Don't give up on the xtal just yet.? BAKE IT in an oven at close to 375 deg F?( and NO HIGHER) for 1-2 hours, cool it and try it again.? You may find it will work fine, and you've got nothing to lose!? Many of us here have revived "dead" or off frequency xtals that way over the?years.? Doesn't alway work....but worth a try.

i don't know if mine are OEM, but the measure 4 and 1/8 inches long. The Board that is, and from the tip of the pins to the tip of the socket is 4 and 13/16 inches.? Hope this helps.

Re: TR7 Extender Boards for sale. And a bad DR7 board, maybe.

Bob,

The DR7 Board has been sitting in storage for almost 10 years if not longer. I don't recall the actual problem. If I decide to take the existing one out and clean the contacts again! For probably the 5th time. I will try inserting the defective one. No guarantee. My dexterity is gone and that is why I am considering selling the entire TR7.

John, sorry it took so long to reply. Busy weekend. The extender boards are sold already. Thanks for the interest. And they were not the OEM.

THANKS

L-7 Internal Low Pass Set? #ForSale

I discovered what I think is an extra low pass circuit from an L-7 I owned years ago. Hopefully someone can use it.

Re: Drake 2C on 28.0 to 28.5 MHz

Be very careful of temperature of a stove, especially an electric. Things get way too hot in way too short a period of time! Don't ask how I know.

Well...I have a small metal Vise out in my garage.
With that and my 100W soldering iron, it should be a piece of cake, Thanks.

If the knob isn¡¯t split, try tapping for a larger setscrew.?

The shaft does have a flat spot on it and there is a bushing inside the

Unfortunately the set screw hole does seem to be stripped and will not

I cannot tune in the SSB signals, the mode control just spins around and has no effect.

This is the first time I have tried to listen to SSB so this is new to me.

Looking at the schematic before I open it up it looks like the mode switch should have a few positions to it and not just spin around.

Am I correct?

Cleaning crystals.

I was enjoying some casual time with putting my Collins receiver back together and decided to try getting the crystals better looking than the greenish-brown that they were. I¡¯ve seen Drake crystals that sometimes look this bad and decided to try an old standby: Bar Keeper¡¯s Friend.?

It took very little effort to make these crystals look like they did in 1964.?

Bonus: BKF seems to help with old, dull knobs, too. I¡¯ve been using a handi-wipe but could see getting this loaded into a Dremel buffing pad.?

Put the leads in a Panavise with heat-resistant jaws and the can should come off with a little heat and a grab with needle-nose pliers.?

Rick, if you use your big 140 Watt Weller soldering gun and take your time, you can un-solder the can from an HC-6 crystal and slide it off.? Swap out the crystal inside, then solder the can back on.

What I was thinking was to cut the top of a HC-6 off and solder a 24.5 Mhz HC-49 to its pins.

Don't know if that is doable tho'
