New Dalton Lot 5 Owner
I bought a Dalton Lot 5 last weekend. ?I'll post better pictures sometime in the next couple of weeks. It was part of a bigger buy and I need to get everything put away before I can get proper pictures.
It was, says the previous owner, black with gold pinstripes. ?It is currently dirt/rust covered. ?It has lived outside for an extended period of time. The compound does move but nothing else does. ?I noticed near zero back lash in the compound and no visible ridge on the ways. ?I have a feeling it was purchased and stuck in a corner somewhere and rarely used. ?Hopefully it looks just as good once the dirt/rust/grime is removed. It is a 36" bed, Lot 5 no 50. ?I has a taper attachment and threading dial. ?No change gears. ?Three jaw chuck. ?It is missing all guards include the rear guard that would have the change gear threading information. ? My plans are to restore it to as near as how it left the factory as possible. ?I'd love to find some guards to replace the missing one but will fabricate some if needed. ?I need change gears and would like to buy some original ones but if not will be happy with some from Boston Gear. ? I will use the lathe some but I have others so it is more of a restoration/history project. Nice?looking Dalton, Jeff. I'm sure others will chime in with me on this. Can you see if you can find the Serial # on the tailstock end of the bed? More pictures will be nice also. We'll be looking to before and after photos. You've come to the?right place. Dennis Turk is our most experienced owner here, and he may have some questions and advice?for you. Be sure to check out our photo and files sections here also. Dan On Fri, Sep 2, 2022 at 10:57 AM <jeff.brown@...> wrote: I bought a Dalton Lot 5 last weekend.? Jeff, is the paddle some kind of lock to make the shift handle stay put? It does look like the feed/thread reverse lever has been braised.? At first I thought it was just bronze but upon closer inspection it might well be braised as well.? |
