Do the 10's accept banana plugs?? Is there any modification needed?

Re: speaker cable

Would try to keep speaker wires away from power wires?
I am also a cable skeptic but round wire with enough flexibility e.g . stranded is probably good just from EE thinking.? Also tough enough insulation that when you yank it through hole in stud you don’t strip any of it.? Might avoid cable staples and use rounded hold downs.? If you’re in the walls anyway, maybe run a dedicated twenty amp twelve gauge power line too? Inductance from coiling excess wire might have more affect than extra straight wire. Assume if you are doing this 12 gauge stranded is the way you're going. DQ-10 banana jacks seem to be standard size and spacing (that is, my banana plugs are standard molded plastic with metal connectors, one body). Obviously individual banana plugs are fine too, just be sure nothing behind the speaker could knock one individual plug in to another and short the amp.

The DQ-10s accept banana plugs... either single or double, such as:

<https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BNA100--hosa-bna-100>

or

-ND/603378>.

No modifications are necessary.

Speaker wire is, in my opinion, largely a matter of faith and personal
taste, so long as the conductors are large enough not to have
significant aggregate series resistance.? I am dubious when it comes to
many claims about speaker wire.? I know that some others feel
differently, and swear by the allegedly awesome audio qualities of
speaker cables made with exotic materials and exotic construction
techniques.? When it comes to such claims, color me highly skeptical.

Re: speaker cable

Yes the DQ-10's accept banana plugs.? About running speaker cable in walls.? Although walls are not generally plenum spaces many jurisdictions still require plenum rated cable.? Best to check with your local building department first or just use CL2 Rated speaker wire because it's made for the purpose and not really anymore expensive.? Monoprice has #12 which is what I used to wire my living room for 5.1 with.

If you have a long cable run (+20 feet) I suggest the 12 guage OFC stranded copper cable.

Greetings,

Many times they can be resoldered to the circuit board. As they do tend to fracture off the board over time. Or you can replace them with modern Tiffany style jacks. Which is not exactly easy and a royal pita but can be done. Either works wonders and the oem's are decent unless they are worn out.?

Hi, Roy,

I’m planning on doing this, myself. To replace the rca jacks, you need to remove the grills and then you need to carefully remove the 10” woofers in order to gain access.

Hope this helps and good luck,

John

Re: Hi-Vi DMB-A questions...DQ-10

My DQ10 previous owner swapped out the tweeter and super tweeter for a T_127A made by KEF and also redid the crossovers. In addition he added a 3/4 inch thick Mdf front on the woofer box to tighten the bass. Sounds unreal compared to my Maggies.

Re: Newbie needs help

Unless they are faulty the yellow caps are already well into the diminishing side of the equation.?

Caps are like choosing ice cream flavors. Back during the R&D the developers already played out that Russian roulette game. At least with what was available at the time. If your going to step into that arena then drop a thousand or so on caps and get to slinging. Otherwise you have zero basis to base future outcomes off of. View marketing, advertising, and even cost as practically meaningless. My advise is to visit the capacitor shootout site pages. And even that will only allow you to choke down the selection somewhat without actually using your own ears. Just consider that the existing caps have been painstakingly hand matched sonically for those coils. And even drivers, etc. In this case reinventing the wheel is never easy.?

The best move which is difficult is to always resist mods. And change whatever else until they start sounding better. And better and better. They are rather selective to all upstream gear. Assuming they don't have bad solder joints, etc you will find that they will respond.

At least then you end up knowing what the oem is capable of. And end up with a real launching point for further developments. With the 10's?you should be so overwhelmed?that you loose the desire to chase sparklie rabbits. Then like a magic lantern after a good massaging, find that the genie is finally broke loose. The genie really is already in there somewhere. And she isn't clamoring for a new wardrobe...

But either road provides plenty of entertainment. But your sonic results may vary.
