Hey all new to the group and looking for some help. My stepdad bought a set of 10's off a friend and has had them for 5 years. I've been bugging him for them for as long as he's had them and he findly decided? to give them up. Brought em home, pulled the grilles and was welcomed by a pair of radio shack drivers- perfect, just what I needed. Has anyone got a pair they want to sell and ship to Ontario? Please let me know,.

Sounds like a great deal! If you dig into it you should find that the DQ -10 woofer actually has a slightly longer voice coil and throw then the standard Advent. Along with a slightly larger surround to allow for this extra mojo. They look identical but aren't exactly. Plus the early production had CTS woofers.?
Just keep in mind that none of the above will provide a full solid bottom. So the addition of an LP1, outboard passive sealed subs, and another amp is the ticket. They are an entirety different beast once relieved of lower frequencies and dialed in. So perhaps try them with the RS drivers and see. With the LP1 they will mostly see reduced upper bass/lower midrange duty. Which the OEM woofers are oddly quite good at producing. I haven't tried the Advent but for the reduced duty I'd imagine they would also be great. Perhaps the RS's are as well. If they are older production they might be.?
Whatever you do make sure that when it's all said and done, that the boxes are completely sealed internally. With zero air leaks. The "duct seal" rolls in the electrical department at HD are ideal for hand rolling driver seals. Just make sure it's not out of date and already semi-hardened up when you buy it. It should be soft and have no crusty bits along the outside of the roll.?
Mine are about ready for new surrounds. I replaced them in 2014 and the foam is already turning to jelly. I recently managed to reglued a few spots that broke free and were puffing. But they are on borrowed time and are now on the todo list.?

Excellent information here. I have a single sub and crossover I'll be running with them. I tested them today and all works, they didn't sound bad with the rat shack speakers but with audio gear I'm a realist and try not to deviate away from what things were built with. If I can get my hands a pair of proper drivers that's always my first?choice.

In addition, the surround is glued to the top of the masonite, not the bottom. The second picture is the way they should be.

Yes, it may be an illusion. With speaker magnetic on the left side, front of speaker pointing to the right, the cross section of the surround will look like this ( ? ?and not typical.

Yep an illusion. It can be quite hard to tell sometimes especially in low resolution pics. But the surrounds are glued to the front side of the Masonite instead of the back. Which throws off the dead center spacing by the thickness of the outer ring.
