December 2, 1954 Philadelphia Transportation Company purchased 90 used PCC cars from 2 midwestern cities to re-equip the 5 subway-surface car lines. Of these used PCC cars purchased, 50 were 1500-series prewar all-electrics from St. Louis and the other 40 were 725-series postwar all-electrics with full height windows from Kansas City.
