Band spread

Hi Dave,

Currently my bandspread will highlight anything I need on RTTY.? I don't use RTTY anymore and primarily use FT8 as my digital mode.? Is there a way to get the bandspread to only highlight needed countries for digi instead?? That way if I've worked a needed country on FT8 it would no longer be highlighted if it's spotted as RTTY which frequently happens with spots that are actually FT8 stations.

Clear as mud?? :)

Thanks

+ If you only want to remove the callsigns of active stations using RTTY from Commander's Bandspread window, the click the Edit button in the "Spot Filter" sub-panel in the "DX Spots" panel on the Bandspread tab of Commander's Configuration window. In the "Commander User-defined SpotCollector filters" window, define entry whose Caption is

NoRTTY

+ and whose SQL is

Mode <> 'RTTY'

+ Then close the "Commander User-defined SpotCollector filters" window, and set the "Spot Filter sub-panel to "NoRTTY".

+ Note that active stations operating in RTTY will still appear in SpotCollector's Spot Database Display and on DXView's World Map. To remove them too, click the Mode button in the Filter panel at the bottom of SpotCollector's Main window and uncheck the "Mode Filter" window's RTTY box, and uncheck the RTTY box in the "Mode Filter" panel on the "Plot Settings" tab of DXView's Configuration window.

Don,

Are you using a filter in Commander -> Config -> BandSpread -> Spot
Filter? If so, which filter and what is in it?

I'd bet you have defined one that specifies Mode='RTTY' ... you will
want to change that to something that better reflects the modes you
are using.

Hi Dave & Joe,

To answer Joe, I have SC Filter selected and nothing is in it.

I think what I wanted to try was unclear.? I'll try to describe it better.? It's not that I don't want to see the spots that come in as RTTY.? What I see happening is spots that come in as RTTY are treated differently than all other Digital mode spots.? I'm not sure if this is by design or not.? So frequently what happens is someone will spot a station as RTTY even though it was actually a FT8 QSO on say 14.074.? So in my case it will get flagged red because I haven't worked it on RTTY.? I would still like to see the spot but not have it flagged red (new band/country) if I've already worked it on one of the other digital modes on that band.

Basically I guess I'm asking if all digital mode spots (RTTY, FT8, FT4, etc) could be treated as if they were one mode in the bandspread or spot collector since most digital awards now accept all of them under the same banner.? Perhaps this can be done with a prefilter or something?? ie, turn on a filter that treats all digial mode spots as one type so it won't get flagged red (new band/country) if it's been worked on any digital mode.

To answer Joe, I have SC Filter selected and nothing is in it.

I think what I wanted to try was unclear. I'll try to describe it better. It's not that I don't want to see the spots that come in as RTTY. What I see happening is spots that come in as RTTY are treated differently than all other Digital mode spots.

+ That's not correct. For DXCC awards, RTTY is one of multiple digital modes that count towards DXCC Digi awards.

So frequently what happens is someone will spot a station as RTTY even though it was actually a FT8 QSO on say 14.074. So in my case it will get flagged red because I haven't worked it on RTTY.

+ The next time you see a Spot Database Entry that is colored as "needed" and you don't understand why, you can obtain an explanation by right-clicking it and selecting "Display award progress for... " from the pop-up menu.

73,

Dave, AA6YQ

Hi Dave,

I realize that.? But it's being flagged red even though I've already worked it on one of the other digital modes.? This isn't happening in reverse.? I've seen spots for FT8 stations that I have worked on RTTY in the past but not on FT8 and they are not being flagged red so it must be detecting them as already worked.? However if a spot comes in as RTTY and I have worked it on FT8 it is still being flagged as red because it's RTTY.? I'm only seeing this with RTTY spots.

I'll do what you suggest and "check the award progress for" to see if that gives me a clue as to what's happening.? It's probably something I have turned on that is making it flag an RTTY spot as needed even if I've already worked it on one of the other digi modes.

Perhaps another example...
I worked VK9XU on 20M FT8.? Any future spots for VK9XU on 20 that come through as FT8 or FT4 are black.? But if someone mistakenly spots VK9XU as an RTTY station it's showing up in red.

I'll let you know if the "Display award progress for..." reveals anything.

Thanks for the help

AHA!? OK, I think I have it.

I just had a great example.? 2 spots for VK9XU on 28.095.? One is black and one is red.? the black one is FT8 and the red one is RTTY
When I check the award status the RTTY is red because it's a needed ZONE for RTTY on 10.
When I check the award status for the FT8 it shows as digital is confirmed on Zone 29.

So for WAZ purposes there is a difference between RTTY and all the other digital modes.

This has been bugging me for ages.? Now I know why!? It never occured to me it was the WAZ status that was causing this.? I always assumed it was the DXCC status.

Thanks for the tip on the award status.? I didn't know I could pull that menu up.? Very cool.

+ There's a field in the Spot Database Display named Needed that uses single letter abbreviations to indicate why a SpotDatabase Entry is considered "needed":

+ If you make the Needed column visible in the Spot Database Display and can remember the abbreviations, you'll be able to immediately see why a Spot Database Entry is considered Needed without having to right-click and select "Display Award Progress for ...".

+ Your VK9XU RTTY Spot Database Entry has a Z in its Needed field.
