Everybody Missed It: Bombshell Huckabee
Announcement - SCOTUS Case Could Flip 2020, Boot Biden, Harris
?By Randy DeSoto? ? ?? January 2, 2023 at 2:00pm
Former Arkansas governor and Republican presidential candidate
Mike Huckabee published a piece recently calling attention to the
case Brunson v. Adams set to be heard before the U.S. Supreme
Court this week.
What the plaintiff/appellant, Raland Brunson of Ogden, Utah, and
his three brothers seek is nothing less than the removal of
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris from office,
arguing members of Congress failed to fulfill their constitutional
duty on Jan. 6, 2021 by not reviewing allegations of fraud in the
2020 presidential election.
“Sit down; I guarantee this Supreme Court story is real,” Huckabee
wrote.
“The Supreme Court has agreed to a hearing for a case that could
conceivably — PLEASE consider this the longest of long shots —
overturn the election of 2020, throw out all the legislators who
voted to certify the results and leave them ineligible to run for
office ever again, even for town dogcatcher,” he explained.
The case is set for oral argument on Friday, Jan. 6, the second
anniversary of the Capitol incursion.
Trending:??? Founding Drummer of Rock Band Dead at 45: 'He Laid
Down to Rest and Simply Faded Out'
The argument the Brunson brothers make in their lawsuit is that
388 lawmakers named in their court filing took an oath to support
and defend the U.S. Constitution “against all enemies, foreign and
domestic.”
Yet, they “purposely thwarted all efforts to investigate
[allegations of fraud in the 2020 election], whereupon this enemy
was not checked or investigated, therefore the Respondents adhered
to this enemy.”
The Brunsons recounted in their petition to the Supreme Court, “On
January 6, 2021, the 117th Congress held a proceeding and debate
in Washington DC (“Proceeding”). This Proceeding was for the
purpose of counting votes under the 2020 Presidential election for
the President and Vice President of the United States under
Amendment XII.”
“During this Proceeding over 100 members of U.S. Congress claimed
factual evidence that the said election was rigged. The refusal of
the Respondents to investigate this congressional claim (the
enemy) is an act of treason and fraud by Respondents,” the
brothers continued.
“A successfully rigged election has the same end result as an act
of war; to place into power whom the victor wants, which in this
case is Biden, who, if not stopped immediately, will continue to
destroy the fundamental freedoms of Brunson and all U.S. Citizens
and courts of law.”
So the Brunsons are targeting the process itself that took place
during the certifying of the election on Jan. 6, 2021, not trying
to prove the election was rigged or stolen.
Huckabee noted: “The argument in this case is that by not looking
into serious allegations of election fraud, those who voted to
confirm the results of the 2020 election broke their oath of
office and are ineligible to run for any elected office again. To
give you an idea of the scope of the potential fallout, Kamala
Harris is in that group, and so is Mike Pence.”
In a commentary piece last month, Tim Canova — a constitutional
law scholar and professor at Nova Southeastern University’蝉
Shepard Broad College of Law in Florida — offered his assessment
as to why the Supreme Court took up the case, which had been
dismissed at the federal district court level in February without
doing to trial.
“It seems astounding that the Court would wade into such waters
two years to the day after the Congressional vote to install Joe
Biden as President. But these are not normal times,” Canova wrote.
Related:??? As Special Grand Jury Probe Into Trump and 2020
Election Closes, We Could Face an 'Epic' Moment in History
He pointed to the criminal referral by the Jan. 6 committee for
President Donald Trump and the FBI’蝉 collusion with Twitter and
Facebook to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story during the 2020
election, in violation of the First Amendment, as examples of the
unusual season the country is passing through.
“Supreme Court Justices may well see these approaching storm
clouds and conclude that the Court’蝉 intervention is necessary to
prevent larger civil unrest resulting from constitutional
violations that are undermining public trust and confidence in the
outcomes of both the 2020 and 2022 elections,” Canova contended.
Huckabee tempered expectations about what the Supreme Court might
actually rule in the case, questioning if they would truly
overturn the 2020 election.
“Even if a majority of the Justices found merit in this case,
would they be willing to do something this huge?”
Huckabee concluded, “But you know the saying, if something sounds
too good to be true, it probably is.”
Wishing you a wonderful
year ahead.? I hope 2023 brings you good health, good fortune,

