DX View Not Following MYQTH

I have set myQTH and saved it to my workspace.? After shutting everything down and restarting with the correct workspace DX Keeper shows myQTH correctly.? The problem is DXView shows a different Latitude and Longitude for my QTH therefore making the headings 20 degrees different than they should be.? The displayed Latitude is off by ~ 9 degrees and the display Longitude off by ~2.5 degrees.? Even taking into consideration true North the headings are still incorrect.? E.g. the BA5 region of China is 0 degrees true North of my QTH yet DX View shows it at 340 degrees which is close to the heading for JA.

I have probably missed something,? How can this be fixed?

Thanks for outstanding SW.

+ On the General tab of DXView's Configuration window, specify your latitude and longitude in the QTH panel. Then terminate DXView and direct the Launcher to update your Workspace with DXView's settings.

Hi Dave,

That doesn't work.?
1st iteration:
I changed the Lat & Long closed the DXV configurator.? Open the configurator and confirmed that the changes were still present.? Terminated DXV then saved DXV settings to workspace.? Terminated DXLab launcher. ?Started Launcher started DXV, loaded settings from workspace; old setting still present.

2nd iteration:
I changed the Lat & Long closed the DXV configurator.? Open the configurator and confirmed that the changes were still present.? Terminated DXV then saved DXV settings to workspace.? Then saved all DXLab App settings to workspace.? Terminated DXLab launcher.? Started Launcher started DXV, loaded settings from workspace; old setting still present.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

+ You can only save an application's settings to a Workspace when that application is not running.

+ You can only load an application's settings from a Workspace when that application is not running. Please try these three tests:

?

+ Test #1

1. start DXView
2. set your QTH latitude and longitude
3. terminate DXView
4. start DXView

+ Are the QTH latitude and longitude settings correct?

?

+ Test #2

1. start DXView
2. set your QTH latitude and longitude
3. terminate DXView
4. direct the Launcher to save DXView's settings to your Workspace
5. start DXView

+ Are the QTH latitude and longitude settings correct?

?

+ Test #3

1. terminate DXView
2. direct the Launcher to load DXView's settings from your Workspace
3. start DXView

+ Are the QTH latitude and longitude settings correct?

Hi Dave,

I know about having to terminate all applications.? You couldn't save it otherwise.? I already documented the three tests in last post.

Test 1 - Yes
Test 2 - No
Test 3 - No

All the DXLab applications are the latest release.

Thanks,
Art

+ OK. So that I can see what's going on, please do the following

1. start DXView
2. on the Configuration window's General tab, check the "Log debugging info" box
3. terminate DXView
4. start DXView
5. set your QTH latitude and longitude
6. terminate DXView
7. direct the Launcher to save DXView's settings to your Workspace
8. start DXView
9. on the Configuration window's General tab, uncheck the "Log debugging info" box
10. attach the errorlog.txt file from your DXView folder to an email message, and send the message to me via

+ Ultimately, I had to review DXView's source code to remember how this works: unlike most DXLab application settings, the Latitude and Longitude in the QTH panel on the Configuration window's General tab are only saved to the Windows Registry when you click that panel's Save button, which is at the panel's extreme right.

+ Why? It's occasionally helpful to set DXView's QTH to a location other than your own, either to see what signal paths look like from a DX station's perspective, or to help a friend who lives in another part of your country with a propagation forecast. You can type in a different latitude and longitude, or you can click on the desired location on DXView's World Map and then click the QTH panel's Position button. When you're done with this exercise, you can restore your saved QTH by clicking the QTH panel's Recall button.

+This is described in the Reference documentation

+ but I've added a "Specifying Your QTH's Location" section to

+ to reduce the probability that someone else will fall into this hole.

+ Many thanks to Art VE3CT for patiently working through this with me.
