DXKeeper 1.2.2 is available
This release corrects the "lookup last log entry" defect reported below, and restores input focus to the QSO Capture Callsign textbox after a lookup operation. If you've already installed DXKeeper 1.1.1 or later, you can upgrade to version 1.2.2 by downloading and then running http://www.qsl.net/dxkeeper/DXKeeper122Update.exe . If you haven't yet installed DXKeeper, a full install is available via http://www.qsl.net/dxkeeper/download.htm . 73, Dave, AA6YQ -----Original Message----- From: Dave, AA6YQ [mailto:dhb@...] Sent: Saturday, April 07, 2001 17:34 PM To: dxlab@... Subject: [dxlab] DXKeeper, PropView, and DXView The "lookup last log entry" blemish is fixed, and clicking Lookup (in the Capture window) now restores input focus to the Callsign textbox. If nothing else shows up for a few hours, I'll release these in DXKeeper 1.2.2 tonight. I'd like to release PropView 1.0.3 and DXView 1.2.7 (with the working title bar clock) to a larger audience, probably via announcement to several DX and propagation reflectors. Any comment on the recent Vertical Time Bar change before I reduce flexibility by adding users? 73, Dave, AA6YQ -----Original Message----- From: Richard B Drake [mailto:rich@...] Sent: Saturday, April 07, 2001 16:10 PM To: Dxlab Subject: [dxlab] DXKeeper 121 Dave, I have used V121 this afternoon to log several contacts and it seems to be working well now. One thing that seems strange is that after logging a contact it picks up the callsign of the previous contact and puts it into DXView. Not a big deal it just seems odd. I am also appreciating the contest fields this afternoon. When I am serious about a contest, I will set up WriteLog which is specifically designed for contesting and has many special contesting features. But if I am just dabbling with a contest such as this weekends SPDX contest (i.e. if I hear an SP calling CQ contest, I'll call him and give him a contact) the additional contest fields and keeping track of sequence number are very nice. ----- 73, Rich - W3ZJ www.w3zj.com Yahoo! PropView 1.0.4 is available
In this release, the mouse cursor changes to a left-right positioning icon when it passes over the Vertical Time Bar, as Rich suggested below. If you already have PropView 1.0.1 installed, you can upgrade by downloading and running www.qsl.net/propview/PropView104Update.exe -- it will update your online help and install PropView104.exe, which you can then run. If you haven't yet installed PropView, a full install is available via www.qsl.net/propview/download.htm , 73, Dave, AA6YQ -----Original Message----- From: Richard B Drake [mailto:rich@...] Sent: Saturday, April 07, 2001 17:48 PM To: dxlab@... Subject: RE: [dxlab] DXKeeper, PropView, and DXView Dave, Yes, I tried the Vertical Time Bar in PathView and like it very much. Now the functionality is very intuitive. One little enhancement might make it even better, have the cursor change when it passes over the time bar to let you know when you are on it and also give a clue that you can probably drag it around. Bye the way thanks for pointing me to the N6RT propagation site. That's terrific and it was really interesting watching the dynamic X-RAY flux displays during yesterdays solar flare. It corresponded exactly with what was happening on the HF bands. A complete shut down of HF propagation with an X5 level flare and gradual return of propagation over the next couple of hours as the X-RAY flux dropped off to the C level. Amazing!! ---- 73, Rich - W3ZJ

DXView 1.2.7 is available
This release corrects the regression noted below. If you've already installed DXView, you can upgrade by downloading http://www.qsl.net/dxview/DXView127Update.exe - store it in your DXView folder and execute it; you can then run the extracted DXView127.exe . If you've not installed DXView, a full install is available via http://www.qsl.net/dxview/download.htm . 73, Dave, AA6YQ -----Original Message----- From: Dave Bernstein [mailto:dhb@...] Sent: Saturday, April 07, 2001 1:48 AM To: dxlab@... Subject: [dxlab] DXView 1.2.6 regression The title bar UTC clock does not function in this release -- I disabled it while debugging something, forgot to restore it, and failed to notice its condition during pre-release testing. I'll correct it in the next release. Any comments on the proposal to create an alternative DXView window that consumes less screen space by presenting less information and by displaying a smaller map? What fields should be retained in this window? 73, Dave, AA6YQ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: dxlab-unsubscribe@... Your use of Yahoo! PropView 1.0.4 is available for beta test
2
PropView uses the IonCAP propagation prediction engine to forecast the minimum and maximum useable frequencies between two locations over a specified 24 hour period. Results are rendered in an easy-to-understand color-graphic display. Locations can be specified via direct latitude/longitude entry. Alternatively, PropView interoperates with DXView to allow location selection by entering a DXCC prefix, or by selecting locations on a world map; this interoperation requires DXView version 1.2.7. PropView requires a PC running Windows 9X, 2000, NT, or XP with an SVGA or better display. This application is free, and contains no advertising. Commercial use is expressly forbidden. PropView is available for download via www.qsl.net/propview ;IonCAP installation is included in the process. For a sample screenshot, see http://www.qsl.net/propview/propview.jpg . To peruse the online help, see http://www.qsl.net/propview/Help/index.htm . DXView, given a callsign, callsign fragment, or prefix, determines the associated DXCC entity, reporting its location and beam heading from your QTH. DXView presents a world map, upon which beam headings, stations you spot, the sun's position, and the solar terminator are continuously displayed. DXView can also display country maps for more than 250 DXCC entities. DXView supports M2, Hygain DCU-compatible (with or without Rotor-EZ), and Yaesu PC-controlled rotator controllers, allowing you to select a short-path or long-path heading with one mouse click. PropView and DXView are members of the DXLab Suite, described at www.qsl.net/dxlab . Other released members of this suite include Pathfinder, CI-V Commander, and WinWarbler; more are planned and in progress. If you are interested in evaluating development releases and guiding their evolution, consider joining the DXLab reflector via http://www.qsl.net/dxlab/reflector.htm . 73, Dave, AA6YQ