A FAVORITE CHRISTMAS STORY
Because of Love
A brother and sister had made their usual hurried,
obligatory pre- Christmas visit to the little farm where
dwelt their elderly parents with their small herd of horses.
The farm was where they had grown up and had been named Lone
Pine Farm because of the huge pine, which topped the hill
behind the farm. Through the years the tree had become a
talisman to the old man and his wife, and a landmark in the
countryside. The young siblings had fond memories of their
childhood here, but the city hustle and bustle added more
excitement to their lives, and called them away to a
different life.
The old folks no longer showed their horses, for the years
had taken their toll, and getting out to the barn on those
frosty mornings was getting harder, but it gave them a
reason to get up in the mornings and a reason to live. They
sold a few foals each year, and the horses were their reason
for joy in the morning and contentment at day's end.
Angry, as they prepared to leave, the young couple
confronted the old folks "Why do you not at least dispose of
The Old One." She is no longer of use to you. It's been
years since you've had foals from her. You should cut
corners and save so you can have more for yourselves. How
can this old worn out horse bring you anything but expense
and work? Why do you keep her anyway?"
The old man looked down at his worn boots, holes in the
toes, scuffed at the barn floor and replied, " Yes, I could
use a pair of new boots.
His arm slid defensively about the Old One's neck as he drew
her near with gentle caressing he rubbed her softly behind
her ears. He replied softly, "We keep her because of love.
Nothing else, just love."
Baffled and irritated, the young folks wished the old man
and his wife a Merry Christmas and headed back toward the
city as darkness stole through the valley.
The old couple shook their heads in sorrow that it had not
been a happy visit. A tear fell upon their cheeks. How is it
that these young folks do not understand the peace of the
love that filled their hearts?
So it was, that because of the unhappy leave-taking, no one
noticed the insulation smoldering on the frayed wires in the
old barn. None saw the first spark fall. None but the "Old
One".
In a matter of minutes, the whole barn was ablaze and the
hungry flames were licking at the loft full of hay. With a
cry of horror and despair, the old man shouted to his wife
to call for help as he raced to the barn to save their
beloved horses. But the flames were roaring now, and the
blazing heat drove him back. He sank sobbing to the ground,
helpless before the fire's fury. His wife back from calling
for help cradled him in her arms, clinging to each other,
they wept at their loss.
By the time the fire department arrived, only smoking,
glowing ruins were left, and the old man and his wife,
exhausted from their grief, huddled together before the
barn. They were speechless as they rose from the cold snow
covered ground. They nodded thanks to the firemen as there
was nothing anyone could do now. The old man turned to his
wife, resting her white head upon his shoulders as his
shaking old hands clumsily dried her tears with a frayed red
bandana. Brokenly he whispered, "We have lost much, but God
has spared our home on this eve of Christmas. Let us gather
strength and climb the hill to the old pine where we have
sought comfort in times of despair. We will look down upon
our home and give thanks to God that it has been spared and
pray for our beloved most precious gifts that have been
taken from us.
And so, he took her by the hand and slowly helped her up the
snowy hill as he brushed aside his own tears with the back
of his old and withered hand.
The journey up the hill was hard for their old bodies in the
steep snow. As they stepped over the little knoll at the
crest of the hill, they paused to rest, looking up to the
top of the hill the old couple gasped and fell to their
knees in amazement at the incredible beauty before them.
Seemingly, every glorious, brilliant star in the heavens was
caught up in the glittering, snow-frosted branches of their
beloved pine, and it was aglow with heavenly candles. And
poised on its top most bough, a crystal crescent moon
glistened like spun glass. Never had a mere mortal created a
Christmas tree such as this. They were breathless as the old
man held his wife tighter in his arms.
Suddenly, the old man gave a cry of wonder and incredible
joy. Amazed and mystified, he took his wife by the hand and
pulled her forward. There, beneath the tree, in resplendent
glory, a mist hovering over and glowing in the darkness was
their Christmas gift. Shadows glistening in the night light.
Bedded down about the "Old One" close to the trunk of the
tree, was the entire herd, safe.
At the first hint of smoke, she had pushed the door ajar
with her muzzle and had led the horses through it. Slowly
and with great dignity, never looking back, she had led them
up the hill, stepping cautiously through the snow. The foals
were frightened and dashed about. The skittish yearlings
looked back at the crackling, hungry flames, and tucked
their tails under them as they licked their lips and hopped
like rabbits. The mares that were in foal with a new year's
crop of babies, pressed uneasily against the "Old One" as
she moved calmly up the hill and to safety beneath the pine.
And now she lay among them and gazed at the faces of the old
man and his wife.
?
Those she loved she had not disappointed. Her body was
brittle with years, tired from the climb, but the golden
eyes were filled with devotion as she offered her gift---
Because of love. Only Because of love.
Tears flowed as the old couple shouted their praise and
joy... And again the peace of love filled their hearts.
This is a true story.

