Re: Greetings from K15JDN

Thanks. I finally figured out it was because I had renamed the primary channel and apparently that matters even if encryption key is the same. When I updated the primary channel name to LongFast I started seeing nodes appear. My elevation is decent from 2nd floor window. I might set one of these up in the top of my attic and see if it gets any more range.?

Hi Folks,
?
Most of the correspondence these days is on the NTXMesh Discord server. There is plenty of support there. Here is the link from the "join group" page of the NTX Mesh website:

Re: Greetings from K15JDN

Keith,
The meshes are few and far between. Reception is highly dependent on your antenna height. That being said, I have an outside node at only four feet, but it does hear other nodes. Give us some more details on your setup and maybe we can help.

Greetings from K15JDN

Just found this group, and the Facebook group. I've had my two Heltec V3's for a while now but haven't done anything more than get them paired to our phones and testing messages between them. They never see any other nodes even when I leave them running for weeks, so not sure if I managed to exclude them from the default mesh or something. What settings should I be using to see other nodes in DFW area?

Nodes in Overhead Aircraft - And whatever they're meshed to!

I've seen nodes show up that appear to be from an overhead, aerial location, above 12,000 feet. I'm a mile south of Love Field in the Oak Lawn Heights Neighborhood, near Cherrywood Park. My node receiving was a Heltec v3 with a $7 Ali Express full-wave 33cm whip antenna in my Northernmost window at about five feet above the ground, indoors. Another node which I own showed three more nodes over 500 miles away, in Tennessee, as second and third hops. All totaled, only a dozen nodes have ever shown up, since building my nodes in June. Amazing, but I'd rather have a few dozen nodes in my very own neighborhood!

Node HCL3 shows a little pirate flag next to the node short name. What does this mean?

Hi guys,
?
I saw this on the Meshtastic Reddit. My son (Trey, WA5RAG, new ham) and I have been passively into Meshtastic. I’m a data analytics prof over at SMU.

Looks like the invite above has expired. Search for "DFW/ NTX Mesh" for the Discord channel.
?
There is also a new Reddit subreddit at r/dfwmesh?

Not posting this to shift people from using this platform. Just letting those interested that there is also a discord channel for the DFW/North Texas Meshtatic community.

Re: Let's get this going

Hello,

Just set up a Heltec V3 in Uptown, currently running with a Ziisor antenna. I've realized it’s not the best, so I’ve ordered the ANT-916-CW-HW-SMA from Mouser. Any other Meshtastic users around the Uptown Dallas area?

Hello

Let's get this going

I just found this site. It's very nice, but we need to rally up some network.?
?
I have no hardware at the moment. This is such a great idea, I want to help.?
?
I have current GMRS, Amateur licenses, and other qualifications we can get into later.?
?
It looks like this group has fallen asleep. Just say hello if you're still out there, please. Especially if you'd like to help enable a useful repeater network.?

An interesting thing happened this morning...
In a short 15 minute window between 4:53 AM and 5:12 AM this morning I had four cars pass over the 66 bridge.
  1. Meshtastic 85Fc - !DA5685FC
  2. Meshtastic 3764 - !A78A3764
  3. Meshtastic? 2F78 - !F7027F78
  4. Meshtastic? 37BC - !A78A37BC

My node could see these cars nodes from the night stand on the bridge and because they were going over the lake with a more clear and distant horizon, I got to see other nodes in the area.? Was kinda cool and illustrated how mobile nodes help out.

Later in the day I went down to the waters edge and tried to see if I could get any nodes, but no.

Here's what it could look like from that church.
For the record I assumed the node on the church had a 5db antenna at the height of the top of the church and I assumed the receiving nodes are a 2db antenna at chest height.? Better antennas on home roof would get a better receiving propagation.? Trying to keep this to worst case for the end user.

Duh - Don't know why I didn't make a propagation map.
I don't think my pattern is this good though.? It doesn't appear to take into consideration obstructions by structures that play a limiting role.

Been here a week.? Things are kinda sparse.
For starters my location is sub par.? Ground floor condo at the base of a steep hill leading down to Lake Ray Hubbard just south of 66.? I do have a lake view towards Rockwall straight down 66 but the other condos wrap out an cut me off from the south east.? Limited window and I get nothing on it here at home base.

Here is about what I can "see" with my antenna.? I'm the dot in the middle with the triangle to the right of my position as my coverage.

There's a tall church across the lake that would make a great location.? I think it's First Baptist?? Maybe?

However, when I walk down to the waters edge I get YD01-YD Personal He's User ID: !8b909b5b right at 2.5 miles away and that link lets me see a few others.? Then driving around I pick up a few near Sachse.
Coming from Phoenix AZ we have much greater LoRa saturation.? There are some areas with no coverage at all but the high mountains give great coverage.? And those are accessible by trails that we are encouraged to hike and enjoy.? Out here I think your only real altitude for long range Mesh is Water Towers and Cell Towers, maybe a few high buildings but all three are hard to convince to let some stranger put a solar-node on.

Howdy Y'all!

I got my Lily-go T Echo flashed last night, and have 3 of the Wisblock starter kits waiting to ship from pre-order. Is there a particular channel we're using as I think I've seen in the Austin area, or just the default long fast?

Re: Show Your Mesh Nodes

Almost done wiring it up, should flash the firmware sometime this week.
