I got the impression that this sounded like a computer issue, not an OpSys?issue. However, like many others who are working with Win 10 and DXLab I am looking at upgrading computers and systems to avoid the consequences of losing support.? (I lost a lot of my log with the end of XP due to a virus.)? So I am looking at moving to Win11 with my?DXLab intact.? Can you advise what we need to do or look out for in making that transition?but keeping our DXLab programs working correctly?? I know there are folks out there who have made the move to Win11 and have not reported any issues with DXLab operations.? I admit that this has got me concerned.? I'm not a computer guy (no pun intended) and would?really appreciate your comments and advice.
+ I cannot provide advice without turning this into a Windows Support Forum, but I can share my experience:

1. I have no experience upgrading a PC from Windows 10 to Windows 11, as my Windows 11 systems were pre-installed on new hardware. Since I first began using Windows in 1985, I have always upgraded to a new version by copying all critical files to external storage media, erasing the contents of the C: drive, installing the new version of Windows, and then restoring all critical files from that external storage and re-installing my applications. I don't know if Microsoft's "Windows version upgrade" mechanism has improved to the point where it is trustworthy, and thus I defer to those here with this experience. Step-by-step instructions for DXLab applications are here:

https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxlabwiki/MovingBetweenPCs

2. Windows 11 version 23H2 is stable. I have not encountered problems when running Adobe, DXLab, Google, or Microsoft applications on this version.
?
3. I have Windows 11 configured to inform me when a new Windows Update is available, but to not automatically download and install it; Perplexity can provide step-by-step instructions for doing this.

4. When I am informed that a new Windows Update is available, I direct Perplexity to report any adverse side effects that have been reported; until there are no relevant problems with an update, I hold off.

5. None of the Security Intelligence Updates for Microsoft Defender Antivirus that I have applied have caused trouble.

Perplexity is a free AI search engine that I have come to rely on for Windows management, and many other subjects, from home repairs to cosmology;? it cites its sources, which makes it easy to check the accuracy of its response and obtain additional information. I have no affiliation with the company.

Guy,

Get a new computer with Windows 11 if at all possible. I tend
to favor the Ryzen 7 based "NUC" designs these days and have not
had any issues with Windows 11 (on Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 based
Windows 11 systems since Windows 11 was released). The Ryzen 7
systems can be found with 32 GB RAM and 500 GB/1TB SSD for
less than $400 ... often as little as $300 (Amazon Prime).

Once you have a new Windows 11 system and are comfortable that
is is performing properly, then you can move DXLab Suite to the
new system following the instructions here:
<>

If you follow those instructions to the letter, you should be
able to pick up where you left off on the new computer. If
anything should fail, you would still have the old system to
fall back on.

?
Conclusion I think at this time with the plethora of issues with this operating system I am going to pay the, I hope, yearly fee for the Win10 support. I worked two weeks for nothing. I pulled the battery out of the Lap top and put it with the other dead computers. I can only hope the MS stabilizes this software or junks it like Win 8, but flogging a dead horse is a waste of time and has seriously impacted time on the air.?
?
I have also been told that a large number of hams are switching to Linux and abandoning MS.?
?
In conclusion I enjoy running DX Labs and have done so for 12 years. It is my sincere hope that MS stabilizes this software so that it is able to run DX Labs as well as my other Ham peripherals on a stable operating platform.
?
Thanks for the bandwith for my rant...I am out a grand and frustrated beyond belief.? BTW I am not feeling lucky.? ?Jim K5KND

? ? 73,

? ? ? ? ? ? Dave, AA6YQ

There have been several adverse reports regarding the reliability of Windows 11 version 24H2 (H2 2024 update), highlighting various issues that users and Microsoft have acknowledged. Below is a summary of the key reliability concerns:

### Major Issues Reported

1. **Blue Screens of Death (BSOD):**

? ?- Incompatibility with Intel Smart Sound Technology (Intel SST) drivers on 11th Gen Intel Core processors has caused BSODs.
? ?- PCs with certain Western Digital SSDs and Z890 motherboards (e.g., MSI, Asus) also encounter BSODs[1][3].

