On Behalf Of Robert Keegan via groups.io ? Hi George, I too have a pair of these. Mine were done by Beatty Stereo in the 90's, and I am sold on what they've done. It is the perfect tweeter for the dq's. I did a few things to the crossover to make things better, and I just cant believe my ears. I highly recommend this mod.? |

Re: Height Placement of DQ10s
开云体育John, sorry for the delayed response. So good to hear from you. I hope you and your mother had a good Christmas under the circumstances.I looked at the readings and they look improved and very good indeed. Were these taken with the mic locate approximately mid way between the speakers? How far was it away from a plane between them? If you did take the measurements with the mic in a single central position that is OK. it just appears the it was 2.4 inches further from one speaker than the other. Let me know if this might have been the case. Otherwise no worries.? How does the system sound now? Due to the unusual design of the DQ10 for the best possible imaging it is important that your head be equally distant for each speaker with a tolerance of 1/2” ( 10mm). With the DQ10 it is also very important the toe in be set such that a plane midway between the cone and dome midrange and perpendicular to the woofer baffle passes directly through your ear for the corresponding side. For example the left speaker radiation plane passes through the left ear.? Cheers and best wishes, |
Re: Full metal basket Advent woofer time alignment in DQ-10
I am sending another photo of the full metal basket woofer contained in the original New Advent Loudspeaker brochure. In this photo you can see even better that the cone is further back than the cone of the Masonite woofer used in the DQ-10.?So the full metal basket woofer must be mounted in the DQ-10 with a shim that moves the woofer forward. In this way you can align the emission center of the full metal basket woofer with respect to the other transducers.

Re: Height Placement of DQ10s
Hello Charlie &
Happy New Year! How are you and how are things? I’m John Boros, from near Niagara Falls, in Canada. Nothing much to report here, every day is mostly the same, looking after my mother. I did, however, make the resistor changes, Charlie, late last summer, but, only took a reading, yesterday and likely did it wrong, but, would like to share it with you, get your sage feedback, if and when you have time. So, how about you, any new projects you’re working on? Again, hope all is well and thanks, John |
Amp replacement on Dahlquist PDQ1200 subwoofer
Does anyone have experience or recommendations on replacing the amplifier on a Dahlquist PDQ1200 subwoofer?
Mine is at a shop in Nashville and they are asking $350 to replace the amp, which they say cannot be repaired. I am hesitant to pay for repairs as I only paid $125 for the sub to begin with. I actually have/had a pair of them connected to my home theater (for which I use DQM-9's as the mains). I would buy another PQD1200 used if I could find one. There is a PDQ1500 for sale on eBay, which I have considered, but not sure of the mismatch with it and my current PDQ1200. Does anyone have a recommendation for an amp for this model sub? Since it apparently cannot be re-built, it would have to be an aftermarket amp and not sure how that would affect the sound, which I like, even though these were not of the original Dahlquist line. Thanks! |
Re: Not related to Dahlquist, but I respect the group members thoughts
I'd be curious to see what the Adcom (try to avoid the temptation to get rid of an amp like that; definitely the best incarnation of the GFA-555 series) would do powering the DQ-10s, and then drive the sub (or subs; you used both singular and plural in your latest message) with the remaining DH500. I had a DH500 powering DQ-10s for a while, and it did a good job, but I never liked the residual fan noise in my room setup. I moved to Bryston (passively cooled) and never looked back.

As for integrating a music library on NAS, it's not the least expensive option, as it does require an ongoing subscription, but I've been very happy with Roon. I use a Wiim Pro as my Roon endpoint, and my iPhone as the remote (Android devices are supported as Roon remotes as well). The Wiim Pro has an internal DAC with analog (RCA) outputs, as well as USB output, which should interface with your AV receiver, or an outboard DAC if you prefer.
