A new adventure begins...
With the city repairs nearing completion, the Company of Four takes on their next challenge. The distance from Ordulin to Yhaunn is less than 100 miles. You expect the journey to take about a tenday, and prepare the necessary provisions. You spend your final
evening in Ordulin with friends in the tavern saying your goodbyes, and receiving small gifts from admirers; flowers, notes, coins...?(A total of 72 gp, 44 sp)
North is given a crude Wand with a single Cone of Cold charge. The giver says it has been in his family for four generations and once saved his father¡¯s life.
Sweet William (if accepted) has his axe handle wrapped in the leather claimed to be of a young red dragon and therefore offering a Protection from Fire aura. The Tanner says he traded 30 beaver pelts and a silver dagger for the half-meter
strip of hide when the merchant proved it could not be burned.
And we¡¯ve already discussed Tabby¡¯s bracelet, but I¡¯m adding it here again for convenience. North was able to identify it as being magical. Each of the trinkets holds a single use spell, the same way scrolls are consumable.?Over the
winter months Tabby asks every Mage she meets to help her identify the spells. One is Darkness. One is Protection from Evil and Good. And the third is True Seeing. One offered you over 100gp for the bracelet, mainly for the True Seeing spell. You were also
able to get the Jet Gemstone enchanted with North¡¯s ¡®Fists and Feet of Fiery Fury¡¯ enchantment added to the bracelet. On a Critical Hit you add 1d6 fire damage per level.
. . .
Shortly before sunrise the following morning, you depart from Ordulin and start off toward Yhaunn. A surprisingly large crowd has gathered in the early hours at the East gate to cheer you on, tossing flowers and well wishing. The early morning
air is crisp but the sky is clear. As the sun rises ahead of you, you follow the High Road toward Clear Water Forest and the locally famous Clear Water Falls, a cascading rapids rumored to be protected by Dryads or other Fae beings.
The forest is mostly fir and aspen with small clusters of white birch along the roadway. It takes two hours to clear the forest, and by midmorning it is well behind you. Cresting a small rise an hour or so before noon, you see a group of workers
about a hundred yards or so up ahead. Using shovels and buckets and ox carts, they appear to be doing something to the next half-league of road.
As you approach, a pair of uniformed male elves step out from the shade of a large maple. They wear red silk sashes draped over their right shoulders and tied at the left hip. The taller of the two, a black haired, skinny fellow, moves to the
center of the road and holds up a palm, stating, ¡°Hail, and well met, journeymen. By proclamation of Lord Ashbury, Duke of Stillwater Ridge and Mayor Regent of Yuthgalaunt, we are authorized to collect a toll of six silvers per foot, per traveler.¡±
He looks briefly at Sweet William, overlooks North completely, and approaches Brother Ashley. ¡°Goodman,¡± he addresses the Cleric. ¡°The toll does not apply to you, but the others are required...¡±?
He pauses, having noticed Tabby.
¡°... to pay for the maintenance of the road,¡± he continues. ¡°The storms three weeks ago caused the Stillwater River to breach her levee.¡± He gestures toward the workers. ¡°It is now passable, but it¡¯ll be two more days labor at least before
it¡¯s safe. You aren¡¯t merchants?¡±
Ashley shakes his head ¡®no¡¯. ¡°We¡¯re travelers on our way to-¡°
¡°Travelers pay six silver per foot,¡± the Elf interrupts, turning to better examine Tabby. ¡°Twenty-four for this,¡± he states matter-of-factly, glancing briefly at the end of her arms. ¡°What is it?¡±
¡°She,¡± Brother Ashley retorts sternly, ¡°is called Tabby. And-¡°
The black haired Elf has turned his attention to his younger, ginger companion, who is attempting to explain.
¡°Tabaxi, sir. From the jungles of Maztica.¡±
¡°-she can speak for herself!¡± Brother Ashley finishes, exasperatedly.
The dark haired Elf turns back to Tabby, interest now expressed in his eyes. ¡°You can speak?¡± he asks with amazement. ¡°Common? And can you count? How many feet do you have?¡±
Before she can answer, he turns to Sweet William, and almost says something, but suddenly decides not to press his luck with the angry looking warrior. Clearing his throat, he turns back to Brother Ashley and says calmly, ¡°Thirty six silvers,
if you please.¡±
¡°Sir,¡± the redhead Elf interrupts. ¡°I believe these are-¡° he begins whispering to his commanding officer, glancing over the elder¡¯s shoulder to better glimpse Tabby.
¡°Well! Why didn¡¯t you say so?¡± he exclaims, suddenly, turning back to face the group. ¡°Is it you?¡± he asks. ¡°The Heroes of Ordulin? Deniers of the Arch Lich and his necromantic armies? I heard you leapt across the sky to knock him right off
his Dracolich.¡±
And what do you do?

