Re: Greetings! New Member and DQ-10 Owner
Yup. One purple for piezo . Not sure it makes sense to do anything with that circuit as I¡¯ve never detected any sound from them even running bink cd with freq clips of 16khz 18khz etc. I even replace them thinking they were bad! No change. I did recap that circuit but alas no change. The clarity caps and mills resistors are pricy. I think about 225-250 but they did tame the bright grating sound in the mid and hi frequency range. It¡¯s worth it if you want to keep them for yrs to come On Wed, May 20, 2020 at 8:28 PM <pcb121055@...> wrote: Wow!? That's a lot of blue :) |
Clarity xo caps
I have an extra set of clarity caps new for upgrading the xo and a printout of the direction to upgrade the entire dq10 speaker which is in the files.I used a Dayton audio 50+30 to equal the 80uf for woofer. Space on board is limited and most 80¡¯s are very big. This fits offset to side. Make an offer?

Re: Greetings! New Member and DQ-10 Owner
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIf you make a list with the asking price, I (or others on this distribution) might be interested in purchasing your extras as one lot. I¡¯ve been doing a lot of crossover work lately - I wouldn¡¯t mind having some parts inventory.?BTW... ?very clean looking job on the crossover rebuild. It can be challenging to fit the larger capacitors into an existing crossover. On my -12s, I had to shoehorn in the Regnar caps. I got the caps to fit but was not pleased with the results - it¡¯s fully functional but looks cobbled together. ?I wish I had done what you did and redesign the board layout without changing the circuit logic.? DQ-10 Original Grill Cloth
FYI...
On the Portland CL, there is a guy posting for grill cloth. I reached out to him as I was looking for material to recover my DQ-12s. It turns out he has a batch of original DQ-10 grill cloth? he obtained years ago from the NW Dahlquist rep.? I passed on it, it wasn't what I needed for my 12s, but thought someone mihght be interested. I've never met this guy before, but I have bought from him in the past. All my dealings have been positive. Here is the CL link if anyone is interested. Pic 9 shows the grill cloth. https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ele/d/new-and-used-audio-video-equipment/7107851523.html |
DQM9 vs DQM9C
Hi? all,
Always appreciate the wisdom and experience in this group. I may have the chance to acquire a pair of DQM9s. Already am fortunate to have a pair of 9Cs. Has anyone ever done a side-by-side comparison, and is it worth the upgrade? Also, does anyone know what the going price is for a pair of 9s with recently rebuilt woofer, so-so cosmetics/missing grills? Thanks for your thoughts, and stay safe! |
Re: speaker cable
Lamp cord isn't suitable for pulling through holes in studs.? The insulation is much too soft and it will get damaged. ? On Fri, May 8, 2020 at 3:12 PM Ian Hamilton via <ianhamilton=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: speaker cable
I too am a cable skeptic. I'm a retired EE and I've got a pair of DQ-10 biamped with a pair of DQ-1W subs. Active Dahlquist LP-1 crossover. I'm running a pair of fully rebuilt Phase Linear 700B amps that have the White Oak driver boards. The only thing that's original in the amplifiers are the transformer, chassis, and meters. The amps have been measured at a little over 500 watts RMS per channel and the system sounds glorious.
I use a 14 gauge extension cord that's stranded copper. My run is about 20 feet on one channel, maybe 10 on the other. It sounds and works great. Here is a paper written by Roger Russell, former chief engineer at MacIntosh laboratories. He goes into great detail about this subject, it's a must read for anyone serious about tone. Hope this helps, enjoy your music! |
