Not with a 4-position switch.? The 2-A did not have a concentric switch for selecting bandwidth.
I will still guess that this was done by the factory using an R-4 BPF assembly.? It is likely to have been an employee's receiver.? For a while (and I foolishly sold it to make more space) I had a TR-3 that was converted as much as possible to be a TR-4.? Holes were punched for the new tubes for the sidetone, etc, the front panel was changed, the wiring updated using the same wire as factory for the relative power out circuit, finals changed to 6JB6's, just everything that was needed to make it a TR-4 -- EXCEPT that it still had the 6AU6 PTO and the "soup can" filters.? It was a great-sounding rig with that soft filtering.? In my examination of it, it was either done at the factory or an extremely-skilled ham did all of those changes, using the same wire, Greenlee punches, etc., which back in the day were pretty expensive.
Your set is quite interesting.? I'd be interested in seeing photos of the areas around the BPF.

So what does it look like under the chassis, just behind the passband tuning knob? Could you send a photo of that view? 2-B serial numbers went up to the 12XXX range so this isn't a late model.

Considering the serial numbers at WB4HFN seem to indicate this radio is low in the order, maybe it is a homebrew experiment with a PBT from the R-4 series?
