R4C Notch filter

Folks,

Is there a way to get any more adjacent signal rejection from the standard notch dial on a Drake R4C?

Bill, the notch, when adjusted properly has pretty good rejection ¡ª something like 40 dB or more.?

You may need to do an adjustment per the manual. I¡¯m trying to remember if the C still has the pot on the right side (and of course, I¡¯m riding in a car at the moment).?

One thing with a notch, however, is that it notches more or less a single frequency. It will not notch out a range of frequencies. It¡¯s meant to remove an AM carrier or CW signal.?

Sometimes, it will work well enough to make the desired signal easier to copy. I¡¯ve used the notch in that way lots of times.?

If you¡¯re doing a lot of SSB, you may want to find a 1.5 filter. They¡¯re not as common as the 500¡¯s but they are around. eBay is one place and ke9PQ (Nationwide) is another. You¡¯ll pay more from the latter source but parts there have been tested.?
