Lynne, listowner of the DNA-Newbie group crafted the perfect email to tell you all what's going on and why you are getting an odd email from ��. I asked her permission to forward it to all my groups, and she has granted me permission to do so. If you have already deleted the email from ��, don't reply to this one; that will not work.

Instead, login to ��. You need not login to each group to which you belong; simply to to and either put in your password if you created one, or click "Send me a link" and when it arrives, click the link it sends you. As Lynne says, your login will count as confirmation. If you wish to leave, do nothing and you will be unsubscribed.

What a year 2020 has been!

Dearest fellow genealogists,

As I write, it's a quiet Christmas night, in a quiet, distant holiday season. I miss the noise and fun of being with family, but I'm so thankful to you, each of you, for joining with me in this quest we have to discover and recover families who are out of touch with ancestors and living cousins too.

Mastering Genealogical Proof by Thomas W. Jones was a Christmas present this year, and I was delighted to read on page one:

What is genealogy?

Genealogy is a research field concerned primarily with accurately reconstructing forgotten or unknown identities and relationships. Many of these relationships existed in the past, but genealogists' research also includes living people. Genealogy emphasizes biological and marital kinships, but also addresses adoptive, extramarital, and other kinds of relationships within and across generations.

There has much grief and loss this year and I'm afraid more lies ahead. However, I see many reasons to be hopeful and anticipate some great things in the future.

While exploring the first link, I found Genealogy Collection on Archive.org. What a treasure trove!

I promised to work on my husband's Daiber family, and I did find a LOT on MyHeritage and Chronicling America from The Library of Congress: https://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/ but what I found didn't help me find his family here in the US or in Germany - yet. This is someone's John Daiber/Dauber, Civil War soldier but I see no evidence that he's mine:

Anyone know more about this John and Catherine?

I did find out my husband's John Daiber's wife Catherine's surname, Kreeb. And she may connect to a German family on FamilySearch: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/9HMT-RB9. As always, more research needed.