Okay sorry for the dumb question.... I cannot program in my longitude / latitude. The help file tells me to enter 00 '00 N (or whatever) but DXVIEW does not allow me to enter the ' character. I can enter 00.00 but it will not let me enter a N,S,E, or W. Andy KB2EOQ

DXKeeper 122
4
Dave, I have occasionally experienced a problem with DXKeeper hanging up on me, it seems to get stuck in an infinite loop. It took me a while to figure out how to reproduce it, but here it is. If I enter a call in the capture window and press enter to do the look up, then later without clearing the capture window I go back and make a correction to the callsign and press enter again, everything seems fine but when I go to log that QSO, DXKeeper is hung up. ----- 73, Rich - W3ZJ www.w3zj.com

DXView 1.2.8

Starting DXView 1.2.8 while DXKeeper is already running fails to establish communications between the two. One has to shut down DXKeeper and restart it to establish the connection. ----- 73, Rich - W3ZJ www.w3zj.com

Icom RS232 interface from KG7SG
4
I am running CI-V Commander version 1.2.2 using the KG7SG interface I just made. I am able to control the ICOM 746 via the computer but I am not able to receive any data from the radio. I have double checked all wiring and software and radio config settings with no luck. I am still suspicious that it is in the wiring but I am hoping that it is something simple in the software or at the radio that I may have overlooked. Suggestions from any is gratefully welcomed Thank you 73 de KB2VNB

DXKeeper 1.2.3 is available
10
This release - properly saves the state of "Show Control Explanations" between sessions - includes instrumentation to detect the "persistent hourglass" defect (please be on the lookout for an error log) - automatically restarts the inter-application communication link with DXView, should it terminate - adds the option of specifying a UTC filter based on start date and end date (settings can be adjusted by depressing the control key while clicking the UTC filter button) If you've already installed DXKeeper 1.1.1 or later, you can upgrade to version 1.2.3 by downloading and then running http://www.qsl.net/dxkeeper/DXKeeper123Update.exe ; your online help will be updated by this process. 73, Dave, AA6YQ

Export
3
Dave, I notice that when you export log entries to an existing ADIF file that you append the entries instead of overwriting the old file. Since I use this feature mostly to add new entries to eQSL.cc this is not what I want. How about making append/replace optional? ----- 73, Rich - W3ZJ www.w3zj.com

Mouse wheel
2
An interesting feature that was just added to WriteLog, is mouse wheel tuning of the radio - pretty slick. How about CI-V commander? I think 10Hz a click would be good, just right for a little fine tuning. ----- 73, Rich - W3ZJ www.w3zj.com

DXKeeper 1.2.4 is available
This release - correctly updates the progess table when QSOs are logged from the Capture window - contains more instrumentation aimed at isolating the "persistent hourglass" problem - if you export to an existing file, gives you the option of clearing the file's contents before the exported records are written - has improved export performance (~3000 QSOs per minute on this 300 mhz machine) If you've already installed DXKeeper 1.1.1 or later, you can upgrade to version 1.2.4 by downloading and then running http://www.qsl.net/dxkeeper/DXKeeper124Update.exe 73, Dave, AA6YQ

DXKeeper 1.2.4
Dave, I have been running V 1.2.4 most of the day and so far I have been unable to break it. I created a new error log before installing it and so far it's empty. Looking good :-) ----- 73, Rich - W3ZJ www.w3zj.com
