condradictions, for instance. Here is just one instance.

Hello jldunn8@...,
In reference to your comment: ¨¨ As far as I can find, there is no where in ACIM ¨¨ where it states that "Bodies sure as hell can? harm/hurt ¨¨ one another, and to deny it is inappropriate use of ¨¨ denial as the Course says about the ¨¨ body." We are dealing with level confusion. We know that there is no one out there .. but I know when I send out this email someone will read it and probably respond. One the ego level "Level 2" as Ken states all the time, bodies can hurt/bring pleasure, etc to other bodies On Level 1, yes, bodies do not exist ... nothingof form exists. But since we believe we are here .. do not be denial and say that your body or feelings cannot be hurt or feel pleasure. If that were the case, you would not need ACIM You would not be here.?? :-) Peace All ignorance is actually repression that |
Re: Thessalonius
Hey Gary (and Thomas, and everybody else too, for that matter...)
This thread has piqued my "SciFi/Time-Travel/Paradox" curiosity -- and I've always loved this area of speculation! How would this work out; if Arten (who seems to be from - to us - our future) was Thaddeus/Thessalonius (St. Jude) in the past (again, to our perception, but I won't keep repeating that explanation...); but now, in our present, he is presumably living a "human" life (let's call this version of him, "Thessa-2K"), and Gary was told he is supposed to know him... Would that mean that when Arten appeared to Gary here in our apparent space/time locus, Arten was here both as Arten ("ascended master visiting from our future") as well as Thessa-2K, contemporary human, but same "soul" (apparent human manifestation of the small-"s" self)... (?) {whoa... I need another cup of coffee...} Anyhow, this is probably a really good example of why words/symbols-of-symbols totally fail when it comes to expressing this stuff! But I think I pretty well get it in general, about all of this "time continuum" really having already happened, and all at once -- with no duration at all. And how our "real Self" (the capital-"S" self) -- who is really only One -- seems to be experiencing Itself (in a "dream") as all of our individualized human experiences; both past, present, and future. I am less clear, however, on how our "souls" fit into all this... and by "souls", I guess I mean the part of me that thinks "I'm Gene", and was the "same soul" who thought he was a sailor-man (perhaps a pirate..?) about two hundred years ago, and who thought he (she) was a cave-woman type, long before that.... Now I understand that ultimately, all "these lives" are really the dream experiences of one Self; but there seem to be "soul paths" that our individual concsiousnesses seem to follow "within" the overall dream; how "Arten used to be Thaddeus" two thousand years ago, and in "our present" he's Thessa-2K; and in what will be our "future", he will be Arten, and will become Enlightened.... How Gene used to be Cave Woman (I don't know what my name was, but I/she was quite the amazon, capable as any male, thank you -- and very much the provider for her family)... and then that same soul was at sea in the 18th century; and is now (as Gene) typing these words... and who knows, maybe this "lifetime" will be the "last", in human form.... So I've kinda drifted off (where are my nautical skills when I need them?)... however, I certainly want to hear what everybody thinks about all this. But my "original" question on this topic was; if Arten "came back" here to talk with Gary -- why did he not talk to himself (Thessa-2K) as well? I would think (and I know I'm probably misguided here) that if I achieved Enlightenment and "visited" a human in the past -- and if I knew a "former lifetime" of my own was walking around, also in need of illumination -- I think I'd really want to stop by and pass on a few words of wisdom to my poor former Me... (This is something I'd like to do right now; shoot back in time to my childhood, and tell Little Gene a few things that would make the next few decades a whole lot more pleasant for him......) If nothing else, we may come up with a great plot for next summer's big-budget sci-fi movie blockbuster!!! Gene |
Re: Thessalonius
I was getting Thessalonius mixed up with Thaddeus. I realized it as soon as I read your e-mail. I will do a search in Strong's Concordance and also Unger's Bible Dictionary. Say hi to mother of acim son for me. My understanding (which is not extrememly elevated in this particular instance) is that Thessalonius is another name for Thaddaeus (aka Arten.) So I answered with that understanding, which someone seemed to indicate to me in an e-mail was correct. As you may recall, I'm supposed to know Arten in this lifetime as well, so Linda was asking if I've figured out who that is yet. The answer so far is, dah... But I'm sure this will unfold as it should. Actually, as far as I know there isn't a heck of a lot written about Thaddaeus in the Bible either. I think one of the Gospels lists the twelve disciples and mentions him last. He's also known as Saint Judas of James and is now prayed to (only for the last few hundred years) as St. Jude, the Patron Saint of impossible or desperate causes. (Like me living in Hawaii.) I don't know if there's much more than that. Arten says he was quiet and a good learner. He also says a little more about him in "Disappearance," but I don't know if much else is known historically about this mysterious, happy learner. Love and peace, Gary. |

Officer: Don't have one? Older Woman: Lost it, 4 years ago ?for drunk driving. Officer: I see...Can I see your vehicle registration papers please. Older Woman: I can't do that. Officer: Why not? Older Woman: I stole this car. Officer: Stole it? Older Woman: Yes, and I killed and hacked up the owner. Officer: You what? Older Woman: His body parts are in plastic bags in the trunk if you want to see. The Officer looks at the woman and slowly backs away to his car and calls for back up. Within minutes 5 police cars circle the car. A senior officer ?slowly approaches the car, clasping his half! drawn gun. Officer 2: Ma'am, could you step out of your vehicle please! The woman steps out of her vehicle. Older woman: ?Is there a problem sir? Officer 2: One of my officers told me that you have stolen this car and murdered the owner. Older Woman: Murdered the owner? Officer 2: Yes, could you please open the trunk of your car, please. The woman opens the trunk, revealing nothing but an empty trunk. Officer 2: Is this your car, ma'am? Older Woman: Yes, here are the registration papers. The officer is quite stunned. Officer 2: One of my officers claims that you do not have a driving license. The woman digs into her handbag and pulls out a clutch purse and hands it to the officer. The officer examines the license. He looks quite puzzled. Officer 2: Thank you ma'am, one of my officers told me you didn't havea license, that you stole this ?car, and that you murdered and hacked up the owner. Maybe for Helen and Bill. And maybe for all of us.

