For some reason the version of Commander I have been using for several years got corrupted + What led you to conclude that your Commander installation was corrupted? so I deleted it+ I hope you mean that you directed Windows to "uninstall" it. Deleting a DXLab installation generally leads to the situation where the application cannot be "uninstalled" because you deleted the file that Windows needs to "uninstall" it, at which point your only alternative (other than re-installing Windows) is running a Registry Cleaner application - which may or may not solve the problem, but may also create new problems that are worse than what you were previously confronting. and downloaded the current version. ?Much to my surprise, the Radio Tab does not contain an entry for a K3, only a K2. ?Am I missing something here?+ Yes. Unable to open Com4That is a Windows error message that says either COM4 does not exist (install the driver, if you are using a USB to serial adapter or the Elecraft KIO3B - I/O board with built-in USB to serial adapter) or another program is already using that port (COM4). Joe, I tried that and it didn't help. ?Let me add some background. ?I have been running this exact set-up for several years on a remote basis. ?Using the RRC system with my K3 at the remote site and the K3 mini at the control site. ?I've never had a problem and have not changed any settings. ?I can control the KPA-500 and KAT- 500 fine, even right now. ?The band change functions work and I can even key the transmitter from the control site. ?But, when I use the K3 utility at the remote site to check the status, it shows that no ports are open, which is certainly consistent with what Commander is showing. ?So obviously something has happened to the link between the PC and radio. ?Any thoughts? ?And as I said, I haven't changed any cables in a long time (that would be too easy of a solution!).

Further, I don't know if you have a K3 with RS-232 interface, an "upgraded" K3 with KIO3B (USB) interface, or a K3s since you have not made that clear. However, if the K3 Utility sows that no ports are available, it can be one of several things: 1) with RS-232 the cables are disconnected, 2) the serial port driver (USB or RS-232) is not installed of functioning, 3) the K3/K3S KIO3/KIO3B board has suffered a failure, 4) you are trying to access the radio via the RRC system and its serial drivers are bad of not installed, 5) your RRC network connection has failed (or is being blocked by a firewall). Since you're running a remote system, you're on your own! Strip it down to the base "one radio, one computer at the same location" and start from there. 73, ... Joe, The configuration is a K3 with the RS232 connection to the PC.
?
Following your suggestion, I stripped the station down to just the K3 and PC. ?The only connections are the K3 to the RS232, the computer to the internet, and an antenna connected.
?
When I try to load the Commander App, I get a message "Commander will Terminate" and it does. ?Sometimes I get a brief glimpse of the Commander configuration screen... for about 1 second.
?
And by the way the K3 utility does show the K3 connecting to the computer.

+ Is this a new installation of Commander? The "Commander will Terminate" message means that Commander was unable to install a component on which it relies; this? cryptic error message is improved in the next version. To enable Commander to install the component, 1. terminate Commander 2. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to your Commander folder 3. Right-click the entry for CI-V Commander.exe ?
and then select "Run as administrator" from the pop-up menu. Commander should start without complaint.? ? 4. Terminate Commander + You should now be able to start Commander normally - without administrative privileges. ? ? ? 73, ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?Dave, AA6YQ ? |
I get a message "Commander will Terminate" and it does. What is the error message before "Commander will Terminate"? Is the K3 Utility running when you get "Commander will Terminate"? If so, stop it - only one application can communicate with the K3 at a time. Is there an "errorlog.txt" file in in the Commander directory? If so, send it direct to AA6YQ as documented in: <> 73, ... That fixed the problem and Commander starts up fine. However, the frequency indicator shows all 0's, which means that while the K3 on Port 5 is apparently communicating with Commander, the frequency is not being passed. + Is "Port 5" the COM port to which your K3 is connected? + If so, is Commander configured to communicate with your K3 via COM5? + What leads to conclude that " Port 5 is apparently communicating with Commander"? - does Commander track your K3's frequency? - can Commander set your K3's frequency? - does Commander track your K3's mode? - can Commander set your K3's mode? - can Commander switch your K3 between RX an TX? 73, Dave, AA6YQ |