Kurt "CyberGuy"
Knutsson shows you the top 10 most effective
tips for Google searches.
There are secrets that the most proficient
Googlers tap into when they search.? While most others
are left in the dust still combing through the myriad of
search results, knowing these??will make
all the difference in getting what you really want.
When trying to??to a
specific question, we are overloaded with thousands of
results.? It can be overwhelming and lead you astray
until you know how to search on Google using any of
these effective tips.? Here are 10 of the best Google
search secrets I've put to good use.
Google has denied
that it manipulates search results.??(iStock)
1. Use the tabs Google provides
Notice
that when you perform a search on Google, it provides
you with various tabs once you press Enter. It gives you
options to??It
even includes a "More" tab which provides you with other
search options such as Videos, Books, and Flights.
Depending on what you're looking for, these tabs can
help you cut your search time in half and give you the
specific results that you need.

2. Search with quotes
If
you're asking a super specific question or looking for a
particular term, it might be beneficial for you to type
what you're looking for in quotation marks before
pressing Enter. When you attempt to search for a term
like a water bottle with filter and you don't include
quotes, Google is going to search for anything that
includes those four words.

Google search for a water bottle with a filter
without quotation marks in the search bar.?(Fox News)
But if
you put?"water bottle with filter"?in
quotes, Google will then know to search for that
specific term and therefore give you what you're looking
for.

3. Use a colon to search specific
sites
Sometimes
when searching, you might be looking for information
from a specific website. For example, if you're looking
for information on??player Aaron
Judge, simply googling his name is going to bring up
tons of articles from all different websites on the
athlete.

But if
you specifically want to look at articles only from the

published on him.

4. Use the asterisk wildcard
This is
an especially helpful tip if you're trying to look up
the name of??that you can't think
of the name of. Using an asterisk in a Google search
will leave a placeholder in your search that can be
automatically filled by the search engine later on. For
example, if you try Googling the words "o * can you *,
Google can fill in those words and give you the results
for the Star Spangled Banner.

5. Search for sites that are similar
to other sites
Many
people have websites that are their "go-to" when they
want to buy something, but searching on the same site
all the time can get a bit boring. If you want to
broaden your horizons and explore other websites but are
not sure how you can simply ask Google to give you sites
that are related to your favorite site. For example, if
you search 'related: cvs.com',
then Google will give you other website options that are?

6. Use + or - in your search
Using a
+ or - sign in your search will help add or omit details
and get you closer to what you're looking for. For
example, if you want to??brand but don't
want to use Crest, you can search?toothpaste -crest?and
Google will give you a variety of other toothpaste
brands.

give you exactly that.

7. Use Advanced Google Search
You can

that you can get as specific as possible. Just type in?advanced search?into

8. Set time restraints
When

10. Search for specific file types
If
you're looking for a document in a specific file type

'Sad
cat’ named Ellie surrendered by owner because animal 'wanted
to cuddle,' then goes viral
Viral
tweet said this cat is a 'love bug' and 'did nothing to
deserve this'
By??
Elie, a??in Virginia, went
viral on Twitter for her "sad" life story.?
"Y'all. This is the saddest thing I've ever
seen," wrote Twitter user @revengegrill on Dec. 12.
"This cat was returned to the shelter because she wanted
to cuddle her owners at night." (See the tweet lower
down in this article.)
The
tweet included an image of Ellie, as well as her
information sheet.?
?
In the
cat's "voice," the sheet says, "I was returned because I
wanted to sleep with my human at night and I wasn't
allowed to, so I would cry outside the bedroom door."?
The
tweet was retweeted over 10,000 times and received more
than 71,000 likes in just three days.?

wrote a Twitter user.?(Meow

The
Twitter user then followed up her tweet by saying that
Ellie was at the??PetSmart location and that
the cat "was literally such a love bug and did nothing
to deserve this."?
The
information sheet notes that Ellie is four years old,
has been spayed and has received all her shots.
Kate
Balow, owner of Meow Stories Central VA Cat Rescue, is
facilitating Ellie's adoption.
She
told Fox News Digital in a phone interview that Ellie's
viral fame has resulted in about 25 applications to
adopt the hard-luck kitty.
She was
scheduled to meet potential adopters on Friday, Dec. 16,
Balow said, noting she feels confident that Ellie will
be going home with one of them.?
"She's
a really pretty little black-and-white female," said
Balow. "She's super friendly."
Ellie
originally came to Meow Stories after a??was too crowded to
accept her, Balow also said.?

