May 6, 1979 A new pick went into effect on New York's IND and BMT subway lines. The only major change was that the first 2 QB (Broadway-Brighton) trains from Coney Island run to Astoria and return as RR (Broadway-4th Avenue) trains to 36th Street and got out of service. The next to last QB train to Coney Island starts at Astoria. R-27/30s, R-32s, and R-38s were seen on the morning transfer runs. The only other change was that 6-car trains were removed from the GG (Crosstown local) but they had been removed earlier without official notice. But a month later, 6-car trains were returned to the GG due to car shortages caused by R-46 problems. On the IRT, R-36 cars 9494-9503 were returned from the 4 (Lexington-Woodlawn) to the 7 (Flushing) after being air conditioned and repainted at 239th Street Shops but still carried roll signs for the main IRT lines. These cars appeared briefly in 2/5 (White Plains Road) service before they entered the shops.? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
