Log on two PC's??
pcooper
Hello all,
I know this has been asked before, but I can't find the email I wanted in the files. What I would like is to be able to access my log file from another PC. I have DXK installed (and launcher) on that PC, and for now, I have just copied the GU0SUP.MDB file to that PC. This appears to show the log OK, but I wonder if there is an automated way to achieve this? I currently have DXK backing up to a different hard drive, but (as yet) that drive is not shared. Also, the backup file is not named GU0SUP.MDB, but has a date appended to it. I am sure there must be a simple way to achieve this, but I can't quite see what it is yet. As I said, I know this has been asked before, but searching the archives brings up hundreds of emails, and I can't see the one I want. I did try the WIKI pages, but I can't seem to navigate through that. If I try a search, I only get lost, as the "find page" seems less than useful. Any ideas? 73 de Phil GU0SUP |
Phil,
I use a similar technique, by sharing the folder across the network. I can use a copy of DXK on a separate machine, with the database specified on that mounted drive. I actually found it easier to remotely control the machine with DXK on it, and let it run locally. I use either VNC or Remote Desktop. In my case, I have a ¡°modern¡± and a ¡°vintage¡± side to the shack and log from either side. 73, Mark www.k4so.com www.picasaweb.com/kfourso kfourso.googlepages.com From: dxlab@... I have a master and several ¡°slave¡± computers. I created a .bat file (remember those?) called GO.BAT which contains the following commands:
xcopy "c:\program files\dxlab suite\dxkeeper\databases\k3ll.mdb" \\cliff2\shareddocs\dxl\*.* <file:///\\cliff2\shareddocs\dxl\*.*> /y /v pause This file runs on the master PC and copies to one of the slaves. I placed the file in my Startup folder so that it runs every time the PC is booted. Plus it provides a small measure of semi automatic backup. I also created short cut to the GO.BAT so that I can run it whenever I need to (like after working VK9XX!). On the slave computers I just do a recompute in SC and I am set. 73, Cliff K3LL From: dxlab@... [mailto:dxlab@...] On Behalf Of Mark C. Killmon Sent: Friday, December 04, 2009 5:59 AM To: dxlab@... You can specify a network Pathname in the "Log file" panel on the Config window's Log tab, e.g.

\\XYLs_PC\C\Interloper\DXLab\DXKeeper\Databases\AA6YQ.mdb Just be certain that a log file is never opened by more than one DXKeeper simultaneously. 73, Dave, AA6YQ -----Original Message-----
