Commander won't start all of a sudden

 

After using the suite for a few years, Commander would not start this morning via Launcher and the Commander icon is now simple and white and doesn't point to anything.

I keep Windows 10 fully updated and am concerning Windows is the problem somehow.

The Commander shortcut target indicates "C:\DXlAB\COMMANDER\C-IV COMMANDER.EXE" but that file does not exist in the folder. There are a series of files similar to CI-V COMMANDER1440 (latest?) with different numbers at the end. When I click on it Commander opens but does not pick up frequency until I click on one of my presets.

Can I reinstall just commander or do I have to reinstall the whole suite? If I have to reinstall the whole suite, what files do I need to save to keep all my settings?

That procedure will work but it can be dangerous. If you allow ANYTHING in that folder to be considered safe there is no guarantee that some tricky malware will not put itself in that folder.

It is safer BUT CAN BE A PAIN to individually allow any executable to marked safe rather than the whole folder.

I realize it can be a pain but not much of a pain. Every new install should ask you if it should be considered safe if defender thinks it may not be. I am not sure about other malware programs but they should.

Launcher announced updates for DXK and CMD.? I successfully DXK but I can't update CMD.? I get a Upgrade Status window which
says; " can't Upgrade Commander - C\DXLab\Commander\CI-V Commander.exe does not exist; Update aborted"

I am not using an Icom radio.? But apparently, after thousands of flawless updates, Dave's code has been proved to be imperfect, Hi!

No big deal, I'm sure the sun will come up tomorrow.

PS So for today I will try tou use N1MM+ as a general logger.
 

When I turned on the PC this morning, Windows 10 Defender announced I had a virus.? Windows Defender opened and I removed it.? Then Windows wanted me to back-up my PC to a Microsoft One Drive.? I considered it, as opening an account was free.? Thought I had a account, it thought I had an account, I even started to create a new account but since it wasn't working I just shut down the PC and started it back up.? The PC was acting normal so I re-open my station, PstRotator, DAX & CAT for my Flex, RealVNC so I can see and control my RF-Kit B26 RF-2K+ amplifier, ...

That's when I got around to opening DXLab.

This glitch has something to do with Windows Defender and that .exe file.
I tried using N1MM+ QSO Party log, worked SQ8LUU and Logger wasn't excepting any exchange info.
So tried DXLab again.? Window Defender flagged the CI-V .exe file and I told Windows Defender to Allow it.
Still no joy.? Terminated all DXLab apps, clicked Config and tried to update CMD again.? No Joy.

OK, fixed it.

The CI-V .exe file , I had removed it.? I Restored it.
Opened DXLab and updated CMD.

All is well.

I had the same problem with Norton antivirus (supplied by Comcast, my ISP). ?Just as with MS Defender, I found that if I put in exclusions for each of the DXLab executables, I no longer had the problem. ?It takes a bit of work, but it's worth it.

I also experienced a problem this morning when I cut on my computer and started up the suite.? Commander was gone and would not start. After looking I found Windows Defender on Windows 10 had moved commander to quarantine.? I restored it and all is well again.
 

You have too exclude the c:\DXLABS from being scanned. Windows Security | Virus & Threat Protection | Manage Settings |? Add a Exclusion, then do the upgrade again. It took a while for me to find this, hope it helps.