Last
August she was adopted, but her adopter then??with someone who had a
cat allergy, she continued.
Ellie
was thus banned from the couple's bedroom — something
that made her very upset, Balow also said.
So
Ellie came back to Meow Stories.
Balow's
organization does not have a physical shelter. Instead,
it facilitates adoptions with the help of foster
families, said Balow.
The
group also has a partnership with a local PetSmart to
showcase available felines.
Ellie, pictured

described as "super friendly" and "really pretty."
As of Friday, she already had some potential
adopters show interest in her.??(Meow Stories)
Ellie
was left at the local PetSmart with very little notice,
said Balow.
"And so
[the former owner] called us and we agreed to take her
back. We always take our cats back," she said. ?
"And, I
mean, the story is really sad because he [the previous
owner] couldn't even be bothered to wait for my husband
to get to the PetSmart store," Balow recounted.
"He
literally ran over there with her in her carrier and
left her there with the PetSmart employees until my
husband got there."
A sweet cat
called Ellie is pictured here. The cat was left at
the local PetSmart with very little notice, said
Kate Balow of Meow Stories.??(Meow Stories)
Meow
Stories' website describes the organization as a
"nonprofit, all-volunteer, foster-based cat rescue" that
was founded in 2009.
"Meow
Stories specializes in cats and kittens coming from
underserved rural shelters across Virginia mainly below
the I-64 corridor and private rescuers in these areas as
well as several rural shelters" in West Virginia, North
Carolina and Tennessee, the site notes.?
For
Balow, it's all about finding the perfect homes for
needy cats.
"We are
a small, efficient rescue. We don't do a lot of
advertising or marketing," she said. "I'm not about my
ego."
While potential
adopters may desire tabbies, Balow said it's more
important to ensure that personalities and
lifestyles of both cat and owner are a match.??(iStock)
Her
organization facilitates about 1,000 adoptions per year,
with cats coming in from surrounding states as well as
from all over the world, she said.?
Recently,
she received a number of cats from a rescuer in Kuwait,
she added.
Running
her organization with??means that most of the cats
are adopted within two weeks, said Balow.?
Ellie
herself was surrendered about a week before she achieved
viral fame on Twitter. ?
To
prevent future situations such as Ellie's, Balow advises
that potential cat adopters focus more on the
personality of their future cat, rather than specific
characteristics such as fur length, breed or color.?
"Never,
never go by the looks of the cat" when choosing a furry
friend, she said.?
Potential cat
adopters should think "long and hard" about the
personality they want and what fits into their
lifestyle, said Kate Balow, owner of Meow Stories
Central VA Cat Rescue.?(iStock)
She
continued,"Personality-wise, some people prefer more
independent cats. Some people prefer more cuddly cats. A
lot of people get stuck on, ‘Oh, it has to be an orange
tabby’ or ‘Oh, it has to be a long hair.’"
She
also said, "And you really should think long and hard
about the personality that you want, what fits into your
lifestyle," she said.
As for
Balow herself?
She has
a soft spot for cats with special needs.?
"I know
there's a lot of people that go by breeds. I like the
‘imperfectly perfect’ ones," she said.?
Ellie was adopted
over the weekend, Fox News Digital learned late
Sunday.?

Beware of scams on Facebook
Facebook can be a wonderful place
full of opportunities to learn new things, share the
special moments in your life and reconnect with old
friends. But there is also a dark side to this popular
social media platform: It can be a hotbed for Facebook
scams, fraud,?.
“Users should approach all social
media interactions [on Facebook], whether it is a post, a
tweet or a direct message, with a healthy dose of
skepticism,” says Eva Velasquez, CEO and president of
Identity Theft Resource Center. “Content is not
necessarily vetted, and with the number of social media
account takeovers on the rise, you cannot be certain you
are interacting with someone you actually know.”
With more and more Facebook scams
being exposed every day, each new scam is more clever and
less detectable than the last. Below, experts share their
top online security tips to avoid these nefarious and
sometimes quite believable??on
Facebook. As a rule of thumb, remember to do your own
research, never click on suspicious links and distrust
sites asking you to enter personal information—it’蝉 one of
the ways social media accounts get hacked. Still got
hacked? Here is how to?.