2. **Internet Connectivity Problems:**

? ?- Users report losing network connectivity due to invalid IP addresses, which cannot be resolved by updating drivers or resetting network settings. Using static IPs has worked as a workaround in some cases[1][3].

3. **Audio and Bluetooth Issues:**

? ?- Conflicts with audio devices and Bluetooth connections have been common, especially after the January 14 Patch Tuesday update. Devices with Dirac Audio technology are particularly affected[1][3].

4. **Printer Compatibility:**

? ?- ARM-based Copilot+ PCs face issues with printers from manufacturers like HP, Canon, and Brother, rendering them unusable after the update[1].

5. **Gaming and App Conflicts:**

? ?- Some modern games fail to work due to conflicts with Easy Anti-Cheat and AutoHDR features[1][5].
? ?- Citrix components and specific camera applications also face compatibility problems[1][3].

6. **Update Installation Failures:**

? ?- Certain ASUS devices fail to install the update, leading to blue screens during the process. Additionally, using media created with October or November 2024 updates can prevent future security updates from being installed[5].

### Microsoft's Response
Microsoft has released multiple patches to address these issues:
- Updates in late 2024 and early 2025 have resolved some bugs but introduced new ones.
- A compatibility hold has been placed on affected devices to prevent further issues during installation[1][3][5].

### User Feedback
While some users find Windows 11 stable overall, others report sluggish UI performance and unreliable taskbars in version 24H2, even on capable hardware[8]. Many recommend waiting for further fixes before adopting this update widely[2][6].

In conclusion, while Microsoft is actively addressing these problems, Windows 11 version 24H2 has faced significant reliability challenges that may impact its usability for certain users and configurations.

It is my recollection that Windows Restore was disabled in Win 11. I did find a way to enable it with a YouTube video. I did a search and there are many videos on the subject.

+ I don't mean to sound like an advertisement for Perplexity - it's free - but I find it far superior to YouTube videos. It will provide a step-by-step procedure with references that you can save in your Windows11_Procedures folder, like what's appended below.

73,

Dave, AA6YQ

Enabling System Restore on Windows 11 involves a few straightforward steps. Here's how you can do it:

## Steps to Enable System Restore

1. **Access System Properties**:
- Press `Win + X` and select **System** from the menu.
- Alternatively, right-click on **This PC** in File Explorer and select **Properties**.

2. **Open Advanced System Settings**:
- In the System window, click on **Advanced system settings** on the left sidebar or below "Device Specifications".

3. **Navigate to System Protection**:
- In the System Properties window, go to the **System Protection** tab.

4. **Select the System Drive**:
- Choose the drive where Windows is installed, usually labeled as **C:**.

5. **Configure System Restore**:
- Click the **Configure** button.
- In the next window, select **Turn on system protection**.
- Adjust the maximum disk space allocated for restore points using the slider. A common setting is around 20% of the drive space.

6. **Create a Restore Point (Optional)**:
- You can manually create a restore point by clicking the **Create** button in the System Properties window. This is a good practice before making significant changes to your system.

## Using System Restore

If you need to restore your system to a previous state, follow these steps:

1. **Open System Restore**:
- Use the keyboard shortcut `Win + R`, type `rstrui.exe`, and press Enter.
- Alternatively, go to **Control Panel** > **Recovery** > **Open System Restore**.

2. **Select a Restore Point**:
- Click **Next** to see a list of available restore points.
- Choose the restore point from a time when your system was running smoothly.

3. **Confirm and Restore**:
- Click **Next** and then **Finish** to confirm your selection.
- Your computer will restart and begin the restoration process.

System Restore is disabled by default on Windows 11, so it's essential to enable it to ensure you can recover from system issues by reverting to a previous stable state[1][2][6].

I am contemplating a transition from HRD to the DXLab platform.
?
I am wondering if there are available some command templates already made with Commander strings in order to control my Icom 718 and Yaesu FT 920.
+ Welcome to DXLab, Leo. Commander will control your IC-718 and FT-920 "out of the box"; all you need do is select the appropriate Radio Model COM port details. Take a look at this "Quick Start":

+ For additional information, see

+ and

+ To enable Commander to quickly switch between your two transceivers, see

+ When you got Commander tracking and controlling both transceivers, let me know and we'll discuss additional capabilities available with user-defined sequences and user-defined sliders - if that's more important to you than learning about capabilities of DXLab's other components.

