Just finished the AC4 Harbach power supply update and wanted to pass on my comments.
The kit arrived in a small box and included two assembled boards and a small bag of parts and hardware. The assembly went great with instructions available at the Harbach site. The instructions are basically Heathkit style and if you can follow directions, can solder, and have the rudimentary tools needed then you are good to go. I did most of the assembly in one night, but had to wait for the power cord gland I had ordered. The gland method of power cord restraint works very well. The only problem was the cover lip at that location was too long because the new gland was larger than the original wire strain relief. I just broke off the lip, which meant that the screw position could not be used. The bottom cover has many screws, and one missing is no big deal. I have not updated any other Drake supplies or used other products so I can only speak for this design and if I had it to do over again, I would not hesitate using this one.

Doug,
Thanks for posting. I just ordered my kit and will give it a go. Can you repost the gland, so I can order one similar to yours?
My PS-4 is working just fine, but given its age, I think I want to tackle it now rather than wait for a catastrophic failure.

Gregg,
? Look through these messages and you will see the Mouser part, but also check out the other cheaper part mentioned further down. I ordered the Mouser part before I saw the later message. The Mouser part works with standard computer style 3 wire cables, but not the extra heavy ones. They are a dime a dozen. I just cut off the end that goes to the device and use the pug and cable.

I'll second Doug's experience.
I used the same kit on a rebuild I did about 6 months ago.?
Modification / modernization came out fine as did Doug's.?
Instructions were clear.?

Doug, How long did it take for you to receive the kit after placing the order?

t took about 5¨C7 days as I remember. I usually always specify the cheapest shipping method unless I am in a hurry. In this case, it was first class mail. I am near Philadelphia. ? Doug, WA3DSP

That's nice.? I am debating now to restore my HP-23B for my HW-101.? I imagine that PS can power these old gals too.

Chris, before getting into tha project too deeply,?check what the plate voltage is for the Heathkit supply. I¡¯m not familiar with the specific numbers but many of the heathkits have 6146 finals, which use higher voltages than the Drake sweep tube finals.?

The plate voltage in that era Heath is somewhere on the order of 800V if I remember correctly, so you're right Steve

I successfully adapted an HP-23 to power my Collins KWM-2. The "low" B+ had two taps - one way too high, the other too low. So I put in a linear regulator. First a big long diode string to get the voltage into the ballpark, then a simple series regulator with a high voltage transistor.

There are but the first thing to check are the voltages provided.? Heathkits were mostly 6146 finals, which have 800V nominal plate supplies.