Fake medical fundraisers
Unfortunately, scammers will
often exploit sad stories like a heartbreaking diagnosis
or life-threatening disease for their own benefit. They
may send messages or create posts on Facebook pretending
to be people diagnosed with cancer or recovering from a
horrible car accident and ask for help with medical bills.
In a similar?,
fraudsters are claiming to have been stranded, infected or
otherwise impaired by the virus and need financial
support.
Preying on people’蝉 sympathy and
kindness, these con artists will request donations to a
GoFundMe webpage or through a third-party app like Venmo
or CashApp. The pleas are often sent from copycat Facebook
accounts (with real photos and stolen information), which
disappear entirely once the money is transferred. Keep in
mind that your money isn’t protected if you use a
third-party app to donate to a fake fundraiser, which is
why?,??and??are
so common.
Clickbait scams
One of the newer Facebook scams
is known as the “like-farming” or clickbait scam.
According to the Better Business Bureau, fraudsters will
create posts that are meant to elicit some sort of strong
emotional reaction. One method is through offering a
tempting sale or promotion on products if the user “likes,
comments and shares,” while others aim to get users to
share the post as many times as possible through
heart-warming pictures or faux-activism posts.
The associated links could
potentially put malware on your computer or require
personal information (sometimes including credit card or
social security numbers) to claim a prize. If a post
requires extensive sharing or personal information, it’蝉
best to be wary and check the original source for
legitimacy. Facebook scams are sneakier than you might
think—this??is just one
example.

Giveaway scams
Free iPad giveaway? Sign me up!
But wait—before you click that sweepstakes link, ask
yourself whether it seems real. In this?, many fraudsters create fake
giveaways to fool users into sharing personal information
like a credit card number or clicking a link that could??or computers.
That said, there are legitimate
sweepstakes, raffles and giveaways. “But there’蝉 usually
an end goal there,” Velasquez says. Most companies are
hoping that the promise of a free iPad (or flight or
jewelry) will entice you enough to, say, sign up for a
newsletter or buy a product.
In these cases, before you give
any personal information to a company, weigh the chances
of winning with what you’ll lose once the company knows
your email address or phone number. If the company doesn’t
store your information securely, hackers could gain access
to it and use it for fraud or sell it on the Dark Web.
Facebook quiz scams
Your friend just found out what
’80s pop star is their spirit animal, and now you can’t
wait to find out yours. Don’t let your curiosity get the
better of you, though. Some Facebook quizzes will ask for
access to your profile, and others will even go a step
further by throwing trick questions into the quiz itself,
says Adam Levin, founder of global identity protection and
data risk services firm CyberScout and author of?Swiped.
Questions like “What’蝉 your
mother’蝉 maiden name?” are “purely to gather information
because … they could be the answers to security questions”
to recover your password, he says. Once hackers have this
information, they can use Facebook’蝉 password recovery
process to log in to your Facebook account.
It’蝉 best to avoid these quizzes
altogether. But if you do want to take a quiz on Facebook,
stick to the sites you know and trust, and create fake
answers for password recovery questions so they’re hard to
crack, says Levin. It might be easy enough for Facebook
scams to figure out your mother’蝉 maiden name, so leave an
easy-to-remember lie instead. You might be surprised by??or?.

Cloned accounts
Be skeptical if you receive a
friend request from someone you could have sworn already
had a Facebook page. Sure, some people like to clean house
by ditching their old profiles, but other friend requests
aren’t so innocent. Scammers will clone a person’蝉 entire
Facebook profile, creating a fake profile of a real
person.
From there, they can search the
original user’蝉 friends list and send their contacts a
link for a get-rich-quick scheme or a cute quote. It’蝉 the
kind of thing you’d ignore from an anonymous email
message, but not from a loyal friend. “They’re banking on
the fact that you will trust the message,” says Levin. The
problem is, clicking that link could download malware to
your computer.
Before you accept a weird friend
request, shoot over a text or call the person to confirm
it’蝉 not a fake account. Learning??can also protect your
contacts if you fall victim to this scam in the future.
Spoofing attacks
Even if you haven’t received a
new request, don’t immediately trust a message from a
friend you can’t see face-to-face. Hackers can find a
person’蝉 password and break into their account, then send??messages
or posts to their friends asking them for money or other
gifts. The messages are designed to tap into your
emotions, causing you to panic and send the money without
fully thinking it through.
In addition to using a friend’蝉
profile to carry out a spoofing attack, scammers might
impersonate famous people or organizations too. For
example, there are dozens of accounts posing as Facebook
CEO Mark Zuckerberg, sending users messages with claims
that they’ve won money in a “Facebook lottery” and need to
send gift cards to claim their winnings. Once they receive
the gift cards, the fraudsters disappear.

