Making QSL Cards
w6ids
I need to ask this of the group..........even if it is a "DUH" question, well......
maybe a couple of them............ I don't quite understand the use of the substitution commands as described below from the Help File: "By using substitution commands in the QSL Information fields, you can establish one QSL card style that will correctly print QSL cards for QSOs made from a variety of locations. Each substitution command found in a QSL Information field is replaced by the appropriate information for the QTH from which the current QSO was made, as shown in the following table:" <rig> <streetaddress> <iota> etc etc etc It's not clear to me where the substitution commands are inserted into the QSL card. Are they used in the field(s) for the QSO information line in some fashion? Also, between the QSO information line and the lower left and right lines of text there's going to be a fair amount of empty space. I don't believe I'd have multiple lines of QSO information as shown in the QSL examples. Is there some way to insert a logo or other type of artwork to sort of dress up the card? Or do I initially have to first print the artwork on the card stock and THEN go to DXKeeper to print the QSL card itself? Do any of you use pictures for the QSL card; your stations, etc?? Many Thanks.... Howard W6IDS Richmond, IN |
Referring to the "QSL Cards" tab on the QSL Configuration window,
you can place substitution commands in any of four places: 1. in the 4 textboxes in the "Upper Left Text" panel 2. in the 4 textboxes in the "Upper Right Text" panel 3. in the textbox in the "Lower Left Text" panel 4. in the textbox in the "Lower Right Text" panel Take a look at the sample QSL card in This was generated with the "Upper Left Text" panel containing <city> <state> <country> and the "Upper Right Text" panel containing <grid> <latitude>, <longitude> <iota> DXKeeper currently provides no means of printing a picture or graphic on a generated QSL card. I tried adding this capability awhile back, but couldn't make it look "right" when textual QSL information overlapped the image. I'll return to this at some point; until then, you'll have to start with cards that already contain the desired image. 73, Dave, AA6YQ --- In dxlab@..., "w6ids" <w6ids@...> wrote: question, well......described belowcan establish one QSL card style that will correctly print QSL cardsfor QSOs made from a variety of locations. I generate mine in a "2-pass" process. First I print the cards from

DXKeeper with the QSO info, then I print a graphic in the open center part of the card that I created with a graphics program. It turns out OK. 73, Ken KC9GLQ Indianapolis -----Original Message-----

Well, I sure appreciate the input from everyone. I'll play around with your own

technique and see how it develops. May I ask what graphic program are you using to make this happen? Just curious......... I'm interested in inserting a logo for the 10-10 Club, HFPACK, and a couple of other things maybe from time to time. Howard W6IDS Richmond, IN ----- Original Message -----

Sure, Howard. I used "Paint Shop Pro" to put together the image, and then I

use a labelling program, "DesignPro", to actually put the image on the cards. It enables me to precisely put the image in the blank space of the card, and print the desired number of cards. I'll send you a pdf of the image I use. Ken KC9GLQ -----Original Message-----
