Status of the Heathkit shop
开云体育Mike,Much rather you take care of yourself and never open up the shop again rather than compromise your health by opening up too soon due to any internal/external pressure.? We'll all be here when you get back, unless one of us isn't as good of a bullet dodger as you are. 73 Eric W7EV On 3/31/2021 12:34 PM, mike bryce

For all those Drake collectors out there in radio land. A few weeks ago I temporarily shut down ‘The Heathkit Shop’ website’ cause I wasn’t feeling so hot. It will be back up sometime this year. I had hoped for sometime this summer. However, on Friday the 26th of March, my clock stopped. Taken to hospital and had my pipes cleaned and had the roto-rooter run though them. Apparently, I had (have) microvascular angina. I drove myself to the North Lawrence fired department where they took me to the hospital. One stint inserted, but the rest of the plumbing seems to be okay. More doctors to see, and I have enough pills to start my own drug store now I’m still kicking, just not a high as I was I could have went sideways. With a bit of luck, I’ll have the Heathkit Shop up and running later this year 73 Mike, WB8VGE |
Mike, I'm glad you caught it in time. I had a similar thing happen in 2007 and it scared the crap out of me. Two stents and apparently, they're still doing the job. Most of the pills will likely stay with you but doses will be changed and some will go away.

If Mike had angioplasty he will be whole almost right away. In a strict sense it is not surgery, they do not open you up.? The stents are applied through an artery, usually in an arm or leg. The arteries of the heart are stretched with a sort of balloon and the stent is installed. The stent is a sort of plastic window screen like tube that holds the artery open and allows normal blood flow in the heart. They want to watch you for a few days but after that you have a normal life with a great deal more energy than before the procedure. It is modern magic. The drugs I was given were a powerful blood thinner that also makes the corpuscles slippery. It is to prevent clots. I was also put on a statin, that is something to control cholesterol and prevent further clogging of the arteries. The thinner can be a bit of a bother but there is usually not much side effect from either. Mike may also be getting a blood pressure medication and will be taking a small amount of aspirin, which is an adjunct to the blood thinner.

?? I am going into some detail because others in this list are probably candidates. It is nothing to be afraid of and far easier than heart surgery. ?? If you have any sort of heart pain, or anything that could imaginably be heart pain get checked out. You need see a good cardiologist. They may want to do a stress test, which is simply putting you on a treadmill while connected to an electrocardiogram machine. They will want to do an echocardiogram, which is done with an ultrasonic probe and doesn't hurt at all. This will tell them the condition of your heart. Unless you have something unusual an angioplaty may be all that is required and will both stop any angina (heart pain) and extend your life many years. ?? Lots of people never even heard of angioplasty even though its now fairly common. A Google search will find lots of authentic information about them. ?? I am harping on this because mine saved my life and perhaps letting others know may save theirs too. On 3/31/2021 7:57 PM, Ham Radio wrote:

Indeed. I was taking walks two days later.? I was on Plavix for a year and then they took me off it (it was affecting my stomach). My statin dosage was eventually halved.? 73, Steve Wedge, W1ES/4 Time flies like an arrow.? Fruit flies like a banana. I agree with Richard. I had triple bypass over 20 years ago. The recovery wasn't pleasant and takes longer than angioplasty, but it certainly made a difference in how I felt within just a couple of weeks.

Mike, I went through the similar with 1 stent in 2006. Glad you caught it. Prayers your way. Listen to the Doc's and you'll be around a lot longer. Jim - WB6TNF

Hi Mike Glad that you got this taken care of relatively early (one stint is not so bad). Its amazing what they can do these days with the "drive through" theory of modern medicine.
