Birdies on Drake 2-B?
Are there known birdies on the 2-B? I have them on mine (one really significant one) and wondered if that was expected. I doubt it's normal but thought I'd ask. Thanks, Barry - N4BUQ

I had one of those about 12 years ago. I should've kept it. Thanks, Barry - N4BUQ

Re: 2-B 50kHz Alignment Question
The Drake 50 KHz IF is the only reason I keep my venerable HP-606A around. Not often used but rock-steady and reliable the rare times I need it. Dan WB4 GRA

Re: 2-B 50kHz Alignment Question
Now that I think about it, I should have rewritten the FS-4A code to generate the alignment signals. Easy enough and I may still do that. Thanks, Barry - N4BUQ

Re: 2-B 50kHz Alignment Question
Apparently this was in my setup. I was using an HP-8640B signal generator with an HP-11710B down converter to get me to 50kHz. That was somewhat "touchy" so I switched to my HP-3310B function

Re: Drake 2-B Tuning Shaft Bent???
*** I would use the live center and a steady rest. Put the steady rest right next to the short area to be turned down. As for the driven end, I'd just chuck it in my self-centering 3-jaw chuck - it

Re: Drake 2-B Tuning Shaft Bent???
Back in the day when I worked in the toolroom, if I were to turn that part, I would want to do it on a lathe with a good collet chuck, a center-drilled hole in the end of the shaft, and a live center

Re: Drake 2-B Tuning Shaft Bent???
If you bought a lathe, it would be a good beginner project. A cheap Sieg lathe would do fine. Harbor freight sells 'em. Back in the 80's, I broke my beloved Mini-Quad. Needed a special brass ring.

Re: Drake 2-B Tuning Shaft Bent???
You know, the shaft itself is common enough 1/4"/.250 stock. The machined waist around which the dial string is wrapped, is turned down to ~.11 inch. Seems I could remove my current shaft and take it

Re: 2B S meter
I would think an external magnet would affect the accuracy of the meter since it changes the field that the coil is working against.

Re: Drake 2-B Tuning Shaft Bent???
I have two good 2B's and a parts unit. Only the parts unit is bent but that was the result of being dropped hard (which is why it's for parts). If the shaft was hardened it would probably shatter or

Re: Drake 2-B Tuning Shaft Bent???
Seems like a part that might be made on a small engine lathe. Not sure if that shaft is hardened and/or ground but maybe not. Thanks, Barry - N4BUQ
