what is the thread pitch of a daltin headstock (Lot 4)?
|
|
For the spindle its 1 1/4 - 12 threads per inch. This size is for the Lot 2 3 4 and 5. Lot 6 and the Dalton 9 is 1 7/8 - 8. Not sure what the 10 1/2 inch had as there is only a couple known of and no one in this group has one of the three I know of. Dennis who's email just started working again after being down for a month for some reason. Its Frontier what can I say:-((((

Yes Glen. I have a weird project; ?not for a dalton BUT I happen to have a spare 3 jaw chuck with a dalton back plate on it. ?I also have a toasted Grizzly G0602 tail stock; ?it is not repairable but the center shaft on it is 1/14 or ? the right size to fit that 3 jaw’s threads. ?My Idea was to make a spinning 3 jaw tail stock fixture for a project at hand ?while my new Grizzly tail stock is on order ($400 bucks ?Ouch!) ?-I said it was weird :)

I do have a hugmongous 12” two jaw going to waste, and a couple of 12” faceplates- set up for d1-4 cam locks. New, never used. ?But that’s it...

For you guys that? do not have a quick change tool post for
your Dalton yet there are some great deals on eBay right now.? I just got
an OXA set with three extra number 1 tool holders free freight for 124
bucks.? You can actually get a standard set of tool post and fives holders
for less than $100 right now.? The ones I got came out of Comifornia
though they were made in Chinky land.? Rock hard and will ring a file so
make of good material the finish work is outstanding with all surfaces ground
then after black oxide coating was applied they had the working surfaces ground
again to a very fine finish.? I have never seen an Aloris site that was
finished this well.? The OXA is the perfect size for your lot 2 3 4 and 5
lathes and I also recommend this set for a Lot 6 as the distance from the top
of the compound to the center line of the spindle is the same on all
Daltons.? Even the Dalton 9.? I have used a OXA on the Lot 6 I used
down at my coast shop and built two steam engines with that lathe.? By the
way as much as I hate to let that lathe go its about the best Dalton I have bar
none.? This Dalton is the next to the newest one we know of.? Purchased

When I set a OXA up on a Dalton this is the way I do it.? I
make a round spacer that is 5/16 inch thick to go under the tool post.?
This brings the tool holders to the center of the tool post when using 10 MM or
3/8 square shank insert tool holders.? I really do recommend this set up
for your Dalton. This also means I make a new tool post stud to mount the tool post
to the compound.? Also you have to machine the tool post Tee bolt to fit
your compound.? Again Dalton Tee slots in the compound slide are the same
for all lot numbers even the Dalton 9 inch. Also a short video of one of the
engines I built on my really nice Lot 6. The one picture is where I am
machining the cylinder bore on the steam engine using a 6 inch four jaw
chuck.? Held the bore to within .0005 on an old 1929 latheJ
?
?And as you can see I am a bit bored today.? For them
that don’t know it I know live alone now as my wife is now in a care home
for memory challenged people.? I just could not take care of her any
longer.? Sad but that is what happens when you get old sometimes.

Hi Bart? Well as always Frontier is a bit of a hit and miss service.? I am down at my Florence home right now and Frontier gets really confused when I use two different computers.? Everytime I change computers they keep asking me for my email pass word for two to four days before they finally decide its me.? I? haves several lathes you might be interested in.? Not any of the restored ones but I have several wide bed 9 inch lathes one with the overhead drive.? It’s a tool room version with the power feed apron.? I also have a floor model SB 8 Jr. on floor legs.? I will be back in Mc later next week. ? Dennis ? Sent from for Windows ?

So I have 30 machines all restored in wonderful condition that need to find a new home.? If anyone is interested contact me.? Two Lot 5 lathes one 30 and one 36 inch.? A Dalton TL with overhead gear drive a two Lot 6 lathes one 1917 that is basically brand new and the one I restored and used to build a couple of? model steam engines with that? is a really nice lathe with lots of upgrades.? Also have a few South Bend lathes and three Atlas lathes. ?Couple of more odd ball lathes. oh well, it was worth a shot. ?email me at?pilgrim23@...??we can work out a deal Alas, nothing in smaller sizes. Just the one little 5” original chuck off the Dalton, which now has the jaws so bell shaped as to be worthless.? I do have a hugmongous 12” two jaw going to waste, and a couple of 12” faceplates- set up for d1-4 cam locks. New, never used. ?But that’s it... Glen B got one you could swap? ?I mean of a different sort like for an Atlas or Craftsman or the like? ? I’ve been looking for a dalton backplate. ?If you happen to decide that you are not going use yours, please let me. Happy to buy it off you. ?My Idea was to make a spinning 3 jaw tail stock fixture for a project at hand ?while my new Grizzly tail stock is on order ($400 bucks ?Ouch!) ?-I said it was weird :) On Fri, Aug 20, 2021 at 5:56 PM Grey Pilgrim <pilgrim23@...> wrote: what is the thread pitch of a daltin headstock?
