Green is usually glass-epoxy, which is a better substrate.

Re: T4XB Major Bummer

Gary,
?Yes sir that's the right wafer section believe it or not I was able to remove mine without removing the front panel, but that may change putting things back together.
Gary my address is good on QRZ I also sent an email to you via this group

Thank You, Sir!?

Re: T4XB Major Bummer

Front panel removal is pretty easy. ?Because you¡¯re replacing the last wafer, you¡¯re fortunate. It¡¯ll be plenty of work to actually replace the wafer, though.?

TR7 Extender Boards for sale. And a bad DR7 board, maybe.

I was cleaning out my shack and found my set that I bought about 10? years back. Don't recall ever using them.?

I also found a DR7 Board that I blew up and replaced with a new one. Not sure if that is worth anything, but Jim Shorney told me to save it a few years ago. Hi hi. I fried it by leaving the top cover of the TR7 off and keying another radio that was hooked up to a attic antenna directly above.? At least that is what I remember at the time. Maybe a clue as to what may be the issue.

Offers anyone? I'm too tired to google. :-) I may still sell my TR7 also.?

Re: T4XB Major Bummer

Getting back to the original topic..
Dave,
I pulled the last section out of my late T-4X.? Does this look like what you need?? Don't worry about the black tarnish, it conducts great I am told.
Wow, it was hard to get it out, to put it back in is going to be a job for you.
As you can see in the photo, I had to pull the front panel to remove the nut holding the switch so I could get a screwdriver and nutdriver in to take the
wafer off.? Before that I had to remove the crystal switch and shaft.
If that is the switch you need, give me your address and I'll send it down.

Or an HC-6 can of any frequency that I can take apart and marry a 24.5 MHz HC-49 XTAL to it.
Maybe someone may have a different idea?

Re: Conductive adhesives

What the PROM does is it "monitors" the N-Code fed to the Translator board from the DR7 for two purposes. The first is to disable the action of the Up or Down button when your reach the edge of a band switch segment. This keeps you within the limits of the high pass and low pass filter sections of the band switch. The second is to keep your from transmitting outside of a ham band. It is pretty clever really. The address lines of the PROM follow the N-Code and the contents of the PROM memory at any given address will either enable or disable the buttons as needed and also operate Q9001 to inhibit transmit in 500 KHz segments that do not contain a ham band.

The radio will work perfectly well with the PROM removed entirely but you would need to be mindful of the filter edges. Worst case, you could smoke a low pass section by transmitting above it's cutoff frequency or transmit unwanted harmonics.

A known failure mode of these PROMS is one of the address lines going shorted which disrupts the N-Codes. This may be from careless handling causing ESD damage as the PROM inputs are tied directly to the male Molex pins on the bottom of the board.

PROMs are available if you need one.

Re: TR-4C Weird Front-End Tuning

I am going to be looking into this, as I have a TR-4Cw RIT that is also doing some squirrely things on 20m.? I can get it to go into what I believe are oscillations on 20m when I adjust the driver, so the first place I'll look will be at the driver circuit.? I also seem to have low output but that may be bad finals.? All will be revealed, once I finish redoing half of my operating position.

Hello Everyone.? I am in the last steps in restoring a TR-4C.? I have found that on 20 meters, at 14.250 MHz, when peaking the Rf tune, I can get somewhat better stronger signals.?