A NICE DAY PHOTO/SHUTTERSTOCK
Spam messages
With “cloning” of social media
profiles on the rise, it makes sense to be aware that it
might happen to you too. But don’t believe friends
automatically. Reportedly, the same exact message has been
sent to countless Facebook users, directly from another
friend, but it’蝉 a hoax: “Hi … I actually got another
friend request from you yesterday … which I ignored so you
may want to check your account. Hold your finger on the
message until the forward button appears … then hit
forward and all the people you want to forward too … I had
to do the people individually. Good Luck!”
While forwarding the message
won’t spread malware, it does mean you’re unnecessarily
spamming the inbox of everyone you know. Instead, search
your own name for an identical account to yours, and ask
friends if they’ve had any fishy requests from you. Report
the fake profile if the warning is legitimate and ignore
the message if there doesn’t seem to be a threat.
Fake coupon codes
Liking a store’蝉 or restaurant’蝉
fan page—or even keeping an eye on the ads—can be a great
way to stay in the loop when there’蝉 a sale or discounted
offering. (But if you don’t love them, find out?.) If a post shows a promo code and it
works, lucky you! You just saved some cash. But be
skeptical if you need to give personal information or
create an account to unlock the savings. In some Facebook
scams, a site poses as a real store but is looking to
convince you to share your email address (which can be
used in?) or
other personal information like your credit card number or
SSN, putting you at risk of?.
You can avoid these scams by
doing your own research on the sale or advertisement.
“Open a new browser tab and Google” the store’蝉 official
website, says Velasquez. “Go to the source and see what’蝉
going on.” If there’蝉 a genuine promotion, you can bet the
store’蝉 official site will let you know.

Facebook Messenger scams
To protect yourself from?,
it’蝉 important to stay vigilant against their common
tactics. Scammers will often use Facebook Messenger to
send users requests for money or fake offers for loans or
lotteries. While these messages take many different forms,
they all have one thing in common: Fraudsters are preying
on our needs or desires to appear generous, be a hero or
win money, among others.
If you did not initiate contact
with the person who is messaging you—whether it is a
friend or a stranger—Velasquez recommends going directly
to the source. “People often trust DMs from their contacts
because of that connection,” Velasquez says. “However,
social media account takeover is so common that we advise
people to verify who they are talking to through a
different channel, particularly if the message is asking
for help, money or information, or it’蝉 from a contact you
have not interacted with directly before.”
Phony fundraisers
Particularly after a major
tragedy, you’ll see plenty of ads and posts from charities
offering to help the victims. While some of those
fundraisers really will go to the people who need the
support, others could just be scammers preying on your
caring spirit, says Levin.
, mass shootings or other tragedies
are typically after your personal information or money.
Clicking a link from those schemers could put malware on
your computer—or worse, your money won’t go to victims of
the tragedy, but straight in the pocket of a crook.
To keep your money safe, do a
Google search of the site instead of clicking the Facebook
post link, says Levin. Visit a site like??or?,
which both rate nonprofits on how helpful they really are.
Seek out a trusted charity instead of donating to the
first you see advertised.