¡°That¡¯s us, ye shriveled goat pizzle,¡± Sweet William growls, his horrible, fanged maw inches from the elf. ¡°Now apologize to Tabby or I¡¯ll pound ye flat!¡±

As Tabby gathered up the coins, she did not react to the toll-keeper who insulted her, "We did aid those in need against a bunch of rather unpleasant bullies. Bullies who had nothing of value to lose, while the good and very brave people of
Ordulin had everything to lose if their city fell.", she held out the twenty-four silvers and was ready to place them in the hand of the toll collector who asked for it.
"
Ordulin, along with those who had joined up to protect her, beat the stuffing out of those monsters and sent them fleeing into the woods. The evil ones thought it would be easy. They were wrong.", she made sure the man got his coins before adding. "We are now going to help some farmers do away with a nasty beast. If they are being bedeviled by a monster, they cannot grow their crops or raise cattle for the market, And we all need food to survive. So unless there is something else you require of, I believe my friends and I? will move on and no longer waste your time." Her tone was friendly but had a tinge of coldness she was trying to keep away.
She waited patiently for the approval to be given before they (hopefully) moved on.

As North is unnoticed?due to his strategic height, he will sneak by the pair and quietly continue down the road as the group has their interactions. However, he does provide one note of input which is realized through his casting of prestigitation to soil the pants of the loud mouthed elf.
"Something smells a little fishy around here..." he thinks to himself with a smirk.
- Prestidigitation This spell is a minor magical trick that novice spellcasters use for practice. You create one of the following magical Effects within range.
? You instantaneously clean or soil an object no larger than 1 cubic foot.

-North-?
One of the onlookers explains that the man with the black beard ¡®Durgo¡¯ was accused of eating the apple of the man with the brown ponytail ¡®Mischkar¡¯. Both men are well known in the village, having grown up here together and they¡¯ll fight about
anything and everything. Locals have long since given up betting on a victor. This is their 3rd altercation today.
-Tabby (and Ashley)-
The only tavern in town is the Common Public House, a large X shaped structure which also serves as the community center, council hall, taproom, inn, guild room, and indoor market.
Several smaller individual trading post structures are scattered around the small village, amongst the houses and hovels of the residents, but the Common Public House is center of community life.
The tavern area is dimly lit with small smoky beeswax candles on each table.
And what do you do?

The rest of the day is uneventful.? Toward evening, Brother Ashley is able to hunt shrub grouse for dinner, and the sky remains clear. Taking turns at watch allows the Cleric and Gnome to prepare their daily spells in the hour before dawn. A bit of cloud
cover rolls in mid morning, but no rains fall.
The road you travel, called Tildaryn¡¯s Ride, is nearly a straight line, over gentle rolling hills and through the occasional woodland. For the next two days, all goes as planned. The occasional merchant or Bard meets you on their way to Ordulin. They explain
the road is clear, through to Yuthgalaunt- the halfway town between Ordulin and Yhaunn...
. . .
By late afternoon of Day 5, you come upon indicators of Yuthgalaunt; ox plowed fields of outskirt farms with early spring shoots of grain ankle high, occasional smell of distant cooking smoke, and finally, a pair of farm hands mending fences.
The village of Yuthgalaunt is at a minor crossroads between Ordulin and Yhaunn east/west, and Chandler¡¯s Brooke running north/south from Bellbrookeshire Keep three leagues north and SpringHollow Grove to the south. SpringHollow Grove is a trapper community,
who trade pelts and leathers in Yuthgalaunt with passing merchants from the ¡®big cities¡±.
Bellbrookeshire Keep was a strategic military fort on the border between the hunting lands of Lord Hashting and Viscount Melloray, cousins who both fought over the area for decades. The Keep is virtually abandoned now, home to but a handful of ¡®Guards¡¯
loyal to Lord Hashting.?
You can expect to find a hot meal, bath, and low quality ale at the only Inn in the village; The Tipsy Traveler.
You arrive in the village a few hours before sunset, early evening, to a ruckus! A group of four men are in the road throwing punches at each other, and a few others are standing around watching, some laughing, some scowling...
And what do you do?

