tool post

Mark E. Frazier

I want to put a quick change tool post on my Dalton lathe. Has anyone
done this and what model did you use. I checked the size 100 and it
seems it may be too big and not allow the holders to go low enough to
be on center. At least it looks that way from the dimensions in the
catalog. Are the mini lathe QCT posts too amall? I hate the thought of
ordering one and finding it won't work. I would appreciate any opinions.

Hi Mark
?
Here is what I put on John Glands Dalton and it worked out just fine.? Your right the 100 or even the 075 size is to big.? This one is built for 6 to 8 inch lathes.

I purchased a Phase II Hobby Toolpost from Littlemachineshop.com
and its wotking out fine for me. made from hardened steel

ProductID=2401&category=-419988835

Had to make/modify the flat nut that fits into the bottom slot of the
dalton. If I recall correctly I made a new one out of flat steel so
it fits in the slot

I have purchased several of Little machineshop Phase II hobby tool post but I have used them on 9 inch South Bend workshop lathes but not on a Lot 4 Dalton.? They work great on a Lot 6 ?8-1/2 inch lathe but I think they are a little overkill on a Lot 2-3-4?or Lot 5?7-1/4 inch machine.? Not to mention they are almost two times the price though they are a very high quality tool post. The smaller $89 dollar plunger model I find is well suited to the Lot?2-3-4-and 5?lathe and though not near the quality of the Phase II it is a good value for the dollar and will work great on your small lathe.

Dennis
?
That tool post works great on my B-4.? I use two different tools for making the fife ferrules, One to turn and taper to final diameter and another for making scored lines.? Turning one Nickel Silver ferrule complete witih the Dalton takes about 4 minutes. So every 4 minutes I have two tool changes.? I'll be turning tonight and will take some pictures of what this tool post looks like mounted on the Dalton
?
I have also thought of getting one of these for my South bend.