Malware attacks
If a friend tags you and a
handful of other friends in a Facebook post, your first
instinct might be to click the link, even if the video
looks suspicious. But don’t be sure that it really was
your friend who tagged you—a hacker might have gotten into
their account instead.
More than likely, the link sent
by the hacker will send you to a site that asks you to
download a Flash player update. You click the link, which
immediately starts to download malicious software called??to
your computer.
In another version of a malware
attack, a hacker might use your friend’蝉 account to leave
you a message warning “OMG look what they’re saying about
you” and prompt you to click the link to find out what’蝉
going on. “It’蝉 really about engaging your curiosity and
getting your curious nature to say ‘I want to know,'” says
Velasquez.
But don’t click! A vague message
(such as “Did you see this picture of you?”) is suspect,
and clicking it could download malware, says Velasquez. If
you do click a suspicious link, watch out for the?.
Romance scams
Think twice before accepting
friend requests from people you don’t know—it could be the
first step to falling for a?. The interactions start
out innocently enough: The stranger on the other end is
just looking for friends and starts opening up, and the
two of you swap personal stories. Soon, you feel like
“real” friends, and there even seems to be a romantic
spark.
In reality, this is one of the
tricks con artists use to win your trust before scamming
you. When they ask you for money or other gifts, you jump
at the chance to help this close friend. But the other
person has been lying the whole time, working to gain your
trust. Now that they have it, they’ll claim they need
money for a made-up emergency that keeps snowballing and
eventually drains your bank account dry, according to the
Australian Competition & Consumer Commission.
Job scams
As more and more people embrace
the “working from home” lifestyle, scammers are keener—and
more well positioned—than ever before to profit off the
hype. One way they attempt to sway you is by offering
too-good-to-be-true jobs and salaries that would allow
users to make an unbelievable amount of money from home.
They collect vital data from the users (sometimes
including bank account statements, records and social
security numbers) and then resell it to the highest bidder
on the Dark Web.
In other iterations, the scam
takes on the role of a pyramid-like scheme in which the
user must first send in money or buy products to reach
their “inevitable fortunes.” It’蝉 best to do a little
research into the company and not click on any offers that
seem unrealistic.
Fraudulent apps
Beware of advertisements for apps
or features on Facebook that claim to allow users to?. Facebook has (and shares) a ton of your
data, so it would make sense that it also would open the
door to let you see who’蝉 been clicking your profile. But
that’蝉 one line that Facebook won’t cross, according to
its official stance. Even third-party apps don’t have the
ability to track who’蝉 been looking at you. If you do see
an app or feature that claims it can reveal who’蝉 been
watching you, you can report it as a fraud through
Facebook’蝉 website or the Apple or Google app stores.

Secret Santa scams
At first, it sounds like a great
idea: Some stranger is setting up a “Secret Santa,” where
you send one person a $10 gift, and three other people
will send you one too. But like those old snail mail
lottery ticket chains, there’蝉 no guarantee you’ll get
your money back in these Facebook scams. If no one else
follows through sending your gift, you might not get
anything in return. Even worse? “You just gave your home
address to a stranger with a list of stuff you like,” says
Velasquez. “Is the return really worth the investment?”
Bad actors could use your home address to carry out?, and
sharing other personal information could reveal the
answers to your password security questions, leaving your
account vulnerable to hackers.
Phishing attacks
If you receive a direct message
or email from Facebook saying your account is being
disabled, take a close look at the sender. Fraudsters are
impersonating Facebook in??designed
to steal your information or sneak malicious software
(like??or
ransomware) onto your computer. The phony messages will
include a fake link to recover your account, and the page
it sends you to will ask for your login information and
potentially other personal data. Never click a link
without confirming if it’蝉 true, or you could end up with
malware or give away your data by answering the questions.
Instead, log in to your account directly through your
browser to verify the message.

Facebook Marketplace scams
More than a billion users buy and
sell goods on Facebook Marketplace each month—but
fraudsters are also using this online shopping platform to
steal people’蝉 money. Some Facebook Marketplace scammers
may ask you to pay or communicate outside of Facebook,
while others might list phony rentals, giveaways or other
products. Learn how to spot the red flags of these??before you go shopping on the
platform.
How to avoid Facebook scams
Don’t click on any suspicious links. Short links or
sensational-sounding videos are red flags for scam
posts, according to the Better Business Bureau.
If you receive a notification that your account might
be deleted or was hacked, log in directly through your
browser rather than through the link provided in the
message or email.
Review your account’蝉 privacy settings regularly, and
adjust them to protect your information from people who
are not connected to you. Velasquez also recommends
reading Facebook’蝉 privacy policies and terms and
conditions to understand how your information and data
are being used.
Create a??and set up??on your account. Don’t
share the authentication code with anyone.
If you receive an odd or unusual message from a friend
through Facebook, get in touch with them outside of
Facebook to confirm that the message is real.
Be on the lookout for strange typos or wording
signaling the scammer may not actually be who they say
they are.
Never share personal information like your social
security number or credit card info through Facebook
Messenger or any other Facebook platforms.
Delete friend requests from people you don’t know.