As Tabby gathered up the coins, she did not react to the toll-keeper who insulted her,
"We did aid those in need against a bunch of rather unpleasant bullies. Bullies who had nothing of value to lose, while the good and very brave people of Ordulin had everything to lose if their city fell.",
she held out the twenty-four silvers and was ready to place them in the hand of the toll collector who asked for it.
" Ordulin, along with those who had joined up to protect her, beat the stuffing out of those monsters and sent them fleeing into the woods. The evil ones thought it would be easy. They were wrong.", she made sure the man got his coins before adding.
"We are now going to help some farmers do away with a nasty beast. If they are being bedeviled by a monster, they cannot grow their crops or raise cattle for the market, And we all need food to survive. So unless there is something else you require of, I
believe my friends and I? will move on and no longer waste your time." Her tone was friendly but had a tinge of coldness she was trying to keep away.
She waited patiently for the approval to be given before they (hopefully) moved on.

? Happy days! There was a tavern of sorts that they could all go to and she could finally get off her feet. These little holes
in the walls always had good,
home-grown food. And North was getting evolved with the two idiots that were punching each
other in the face. Why? She gave him a dirty look but decided not to say anything. While she did not care to learn of their
backstory, it was still splashed all over her face. They were idiots. They liked punching each other in the face.
Why would
anyone want to do that to anyone else? Being punched in the face sucked! There were a lot of very important things, from
your eyes, ears, and nose, which should never be punched! And there they were, punching each other.
Ugh.
?
And while it popped up in her mind, North asked the question of the year.
Maybe they would enjoy other kinds of punches?
?
Thankfully that was the end of the gnome¡¯s interactions with Idiot Number
One and Idiot Number Two. It was finally time for the tavern! Hopefully, they had fish. She also rather liked Shepherd's pie. Her face drooped a little when the goat stew was
presented before her. She was never a fan of goat. Every year
Shadowdale had a fun little food and beverage event. Foods
and drinks were brought from all the lands and sold at cute little booths. There was always a
booth that had nothing but goat.
She had goat cheese before, but felt it was a
bit too 'goaty'. She had no room to complain. It was food, and it was fresh and it
was cheap. She did enjoy the mead. Was it honey mead?
?
While she would have preferred not to, the voices of the villagers all fell upon the group. Like the others, the 'strike tonight'
person caught her ears.
Were they going to strike someone or a place? She wondered if these workers who were demanding
higher pay from their bosses and were going to strike?? One
cannot assume the worse.
?
"Here you go Miss.", the little cat continued to try her best at being an adult. No more cute talk or squeaks when her voice got
high. She had to be direct. Polite, but direct.? She handed the coins over. The common room? Ugh.
They would be sharing their
room with strangers. She was not a fan, but it beat sleeping outside.
?
Sweet William was not a fan of bunk beds. She was not either. Someone was going to be very close to her when she slept.
Probably making all kinds of sleep noise.
?

OOC: Got that weird thing where an ... shows up in place of my post...weird..

¡°How much without the bunk?¡±?Sweet William asks.
¡°Um...¡± the girl stammers, glancing around nervously, as if she¡¯s never heard such a question before. ¡°...nine?¡± she replies softly, looking as if she might cry.
Then a warm smile as she accepts the coins from Tabby, with a ¡°Thank you, miss¡±.

The comment ¡®we strike tonight¡¯ was a pair of men walking past. You note that one was Human but the other was Half-Elven. They both wore short clean brown cloaks and
high black shiny boots.?
