearings ware down and
you keep filing the split between the two bearing shells to keep a
tight spindle it starts riding lower in the casting. This throws the
head stock and tail stock aliment off. It can also cause a problem
with the end gears. I have had one lathe that the spindle was
sitting so low that the end gears rubbed even when in the neutral
position.

One thing we can do is you send me your head stock with shifter and I
will see what I can do to match up replacement head stock castings
the best I can.