Good grief Carrie, the whole Course is full of contradictions in form,
but not in the overall meaning.

You sure its not your fear that wants to believe that?

In truth we can't. Because in truth we are still as God created us. But
bodies sure as hell can harm/hurt one another. And to deny it is inappropriate
use of denial as the Course says about the body.

My book arrived today!
Thanks Gary.
I plan to read it just like any other book, not like I know the author or have read discussions about it. Don't know how long this will take, I seem to have gotten away from reading, which I used to do all the time. Either I'm getting old (and it's harder to see small print (LOL) or it's because of having a computer and now being on cyber time. Also, this morning I got stung by a bee, on my eyelid! I was outside and it just sort of came out of nowhere. I don't think I've gotten stung by a bee for over 10 years, I remember one time getting stung on the foot when I was outside watering the lawn in my barefeet. My eyelid swelled up, and my eye has been watering, and it hurt (of course) but I put alternate hot/cold cloths on it, and now have been forgetting about it and it seems to be okay. Just kind of annoying with one eye partially closed up. I try and see the lessons in everything and wonder what the lesson might be in this? Keep a closer watch out for where bee's nests might be? ~ Carrie |

Eric Butterworth's book
I mentioned in another post, and just looked up to get the exact name
and details. This is a report of his "passing" and something about him and his life. Our beloved minister/teacher and spiritual guide, Eric Butterworth, made a peaceful transition into the Flow of Eternal Life on Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, Connecticut. Eric was considered a legend and spiritual icon in the Unity movement. Charles Fillmore, grandson of the founder of Unity, has described him as "Unity's leading spokesman." We will never know the countless number of lives that have been changed by applying the Spiritual Principles taught by Eric Butterworth. The author of 16 best-selling books on metaphysical spirituality, a gifted theologian, philosopher, and lecturer, Eric was a highly respected New Age pioneer and innovator of New Thought, whose life was dedicated to helping people to help themselves. His teaching was focused on the Divinity of all people and his desire was that everyone would know their Oneness with God. He began his daily radio broadcasts, which at times went around the world, with the words: " You can change your life by altering your thoughts." A gentle voice with a powerful message, he inspired hundreds of thousands of people for over fifty years. His vital radio messages, most needed in our time, will continue. A scholar and educator, Eric established three powerful Unity ministries. The first was in Pittsburgh. He then moved to Detroit, where his teaching resulted in the building of the Detroit Unity Temple, the largest Unity church at that time, where more that 2,000 people attended his Sunday Services each week. While in Detroit, he authored his first book, Unity: A Quest for Truth. In 1961, Eric began his ministry in New York City. He lectured every Sunday at Carnegie Hall, then Town Hall, and since 1976, Avery Fisher Hall, where the weekly attendance grew to several thousand. In 1968, Eric wrote his first bestseller, Discover the Power Within You, which is considered a classic in the New Thought Spiritual Movement. His other popular books include Spiritual Economics, The Universe Is Calling, and Life Is for Loving. His latest book, The Creative Life: 7 Keys to Your Inner Genius, has received widespread recommendation and praise. Eric's books have been translated into several languages, and he has often been referred to as a "Twentieth Century Emerson." A visionary and an innovator, he originated the Spiritual Therapy Workshops, which he conducted for over 35 years. His devotees include people from all walks and stations of life, all of whom state that his teachings helped to change their lives. In the premier issue of "O" Magazine, Oprah Winfrey identified Discover the Power Within You as one of the books that changed her perspective on life and religion. It is on her list of "classics" that she will recommend in her new book club. Oprah states: "Eric Butterworth teaches that God isn't 'up there.' He exists inside each one of us, and it's up to us to seek the Divine within." Her favorite quote by Eric is: "The greatest mistake is believing that we are 'only human.' We are human by expression but Divine in creation and limitless in potentiality." Dr. Maya Angelou, beloved by millions, has stated of Eric: "He has been, is now, and shall forever be my teacher." The unique spiritual bond that existed between Eric and Maya is evident to all who know them. Noted composer, Marvin Hamlish, another admirer, said: "All who heard him were truly inspired. He led them home to themselves. Eric was a true prophet." Born in Winnipeg, Canada in 1916, Eric attended Fresno State University and Capital University in Ohio, where he studied music. He began training for the ministry at Unity Village in Missouri during WWII. He left to join the army and, as a lieutenant in the Medical Corps, trained medical personnel and also served as chaplain and counselor. After the war, he returned to his ministerial studies and graduated from Unity Ministerial School. Eric Butterworth was scheduled to deliver his much-anticipated Easter message at Avery Fisher Hall. The lecture he had written was delivered instead by Olga Butterworth, whose meditations have complimented Eric's Sunday messages since their marriage in 1972. In addition to Olga, Eric is survived by his sons, Tom of New Canaan, Connecticut; Alan of St. Louis; and Charles of Baltimore; and eight grandchildren. Gifts, specifically designated: "To the Memory of Eric Butterworth," may be sent to The Unity Center, Box 1501, Greenwich, CT 06836. Eric was 86 years old but was always fond of saying: "My age is none of my business." and "I am as old as God and as young as the morning." We say to him in love and gratitude: "Good morning, Eric! We bless you in this new beginning on your eternal journey in the Light of Love." The Unity Center of Practical Christianity 213 West 58th Street New York, NY 10019 unitycenter@...
