DQM-9C Tweeters
So I rescued a sadly abused pair of DQM-9C with dented/torn dust covers, no grill covers, and gouged cabinets. I had them in my workshop for a little while, but they just sounded awful, no top end from either tweeter (yea I checked the fuses). I pulled and desoldered them and both are dead measuring infinite resistance. So I did a little digging and these Magnet tweeters are different than my DQM-9’s MHTL-24G tweeter, as these are 8 ohm not 6.8 ohm. I think they may be a variant of the MHTL-26 series but it’s moot as there are no replacement tweeters out there, and no, Regnar lists none for any DQM Series.?
So, I have a few choices.?
- adapt another 8 ohm/90 dB tweeter
- Use a cheap Chinese silk 1” diaphragm kit and try to repair them?
- Find some working tweeters cheap
- Toss em and start over.?
Anyone have any experience with tweeter alternatives and/or tweeter repair kits? Or other ideas? These speakers are pretty rough and not worthy of living room habitation, but I love my 9s and want a pair out in the workshop. I currently have a pair of DQM-5s out there now, wonderful speakers, but they just don’t push enough air for that big of a space.?