Re: New user, 2nd attempt to set up, multiple QTHs but importing log with 1 QTH

I am following the guide provided previously:
+ This Article provides a better guide:

I have downloaded my existing L32 into 3 logs for my three callsigns.? I am ready to upload the logs into DXKeeper.? I have downloaded 3 files for each of my callsigns.? The first 2 should have no complications.
+ I assume that you mean that you exported 3 ADIF files, one for each of your Station Callsigns? If this is not correct, proceed no further and set me straight.

All my QSOs have been logged in L32 as one location.? Being able to assign various QTHs is one reason to switch to DXLab. DXing is the other main reason.
?
I am about to venture into the number 7 advice section.
?
I have 4 Station Locations in LotW.? These include my home QTH, 2 POTA locations and one California QSO Party location under my current NU6T callsign.? Each of these non-home QTH locatons are identified in the log as either POTA or CQP under a Contest ID column.
+ How can the 2 POTA locations be distinguished? By Station Callsign you used over the air? By date range?

+ I suggest the following steps:

1. On the "my QTHs" tab of DXKeeper Main window, define a myQTH for each of the four locations from which you have made QSOs. For each myQTH, all you need specify is a unique ID. You can populate the rest of each myQTH's items later.

2. On the "Import QSOs" tab of DXKeeper's Main window,
?
2a. In the Options panel, ncheck all of the boxes except "Record import errors in error file", which you should check

2b. In the "Duplicate checking" panel, uncheck all of the boxes unless there may be duplicate QSOs in the ADIF files; if that's the case, proceed no further, and let me know

2c. In the "Substitution options" panel, uncheck all of the boxes except "Substitute for missing myQTH IDs"; check the box, and set the selector to its right to the ID of the myQTH you created for the location from which most of the QSOs in the first ADIF file you'll be importing were made

2d. In the "Replacement Options" panel,

2d1. check the "Station Callsign" box, and fill the text box to the right with the callsign you used over the air during most of the QSOs in the first ADIF file you'll be importing were made

2d2. check the "Operator Callsign" box, and fill the text box to the right with the callsign you used over the air during most of the QSOs in the first ADIF file you'll be importing were made; a QSO's "Operator Callsign" is solely recorded for your benefit; no DXLab automation utilizes it.

2d3. check the "Owner Callsign" box, and fill the text box to the right with the callsign you used over the air during most of the QSOs in the first ADIF file you'll be importing were made; a QSO's "Owner Callsign" is solely recorded for your benefit; no DXLab automation utilizes it.

2e. Click the Start button, and select the first ADIF file

3. Did DXKeeper display an import errors? Using the Log Page Display on the "Log QSOs" tab of DXKeeper's Main window, were your QSOs correctly recovered, with all information important to you recovered?? Was the "Contest ID" item correctly set to indicate POTA or CQP? This article will help you do that:

You'll probably want to add columns to the Log Page Display, as described in this article:

4. If there were no errors, and if the imported QSOs look good, then proceed to import the next two ADIF files by repeating steps 2c and 2d1 with the "myQTH ID" and "Station Callsign" used in most of the QSOs in the ADIF file you're about to import.

5. When you reach this point, let me know and we'll proceed to update all of your QSOs to specify the correct "Station Callsign" and "myQTH ID".

New user, 2nd attempt to set up, multiple QTHs but importing log with 1 QTH

?
1)? I am wondering whether it is best to extract them from my current log before I upload to DXKeeper or to fix the QTH Locations later within DXKeeper?
?
2)? I am uncertain as to who should be named in the "Owner Callsign" box. I have connected all three callsigns in LotW under NU6T. Is there an advantage to naming NU6T as the owner of all three callsigns, or is it more useful to name each old callsign as the "Owner" of each old callsign?
?
I hope to upload to DXKeeper this week as time permits.
?
Thanks, Dave
